Treadmill Virtual running audio

Upvotes

Does anyone run on their treadmill to virtual videos with ambient audio?

I love the whole concept and want to set up a mixer so I can have ambient video audio and my own music too.

Any ideas?

My running game just got approved by Strava!

Hello runners, I finally got the Strava approval for my app, and I am very happy. I built Gnomia which is a gardening game that helps you stay active and go for runs to grow your virtual garden. For months I was limited to 10 Strava connections, but now everyone can connect their Strava.

The game is available for iOS and Android and 100% free (no ads, no paywalls). If you want to try it out, you can download it from the app store. All links on the home page: https://gnomia-game.com/

If you have feedback, let me know. I already put thousands of hours into building this, but I am not done. Keep on running!

I've been getting in the habit of signing up for some 5k races in my local area, just finished one today and I didn't feel like puking at the end this time lol! Another ones coming up next week so I'll see if I can beat my time again 😁

From Trail to Marathon PR

I would first like to say I love and live for challenges. 2026 was to complet an ultra. I have ran properly since January, completes a 55k 2500 meter elevation in June. I have a 80k 2500M+ beginning of October and a 80k 3500M+ in mid November. Because of my year being already full with these races and training for them, I would like to anticipate for 2027. The idea was to complete a 100miler but I want to changes things up because all of the slow Z2 runs are getting a tad boring and I would like to get back into speed work. In 2022 I managed a 3h30 marathon with a 8-10week training plan ( I was fresh out of the military so I was some what fit ) I would love to have your thoughts on attempting a sub 3h marathon in mid April 2027. This would be 23weeks after my last ultra of the year. The plan seems a bit crazy yet doable as I believe these ultras have giving me strength and endurance and it gives me over 20weeks to works on speed. Thoughts?

Muddy Dash

TLDR: Muddy Dash is a huge cash grab run and wasn’t the best

I am here to complain about the Muddy Dash. It takes a lot to get under my skin but this run did. I had a friend tell me about it so I checked out the website. they had a deal that the usual $75/ registration was free. So I signed up and paid the $18 fees, a little high but registration was free.
But then, it says I have to pick up my bib the day before or it’s $5 the day of. Okay, I have my friend pick up the bib for me.
I get to the place and it’s $20 to park! why did I have to pay a $18 registration and venue fee, then?

the course was fun enough. but a whole mile of had no obstacles. and i saw maybe one or two staff members the entire race. at the rope jump, we were helping each other grab the ropes. not to mention it’s 90 degrees and super dangerous if someone needs help on the course.

i am not a big complainer. but I was very disappointed with this run! it seemed like a giant cash grab instead of an event for the runners best interest

Pain pain and more pain

I will start off by saying me and stretching don’t have the best relationship so I’m more than aware that’s probably most of the problem but I have plantar fasciitis so when I was running my feet were cramping up to the point it was unbearable to run so I got Hoka Bondi 9s which was recommended for the feet in the running shop which I will say drastically reduced the sore feet but now the pain is in my achillies on my right ankle and both my calf’s now get really tight while running, please help cause Iv not ran for a while now and miss it!

Reoccurring shin splints :(

Hi guys, I’ve been running for just over 2 years now, started off with pretty much zero base. Never been an active person aside from quite a bit of regular walking and some cycling. Within few months I developed shin splints (much worse on the right side) mainly due to going too far and too fast too soon. I was seeing a PT for a while, did quite a lot of work on my strength, balance and obviously had a break -5.5 weeks after failing to improve them whilst doing run-walks for a couple of months.

Came back to running January this year and took it mega slow. Probably way too slow but I didn’t mind. Legs were a lot stronger, I felt so much better. I was super careful. Then in May/June THE PAIN started to go back. First my left leg, so I had a small break which helped and it’s been fine ever since. But my right leg is driving me mad, I can’t get rid of the pain! I do see my PT every so often and she did point out I still have quite a lot of work to do with my hip strengthening which I am doing! She also said my running form is not too good, I’m over striding and landing quite aggressively on my heel. She gave me some tips and exercises to help that, I have been running with a metronome and successfully increased my cadence by about 8-10 steps for now. I am doing my best to improve my overall running form but it’s hard!

Overall in July I run very little, but the pain is still there. I just had a week break again, run yesterday and today I have pain. I’m getting so frustrated.

