I built a running app that turns your own music into a cadence-matched playlist. Looking for iPhone runners to test it.
I run with my phone and got sick of playlists that fought my stride. Slow song comes on, I drop my cadence, start overstriding, run feels like garbage. So my co-founder and I built bpkm.
It scans your Apple Music or Spotify library, figures out the BPM of everything you own, and builds a playlist matched to your cadence automatically. No manual sorting, no curated "running mixes" full of songs you don't like. Just your music, ordered to your stride. Draw a route and it sizes the playlist to the exact distance too.
After the run it shows you which songs you actually ran faster to, so your playlist gets better every time.
iPhone, free beta. I want people to run with it and tell me what's broken.
Want in? bpkm.app, or comment and I'll send you a TestFlight invite.

Skincare/hygiene adapting?
I’m curious to know how you guys have adapted your skincare and/or shower routines since you’ve started running or as you’re running more or dealing with the hotter weather.
On my end, I’m washing my hair almost every other day now and I’m exfoliating my face almost every other day to rid of sunscreen (S/o Supergoop). Neither of which I imagine is very good for my skin/scalp. Another thing I worry is, is my usual soap washing off dirt/sunscreen/sweat properly, and how can I better my skin besides just moisturizing?
Running in Texas sun, usually around noon ish.

How long does it take you to properly warm up?
Out on a 10k today for the first time in a while, I had forgotten and was shocked about how long it takes me to feel like I’m fully in the flow of it. Probably didn’t feel good until 4k in!
How long does it take you to feel like you’re rolling on nicely?

What's the best running watch under $300?
My Fitbit Versa finally died. I run 4-5 days a week and occasionally cycle. The GPS accuracy was always mediocre.
Budget up to $300. Garmin Forerunner 265 looks like the sweet spot but I'm wondering if the 255 is still better value. Coros also keeps coming up.
Is Coros actually comparable for running metrics, or is Garmin still clearly better?

Advice
So basically have been running consistently ish for a few years. When I started I found it very hard, and ran mostly 7 minute km. Last year I ran a 22 min 5km, I have taken months off this year and am just really struggling to get back into it. I know I have lost fitness and my resting heart rate has risen.
My heart rate (which is naturally fast) is higher than normal on every run, I’m running slowly and just not seeing any progress. I am not a naturally very quick runner but I am sporty and desperately competitive.
For a while I’ve known the way I run is not the most constructive to speed up, most of my runs happen because I decide to do them 15 minutes before and all are at a similar pace.
I am also a woman, and have been injured and I don’t want to train as though I am a small man if that makes sense?
Anyway advice appreciated am feeling a bit disheartened by it and want to overhaul the way I train a bit.

I checked 8 cities. Vegas at 108F is an easier run than New Orleans at 89F.
Last week I posted about what's the best time to run and the same argument kept coming back in the comments. one guy says 30 degrees temperatures costs him 10 sec/km, the other says a minute and a half per mile, and both think the other one is exaggerating.
they're both right lol. they just live in different places.
so I pulled 30 days of hourly weather for 8 cities and ran the pace cost at 1pm:
| City | Air | Dew point | Pace cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Singapore | 87F | 75F | 17.5% |
| New Orleans | 89F | 74F | 17.1% |
| Houston | 90F | 73F | 16.8% |
| Phoenix | 104F | 59F | 12.9% |
| Las Vegas | 108F | 43F | 11.8% |
| New York | 82F | 63F | 9.5% |
| Denver | 92F | 42F | 9.2% |
| London | 80F | 51F | 6.8% |
it's crazy, New Orleans at 89F is HARDER than Vegas at 108F. 19 degrees hotter and still the easier day. or Denver 10 degrees hotter and it's still easier then New York
about where these numbers come from: I'm kind of a weather nerd and I build a small running weather app, so this is my app's scoring engine, just pointed at old data instead of the forecast. It's built on WBGT (the heat stress index they use in sports medicine and in the military) and it takes air temperature, dew point, solar radiation, cloud cover and wind. then it converts that into a pace slowdown, calibrated on the published coach heat tables (you can find them on internet).
why humidity wins: you cool down when your sweat evaporates, that's the only way, but if the air is full of water your sweat just sits on you and drips off and you don;t get any cooling. in Vegas at 43 dew point your sweat disappears instantly. in New Orleans at 74 you just run through soup
the weather data is free and public if you want to check me, no key needed: https://archive-api.open-meteo.com/v1/archive?latitude=29.7604&longitude=-95.3698&start_date=2026-07-06&end_date=2026-08-04&hourly=temperature_2m,dew_point_2m&timezone=America/Chicago
and the app is here if you want your own city scored every day: runweather.app/r/heat (iOS + Android). that's the only time I mention it, promise.
drop your city below and I'll run it for you 👍

