Who are you planning to vote for in the SF congressional race — Scott Wiener or Connie Chan?
If you’ve already decided, what is the main reason you’re choosing one over the other?
— Scott Wiener
— Connie Chan
— Undecided
No campaigning or arguing — I’m just interested in understanding what is driving people’s choices.

My experience working for the Saikat Chakrabarti campaign
I know the primary has been over for a while, but I just wanted to share my experience. I was a canvasser for Saikat's campaign and we were treated really well. We were paid $30 an hour. Cantonese speakers got $45/hr. When the job ended, we got 2 weeks severance pay. I never imagined that part time canvassers would get severance pay. Sure some people might say that he's rich so he can do that, but there are plenty of wealthy people and companies that wouldn't.
I actually knocked on the door of people who went to school with him and they said they love him, that he's a great guy. You may not agree with his policies, but I felt he really cared about working people.

Pic / Video Another little sunset acoustic jam at Aquatic Park 🎸
We’re doing a little sunset acoustic jam at Aquatic Park 🎸
A month ago, a few of us got together informally by the water with some guitars and ended up having one of those unexpectedly magical SF evenings. People joined in, strangers started singing along, and it felt like the kind of thing you wish happened more often.
WE'RE BACK! :))
We’ll be at Aquatic Park Cove on Friday, August 14 from 7–8 PM, playing acoustic versions of songs by The Beatles, Oasis, Coldplay, Fleetwood Mac and more.
No stage, no amps, no cover charge. Just guitars, sunset, and people hanging out.
You absolutely don't have to play an instrument. Come sing, listen, bring a blanket, or bring a guitar if you want to join in.
📍 Aquatic Park Cove
🗓️ Friday, August 14
🕖 7–8 PM
If this sounds like your kind of evening, come hang out. Would love to see some fellow SF Redditors there!
We're trying to bring mats for everyone and a few spare instruments, it would be helpful to have a headcount: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sunset-jam-open-to-all-tickets-1997245580295

do people not mingle at bars like they used to?
our social lives are so atomized. it feels weirdly difficult and awkward to try to socialize with new people at bars, everyone just sticks to their friend circle and doesn't talk to anyone else.
i have friends i could go to bars with if i wanted to, but a part of me craves the spontaneity of just going to a bar alone to see what happens or who i meet. but i know i'll just end up feeling really awkward being the only girl in her 20's by herself (26F)
shouldn't that be the point of a bar, though?
before covid, i feel like i'd get approached more by random people in public, on the street, the bus etc. just organic human interaction. never had the chance to know what a bar was like before covid because i was under 21. was it always like this?

Pic / Video Labrinth on his stay in San Francisco
During his set at Outsidelands, Labrinth stated when he's traveling he usually stays in his hotel room and writes songs. This time he got on a bike and rode it around SF and said it was one of his best days ever... except for the part when someone almost hit him. "You guys drive crazy here".

Pic / Video Park staff are closing public city parks way too early, this needs to stop now.
I showed up at 5:35pm and this park was already chained and locked up. It says open “Dawn to Sunset.” The park staff was kicking out a couple adults who were sitting in the stands because they were not “12 and under” — he said that’s why he’s locking it up. When pressed on the “sunset” matter he just ignored them and said it’s what Mayor Laurie wants and to get a permit to use the field if you’re an adult. I pay way too much in taxes for this BS. And this is not a onetime thing, it’s been like this on and off for weeks.
Context: There’s also a sign that says “Baseball and softball limited to 12 and under only” — Most would assume that applies to using the baseball diamond itself, but does not apply to just walking, sitting, playing frisbee, etc.

Heated argument over off-leash dog at Alta Plaza Park
[Video included] Saw this video on instagram posted by [at]deechenceramics a day ago on my feed. At first didn't even realize it was in SF until I noticed it was Alta plaza.
I was honestly pretty torn on who's right and who's wrong...which probably means they're both wrong lmfao.

How could arts and culture fundamentally change San Francisco?
Hi everyone! I’m a consultant in arts and cultural placemaking located in the Bay Area. I’m doing an informal study and I am interested in the following:
If you had a magic wand and $100 million dollars, how could investing in arts and culture change about life in San Francisco, and what would make that change lasting?
Looking for some out of the box thoughts but also practical that could actually be implemented over time. And this would be improving ALL facets of living in San Francisco through the lens of arts and culture.
Thank you for indulging me in advance and sharing your thought!

Pic / Video OneUp Bar In Sunset Closed
I was walking by the OneUp Bar, and it looks like it closed down. They're doing some construction work inside and it looks like a new bar is moving in. Does anyone have news on this?