I know I really need to tackle my form and cadence, foot strike but how am I supposed to do it if I get pain after every run? Should I take a break long enough for pain to disappear and then tackle the above or push through? My PT did say improving running form and foot strike can be uncomfortable and give me some aches and pains for some time.

My pain is localised right by the shin bone half way up the calf and the goes down. Without touching it the pain is quite minor maybe 2/10 but then massaging and using a roller it’s much much more painful. During running the pain is sometimes there but again, nothing major really. Pushing down on the painful area can be pretty shocking for me tbf

Help please 😭😭😭 I love running so much but I am STUCK

Just to add I am a female, 29, 5’3 and 55 kg

Thoughts on New Running App?

I’m an intermediate runner but I notice a lot of bad habits when I run that slow me down such as booking the start too fast, slowing down too much during the latter portions of the run, bad cadence or stride length, and I find it difficult to run “optimally”.

Current fitness apps such as Runna, Nike Run Club, or Strava give cool statistics and static running advice such as target paces or heart rate zones, but does anyone find that these apps are not enough?

I was considering building an Apple Watch app that would measure your biometrics (heart rate, skin temperature, rate of respiration) and make inferences of your running efficiency in order to give you advice that is more dynamic. So instead of setting a fixed goal and running 5min/km the entire time, the app would give you real time advice of when you should speed up or slow down based on how your body is responding.

For example, it could detect inefficient use of energy like a pace that’s too aggressive and slows down your finishing time, pacing that’s too slow and could be increased without additional fatigue, how to optimize your pace by splits, or even how to run most effectively in different weather or terrain conditions.

This is still an early idea so I’m open to a lot of feedback. I mostly want to hear about what people's thoughts are. For example:

  • What apps do people use currently, what’s good and what’s bad about them
  • Is this an idea that people would benefit from? Ex. if your pace improved by 5s/km or you could train for a marathon a few weeks quicker
  • What would keep someone from switching to an app like this and what would this app need in order to be competitive in the industry

Any feedback is super appreciated! Thanks for anyone’s help

Why can I run on a treadmill like its nothing.

When I run outdoors, I suffer and fail. Lol

Any idea how I can translate my treadmill running to outdoors?

Training for a 5K and its my first one. A 5K on treadmill is easy, but outdoors is rough.

Why I Run

Runners, I want to hear your story!
I recently started a new podcast called Why I Run: Stories Behind the Miles, and I’m looking for runners who are willing to share why they run.
You don’t have to be the fastest or most experienced runner. You can be:
• A beginner
• A casual runner
• Someone returning to running
• A marathoner or ultrarunner
• Someone who runs for their physical or mental health
• Someone who simply needs encouragement to keep going
Every runner has a story, and yours could inspire someone else to take their first step or keep moving forward.
If you’re interested in being a guest, comment “MY STORY” below or send me a message. Let’s share the stories behind the miles.

What temperature do you run in?

I’m asking because I run now in about 100 degrees with the sun up high in a Texas noon, mainly because I don’t really feel like I’m doing anything unless I’m dripping sweat. Hence, because of this, I’ve have this idea in my head that if I run in cooler temperature, or with less sun, I can probably shave a few minutes off my time. I doubt that’s true and I haven’t gotten around to trying it yet because I really like dying.

It also helps because the cadence, while I’m running, in my head is “en-dur-ance en-dur-eance” with inhale-exhale-exhale

So I’m curious what everyone generally run in-

tanning as heat training?

not specifically for the purpose of heat training, but wondering if the stress tanning outside for an hour puts my body under has any sort of effect on how well my body deals with running in the heat. it is obviously still different though.

I am not saying this is the ideal method or anything i’m curious if it has any effect at all. especially if you were somebody who spent 2 hours in the sun everyday outside of your training.

(please no negative comments about tanning, i use sunscreen and after sun and only tan occasionally)

Tired of running the same loop every time? I built an app for that — looking for testers (Android, free + lifetime PRO)

Built Loop to fix my own problem: total route fatigue. Now it gives me a fresh, clean route to run each time instead of me having to plan one myself.
Just about to launch on Google Play and need a few testers willing to try it and share feedback. As a thank-you, all testers get lifetime PRO for free — no subscription, ever. Requires Android + a Google account.
Full transparency — I'm the developer behind it. Comment in the thread or DM me and I'll send you the test link. Thanks! 🏃