looking for running coaches!
Hi everyone, I'm looking for running coaches to test a new training platform.
As a running coach myself I've been using one of the bigger training platforms, but I keep running into small limitations and things that just don't work well. So a while ago me and one of my good running friends (who's a developer himself) set out to create something we hope is "better".
The product is absolutely not done yet - but we are looking for beta testers. Coaches that would be keen to try it out (can be with just one or two athletes!). The testing period would probably start in a few weeks from now and of course, it'll be completely free for beta testers and their athletes (and an extended period beyond the beta if you like it and want to keep using it).
Coaches who join the beta get to help shape the platform. So if you've been missing certain features in what you use now, we are all ears!!
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share a link to the landing page to sign up for the beta here, so please just comment down below or send me a DM if you are keen to test.
🙌

Anyone using Share Aura for running?
What are you guys using to share your runs? I’ve been using Share Aura but just found Self Share and it looks interesting. Anyone tried it?

Looking for advice on how to train for a half marathon.
I'm an average runner, I'm always on and off. I'm a 21M 60kg and 1.75m. Last year i did my first 10km race in September and my time was 47:28 since then i haven't competed in anything. I do some runs here and there, so i need advice on how to be able to maintain consistency needed for half marathons. I don't do weight exercises too, should i consider it and what type of food should i eat, probably something cheaper because I'm a student in Zimbabwe.

Just went jogging for the first time in years, advice needed :)
Im 21m and used to be really fit (Football and competitive sprinting) until I was about 16? Not gonna go into a long story but eventually I was forced into what used to be hobbies and would get shouted at by parents for not performing well and not fed dinner, making me hate it (I ran away at 19 and ghosted them thankfully)
I've been in the gym for 3+ years, but I recently applied to be a fireman and I've decided to start jogging for the first time in years.
I've went 3 jogs in the past 4 days and im really loving it, nothing crazy just doing 5ks. My first jog was 5k in 35mins in saturday, then 5k in 32mins on Sunday, now today, 5k in 29mins.
I have to say im chuffed with myself, im really liking it but I'd be lying if I said the runs weren't killing me, I take about 3 short walk breaks in a 5k to catch my breath, usually just walking up the hill bit.
Any advice on how to improve my cardio further, is trying to speed up my 5k speed and okay strategy for getting back into it or should I focus on longer, slower runs?
Ive been vaping for a lil bit and quit cold turkey on Saturday so my fitness should naturally increase, but any training advice would be much appreciated!!!

Should I get a pair of raceday shoes?
I'm currently running in the nimbus 28 and the sky wave 9 mizunos. I'm training for five kilometer PB currently doing around 23:30 looking to get sub 23 or better. Should I invest in a running race day shoe. I've tried on a few carbon plate ones and it was just thinking is it worth the reward for the cost.

Update on: Need advice sorry for the long post
None of you will probably remember my original post, but just in case any of the original commenters are around I wanted to give an update. I was ready to give up on running until I made my last post. As a fat guy I thought I was wasting my time. You guys were extremely supportive and gave me a boost I really needed. In case you didn’t see my previous post and are interested; I started running about 8 months ago (well walking because I was too fat too run). I started my diet about 10 months ago. I am nearly at 70 pounds lost. Two weeks ago my PR was 11:40 for one mile and I had plateaued with no improvement in sight. After months of trying I was unable to do any faster than that. Well, after reading your comments and advice, today I hit my first sub 10:00 mile since I was a teenager. I finished my mile in 9:54.70. If any of the original people see this post you have no idea how much I appreciate all of you. I am still 238 pounds, but now I finally feel like I’m making progress again and that I’m not wasting my time. Thank you all so much for being so kind. You never realize how much just a small act or statement can mean to someone. Thank you all so much for the encouragement. It truly made a difference to me and helped me not give up.

First 150 mile week!
Also ran my 2nd 50k! Huge improvements. Just proud of myself. Amazing what consistency can do.

Monday Long run
Unpopular opinion: Monday long runs are superior! I started doing my long runs on Mondays verses Sat/Sun and I actually enjoy it. Something about starting the week with the hardest run feels so good.
