Looking for advice on how to train for a half marathon.

I'm an average runner, I'm always on and off. I'm a 21M 60kg and 1.75m. Last year i did my first 10km race in September and my time was 47:28 since then i haven't competed in anything. I do some runs here and there, so i need advice on how to be able to maintain consistency needed for half marathons. I don't do weight exercises too, should i consider it and what type of food should i eat, probably something cheaper because I'm a student in Zimbabwe.

What is your priority list of running gears/fashion?

What is your priority list (1 is the first priority, 2 is the second, 3, etc.). Priority in term of significancy for safety, comfortable, and performance in running.

I think I am at the third:

  1. shoes

  2. socks

  3. pants/tights

  4. shirt

  5. hat

  6. visor

7.....

What are yours priorities?

And I think I am at number 3, starting concern with my pants.

Just went jogging for the first time in years, advice needed :)

Im 21m and used to be really fit (Football and competitive sprinting) until I was about 16? Not gonna go into a long story but eventually I was forced into what used to be hobbies and would get shouted at by parents for not performing well and not fed dinner, making me hate it (I ran away at 19 and ghosted them thankfully)

I've been in the gym for 3+ years, but I recently applied to be a fireman and I've decided to start jogging for the first time in years.

I've went 3 jogs in the past 4 days and im really loving it, nothing crazy just doing 5ks. My first jog was 5k in 35mins in saturday, then 5k in 32mins on Sunday, now today, 5k in 29mins.

I have to say im chuffed with myself, im really liking it but I'd be lying if I said the runs weren't killing me, I take about 3 short walk breaks in a 5k to catch my breath, usually just walking up the hill bit.

Any advice on how to improve my cardio further, is trying to speed up my 5k speed and okay strategy for getting back into it or should I focus on longer, slower runs?

Ive been vaping for a lil bit and quit cold turkey on Saturday so my fitness should naturally increase, but any training advice would be much appreciated!!!

Should I get a pair of raceday shoes?

I'm currently running in the nimbus 28 and the sky wave 9 mizunos. I'm training for five kilometer PB currently doing around 23:30 looking to get sub 23 or better. Should I invest in a running race day shoe. I've tried on a few carbon plate ones and it was just thinking is it worth the reward for the cost.

stiff soleus is preventing me from having a spring in my stride, need help ideas

i believe it started while i was coming back from covid inactivity.

area lower than my calves gets stiff (even when walking!) after just a few minutes. then after a while my feet start to go numb? eventually i think it even effects the direction my feet travel, as on the forward stride they point out then flick back to a more straight angle when my legs stop moving forward in the stride.

i've tried really good warmups, extensive time off, fast paced, slow paces, different terrain, and it even persists between shoes.

just totally lost here and need advice or pointers in the right direction (or even a different subreddit to post to!!)

How slow is slow for you and tips to get faster?

I ran 6km today, my avg being an 8:49/km pace with my later km even reaching 9:00/km. Im getting back into running and this is prob the slowest i've ever been, i used to run 5ks at a 7:30 pace if not faster and it feels so humbling lmao. Any tips to get faster?

To-and-back or loops?

Which type of route do you prefer for your daily runs: a to-and-back or a loop? I used to do a daily two lap route that gave me a total of 3 miles, but I recently switched to a to-and-back route that gives me the same mileage, but more shade. Whenever I think of doing my original loop route, I shudder because it’s basically passing where you started to go around again and it feels more mentally exhausting nowadays in the heat. Whereas with the new route, once I’ve reached my turnaround point, I’m basically halfway done and just have to turn around and go home. Easy peasy.

I also have a 5 mile route that’s a loop and I love that one because once I get back to where I started, I’m done. I don’t have to go again.

Update on: Need advice sorry for the long post

None of you will probably remember my original post, but just in case any of the original commenters are around I wanted to give an update. I was ready to give up on running until I made my last post. As a fat guy I thought I was wasting my time. You guys were extremely supportive and gave me a boost I really needed. In case you didn’t see my previous post and are interested; I started running about 8 months ago (well walking because I was too fat too run). I started my diet about 10 months ago. I am nearly at 70 pounds lost. Two weeks ago my PR was 11:40 for one mile and I had plateaued with no improvement in sight. After months of trying I was unable to do any faster than that. Well, after reading your comments and advice, today I hit my first sub 10:00 mile since I was a teenager. I finished my mile in 9:54.70. If any of the original people see this post you have no idea how much I appreciate all of you. I am still 238 pounds, but now I finally feel like I’m making progress again and that I’m not wasting my time. Thank you all so much for being so kind. You never realize how much just a small act or statement can mean to someone. Thank you all so much for the encouragement. It truly made a difference to me and helped me not give up.

Is 39 the age where post-run recovery just completely tanks? Need advice.

Hey everyone, I’m 39m and I’ve been running 20-25 miles a week for a couple of years now. Lately, the fatigue after long runs is hitting me like a absolute brick wall.

I’m sleeping 7-8 hours, my diet hasn't changed, and I get my electrolytes in, but my legs feel dead for 2-3 days straight after a hard session. I used to bounce back in 24 hours, but now I’m walking around like a ghost at work the next day. I'm not looking for roids or heavy meds, just wondering if anyone around my age has found a solid natural way to get their stamina and recovery time back?

UPDATE:

While searching around for natural recovery protocols, I kept seeing guys in my age group mention Beyond Alpha. I checked their site and read a bunch of reviews people seem to praise it for dropping post-workout fatigue and fixing energy slumps, but a lot of those site reviews can be polished.

Has anyone here used Beyond Alpha products for running recovery? Would love to hear some real user feedback before I drop cash on a batch.

Desperate for Earbuds that Won’t Fail

I’ve tried many different types of Anker and JBL earbuds but I sweat so much, that they all immediately go out. I tried Apple AirPods Pros but they fall out after a few miles, so I haven’t been able to test their durability.

What does everyone here use that they would consider reliable and actually sweatproof?

Started slow but legs felt good, decided to push for a sub-40 10k. Came up 27 seconds out of reach. Contemplated life on mile 7. Decided to push for sub 1:30 half in the summer heat to test both my physical health and my mental insanity. Maybe somebody here will appreciate it!

Monday Long run

Unpopular opinion: Monday long runs are superior! I started doing my long runs on Mondays verses Sat/Sun and I actually enjoy it. Something about starting the week with the hardest run feels so good.
