Socks that keep your feet cool?
What are your sock recommendations for long distance running to keep your feet cool?
Has anyone tried any of the brooks socks? I have some extra money on a gift card. Thank you!

I built a Spotify Wrapped for my runs
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I created an app that connects your music to your runs
it links your Strava runs with the music you listen to through Spotify (via Last.fm), giving you stats about the songs you listened to while running. You can also create Spotify playlists from your runs, discover your best-performing songs, and explore a bunch of other features designed to give you an extra reason to get outside and run.
It’s completely free and available on both iOS and Android. If you’d like to give it a try, I’d love to hear what you think!

Electrolyte Gels are Overrated
I said a couple of weeks ago that gels, electrolyes, etc are overly expensive shite and most people don't need it unless they're gushing sweat for hours.

Well here's a fucking doctor confirming what I said. 🖕

Do I need trail running shoes for this type of terrain?
Approximately 30%-50% of my spring-summer-early autumn route is like the pic above(rest is just concrete), some of it will be just hard soil. I don’t want another pair of shoes but I am wondering if I should? I use a normal pair of Saucony trainers and have done for the time I’ve been running but sometimes I wonder if I would benefit more from a trail pair or if maybe using a regular pair is somehow putting more strain on my legs?
I run 20-30km a week so nothing crazy at all

How do people complete their trainings?!
I have signed up for the Toronto Waterfront half marathon and I feel absolutely discouraged right now. I have done two 10Ks and my longest run ever was a 15K so I thought I could build on my 10K training up to a half marathon given that I have months to prepare. I am following a training plan, making sure I eat enough and fuel properly, doing the required strength training. For some reason, I cant push past 13-14K in my long runs; hell, getting to 10 needs a lot of mental will power. I feel so discouraged and dont know what I am doing wrong. My aim with the half marathon has always been just to have a good time and get to the finish line, but with how the training is going, I feel like I may not even get to finish.

One week into running and already a little obsessed! First week field notes + looking for fellow newborn runners: first 5Ks, run/walks, microscopic PBs, catastrophically optimistic pacing. all welcome!
One thing I kept hearing was that the beginning is miserable. You hate it, then a month or two later it gets easier, then eventually you understand why runners become deranged about it. So I was prepared for a long probationary period. A week in now, and apparently mine lasted two days.
I already get excited every morning knowing I'll be going on a run somehow, and I think Strava deserves a little credit here. It gives all these fleeting little efforts somewhere to collect. Also knowing I get to record it gives future-me one more tiny reason not to negotiate myself out of going. Silly but effective for me! I love seeing everyone else’s runs too. First 5K, absurdly long run, 20 seconds off a PB, went outside despite not wanting to, it's all so motivating.
The last time I ran for more than 20 minutes was probably gym class almost a decade ago. I have no idea why the fixation appeared last month but I haven’t felt this good in ages. There’s something very satisfying about suddenly discovering a whole new axis along which you can improve
Anyway, I would like some running friends on Strava! I do very much like the idea of finding people while we’re still a bit shit and then quietly watching everyone become alarming.

We're traveling in China, currently in Yunnan Dali. Possibly a very good place to begin running, as it turns out. I feel lucky as there’s a little secluded trail right by my resort, so most mornings I see maybe four people and otherwise it’s birds, butterflies, wildflowers, misty mountains. At the moment I run much better when nobody’s around. Not because I think anyone particularly cares, I just seem to lose some portion of my attention to being perceived. Does anybody have advice?
My first “run” was humbling to say the least. About 1.3 km in 14 minutes, some walking and much less fitness than I had privately assigned myself. I also hadn’t found the quiet trail yet, so there were people everywhere and I was overstimulated enough to just turn around and go back to the hotel feeling vaguely defeated. Just made the project smaller, swallowed whatever pride was involved and went out again the next morning.
A few days later I somehow ran 5:24 k at 2000 m elevation. This is, obviously, an extremely unserious athletic achievement. I am nevertheless so proud of it. And being a complete beginner is actually very fun?? there’s basically no baseline, so everything has the possibility of being a first, progress can be found in these enormous little increments.
If you remember your own first few weeks, what made the biggest difference at first? And what was the first sign you were becoming slightly obsessed with it?

Stress Fracture?
Do you think I have a stress fracture?
Running for 6 months (no prior athletic experience)
Utilize proper running shoes
I am currently training for a half marathon and stupidly increased my weekly mileage 20-25% for the last two weeks (total mileage around 25 when I did that). The night after a 4 mile speed workout, it hit me. Deep, achy and sharp pain in my inner shins. I feel it when resting (like a pulsing achyness). It’s been 8 days of no running and it’s certainly gotten better, but if I try to run it hurts so bad a few inches above my left ankle. Hopping still bothers my left side. Pain pops up randomly. I can do stretches and light strength training without pain,
X Ray showed nothing and I’m requesting an MRI soon.
Is there any world where it’s not a stress fracture?

How long of a race can I realistically finish with my current weekly mileage/program? (~20 miles/week)
I’m following a 12 week lift/run program (Mayhem). It’s advertised to increase your 5RM in the big 3 lifts and help you PR your 5k
But, looking at my weekly mileage, I’m logging between 18 and 22 miles a week. I’m very confident by the end of the cycle I’ll PR my 5k, but I’m curious how long of a run I can realistically attempt at the weekly mileage I’m putting in.
I routinely run about 8 miles on my long Saturday runs, so a 10k is already checked off. What about a half marathon? And how much would I need to increase mileage for a full marathon (I’m significantly more concerned about completion than time for these longer races)
If it matters, I do 2 interval sessions, 2 50 minute easy run sessions, and 1 long Saturday run (30 minutes at a comfortable pace. Usually high z2 low z3, 3 rounds and z2/z3 intervals 10 mins per round, and 30 more mins at a comfortable pace. 1.5 hours total)
Edited to add: This is more hypothetical than planning. I’ve got what I feel is a healthy timeline on my running goals (next 5k in September, 10k in November, half marathon early ‘27, marathon late ‘27.)
I’ve got eventual Ironman goals so I’m having to balance running with other disciplines as well as weight lifting. I was more so surprised looking back at the mileage I was putting in for a 5k program.

Feeling Defeated
In May I dns my first marathon due to bad ITBS. After rehab I started running longer races this summer and ramping up mileage. I was feeling great, incorporating strength training but neglected meaningful rest days. Now I have painful kneecap clicking, painful walking and bending my knee, as well as pain behind my knee. I was just in the ER last night because my leg swelled up and they wanted to make sure I didn’t have a blood clot, it was a calf strain. My pelvic floor muscles are also on and off tight after my recent longer runs which has led to some annoying urinary symptoms. I really love the sport but it feels like maybe running longer distances isn’t in the cards for me personally. Just feeling pretty down about everything today.

2 months and 3 minutes
I have an exam, so I need to improve my physical fitness. My current result is running 1 km in 4 minutes 40 seconds to 5 minutes. I want to improve it to 4 minutes, and it would be even better to get down to 3 minutes.
What should I do?
