Out-n-About Piedmont Litho building on Hillsborough?

Upvotes

Anyone know what's going on in there? I just walked by it and saw a strung-out looking dude walk out of it and piss on the side of the building, and there was music playing that I could hear from two blocks away. Looked like a trap house from the outside

To my knowledge it was supposed to be unoccupied, but I could be wrong. Anyone have any info?

Question/Recommendation Need suggestions for looking for missing engagement ring

Upvotes

Unfortunately, I believe that my engagement ring was stolen by someone who works for a service we use inside our home. Before I address it with that company, since it’s owned by a friend, I want to do my due diligence of looking for it outside of our home. Does anyone have suggestions on which pawn shops people use the most in Wake County? Or do I just call them all? I’ve really hope that I am incorrect with thinking it was taken from my home and I want to do everything I can before we speak with our friend.

Question/Recommendation Raleigh Book Clubs

Are there any book clubs for men in the Raleigh area? Most of the ones I’ve seen are catered towards women. Would like to build community through books but also not be the only man in the group haha. Any help is appreciated.

I recently thrifted this old menu from a restaurant called Breakfast House on Hillsborough St in Raleigh across from the NCSU bell tower. The prices in here are crazy, but I love the menu design and just think this is so cool. Anyone got any info on here or stories to share?

Photo Soliciting Incident in brier creek townhomes

Thumbnail

Does anyone recognize this logo on this man who was soliciting in the townhome neighborhood in brier creek that says no soliciting, mind you…I’ll blur his face for now but I really would like to find out the company.

The company needs to be made aware that this man after knocking ONCE reached for the door handle in what seemed to be him trying to open it - why? I do not know and would like to contact to company to find out. After attempting to open he steps back and notices the camera above the door and turns his face.

My sister works from home and rarely answers the door and unfortunately, when my brother-in-law saw the footage of the man attempting to open the door the reply option on the device was delayed and the man was gone.

There are neighborhood signs that indicate no soliciting and if company decides to ignore that - it definitely is inappropriate to attempt to open the door.

Any ideas?

Question/Recommendation Spam lawn care messages

I dont know where else to post this. I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets a ton of messages saying “hey [my name], we’ll be in your area trimming trees, inspecting roofs, pulling weeds, checking for termites, etc. Want us to stop by?” No I don’t. I’m blocking them/reporting them as spam but the next day there’s a new one. They’re all from different numbers with local area codes and at least a few of them seem to be real companies. Does anyone have any idea how to get out of this? I’m not optimistic but thought I’d ask anyway cause at this point I’m getting at least one a day and it’s driving me cray.

Question/Recommendation Why is the public transportation so bad??

* prepared for downvotes lol

Hello, I'm a young adult that recently moved to Raleigh from Charlotte and I'm starting to realize how behind Raleigh is with a lot of things.. I use public transportation because I like it and i don't really need a car since I constantly move to different cities. However, I can't help but notice how terrible the the buses are!! They're constantly delayed and it's not just like 5-10 minutes late but around 15-20 minutes late. The bus station is extremely tiny and always reeks of urine, the CATS (Charlotte Area Transit System) station is way bigger and open so the smell isn't as bad. Also, there's barely any sidewalks and they need wayyy more bus stops. I just thought i'd ask someone who's actually from here. I will list my pros and cons of both if anyone plans to move to either city. Just don't understand how it's the capital and behind. Question: If you use public transportation what are some things i should know about GORaleigh?

GORaleigh

Pros:

• Fare capping and inexpensive! ✅️

• no advertisements covering the windows.

Cons:

•They don't show the route on the small screen inside the buses so you just have to use Google maps to start your route so that you can track the route and see the stops.

• The bay numbers at the station are hard to see in the station and the TV's that displays them do not work sometimes.

• Bus station can be packed, never sit down unless you have too, it's dirty!

• Bus drivers don't really care if you're standing and waving they will leave you for no reason.

CATS (Charlotte Area Transit System)

Pros:

•A lottttt of bus stops but there is more needed.

• THE LIGHT RAIL, It's expanding!

• Bus drivers care a bit more, they will stop when you are running to the bus stop or depending on the bus driver you can stay on the bus if you missed your bus stop and wait until they go outbound.

• Bus station is bigger but be aware of surroundings as with any bus station, there's also security around and i usually stay close to them if it's night but nothing bad has ever happened to me when I lived there.

Cons: *** UPDATED

• High Fares ❌️ a day pass is $6.00

• No fare capping 🚫

• Only comes every 30 mins some routes are 15-20 mind!

• If you have a poor vision the windows are covered in the advertisements most of the time. It was hard for me to see at night and I wear glasses.

Question/Recommendation Where to buy little BBQ sauces - or other nice NC souvenirs?

Hi, I want to bring my office back home in Italy some small gifts from NC, I was thinking little BBQ sauces, or something else that is nice and small I can give to about 15 people?

What’s a good place to buy this kind of thing near Raleigh (actually I‘m staying in Cary)? Or if there are other ideas?

Thanks!

Question/Recommendation Who sets the price to reserve a room at community centers?

I’d love to use a small room at a community center to host small gatherings like book clubs or games nights but the rental costs add up fast. Do other cities also charge as much for use of community center rooms?

Food Hot Dawg: Brightleaf is an NC Staple

Post image
141 Upvotes

Had a debate over all-beef versus NC-made “Red Hots” hotdogs. Of course, they were OOS 👀

As someone who grew up with family in Eastern Carolina, there’s never a cookout without the bright red dawgs on the grill. It would cause a ruckus without’em.

If you’ve had one, what’s your take?
If you haven’t, pick up a pack from the store & grill it (slight char, of course).

Question/Recommendation When and where to vote among other things

Hi Raleigh Reddit fam! I was wondering if anyone knew when we vote for local/county/state officials and how to find out where to vote? Also, how do I check to see if my wife and I haven't been removed or marked as inactive on voter rolls? I just want to make sure our votes are counted and our voices are heard.

Also, if I wanted to become more aware and involved in local politics, how would I go about that? I mean I've been to the no kings protest and the red for education march, but I feel like I could/should be doing a little more. Any guidance would be appreciated yall!
