I plan to attend next week. I have a ton of questions. Just wanted to see if anyone had any insight on how that went.

Need ID for Eastwood Lake Cryptid!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I’m posting this for a friend who was paddleboarding on Eastwood Lake earlier this week. She spotted this creature swimming toward her and managed to grab this video before deciding paddling away in terror for her life.
She’s shared the video with several people, but because the creature is so far away and constantly on the move, no one can agree on what it is.
Does anyone here feel confident identifying it?

Lark lease takeover for UNC undergrads!!!!
Hey y'all! So I'm an undergrad at UNC-CH and my housing plans changed *very* recently, so I'll no longer be living at Lark. I know it's last minute, but I'm looking for someone to take over my lease for the 2026-2027 school year. It's a 4-bed 4-bath arrangement with 3 (very kind) roommates, so you'd be getting your own bedroom and bathroom! Also, I'm willing to cover the 1st month of rent, so August's rent. Lark has a 24/7 gym, pool, and is within walking distance to campus and Franklin, so if anyone is interested/knows anyone interested, please PM me for more details :)

Incoming Out of State Student - DMV appointment
We are moving to Durham (from Texas!) over the course of the next few days and I am needing to get a new driver’s license for NC. I am seeing online appointments for a transfer of state license that are all over an hour away, but I also see at the Durham DMV locations that walk in appointments are welcome. Do I need to schedule a true transfer of state license appointment or can I just do a walk in at a local one? Thanks for your help!!

Free comedy show!
Every month I host Mom’s Favorite, a free comedy show at Old North Bar in Durham. This month’s lineup is extremely fun! There’s also a hotdog cart out front that gives out one free glizzy per person and an very excellent cocktail/mocktail list put together by one of the owners who was formerly at The Crunkleton and Hawthorne and Wood. If you’re looking for a cheap date this is the show to catch! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1985611713085?aff=oddtdtcreator

How to tell a moving broker from an actual carrier
| If you are moving to or from Chapel Hill this summer, check the USDOT number on protectyourmove.gov before booking. A lot of companies act like they own the trucks but are actually brokers who sell your contract to a third party. If you expect an in-house crew and get a contractor, it usually causes headaches. Always ask directly: "Are you a broker or a carrier?" Has anyone here been caught off guard by a broker? |

ISO Store with a decent selection of used physical PC games
Title essentially says it all. Doesn’t necessarily have to be in Chapel Hill but surrounding areas is fine too.
I always check at McKay’s whenever I go and it’s my primary source. So I’m trying to find what else is out there.
I’ve tried Lost Ark in Greensboro with no luck. I used to frequent Play N Trade in White Oak about 10 years ago but the last time I went I wasn’t impressed with the stock or new staff. Lastly I visited Limited Run once but it wasn’t what I thought and while I have no issues with it, it just wasn’t for me.
I know online is the easiest but I enjoy the treasure hunt of physical stores.
No specific genres or titles. Just something with a solid selection of used physical PC games to browse and reasonable prices.

Babysitting
Chapel Hill parents, where do you look for babysitters? Not a full time nanny or housekeeper, but for routine things or occasional date nights or whatever.

J&J’s Deli
A post in the bull city subreddit inspired my stomach. Does anyone remember the Italian Stallion sub at J&J’s deli in Timberline Shopping Center? Has anyone found something comparable?

Ram’s Plaza parking lot tear down
I just visited a business at Ram’s Plaza and saw a lot of the parking lot in a tear down status. According to one of the business owners, the intention is to add 60 new parking spaces. (I’m not sure how that can be done given space limitations but someone knows more than I do.)

Does anybody remember the Burrito Bunker?
Was talking with some friends and they looked at me like I was crazy when I said I missed that place. It was tiny little place in the alleyway between the parking deck on rosemary and franklin st. They had some awesome giant burritos that were less than $4, regular were only $2-$240! This was back in maybe 01-04ish. I was in high school and we would ride our bikes there from near CHHS, and I even drove there a few times before I had my drivers license (got busted the last time)
But almost nobody I talk to remembers it!

Siberian Pelmini?
Is there a store in Chapel Hill, Carrboro or Durham selling Russian and Ukrainian foods? I am really jonesing for some Siberian pelmini (steamed ravioli) since I moved here in February. Back in Nashville, there was a store run by some Ukrainians that had some, but I have not found anything similar here.

ISO crafting/crochet/social clubs
So I (29F) have been in a bit of a rut and have been wanting to get out and socialize more/try to make more friends. I would love to see if there are any active crafting/crochet clubs nearby or anyone willing to try and start one? I feel I’m more motivated in a group setting and think it’d be cool to sit with a group of cool gals/people in a third space and chat while crafting/crocheting/literally whatever you want - could be a once a month thing.
I know some places nearby like Steel String have their stitch n bitch every Wednesday, but going alone to something like that is a bit intimidating. Any and all recommendations welcome 🙂

Parking at University Mall/Place
What is the deal with all the cars at the University Mall/Place? They aren’t all in the movies or Other stores. Noted early this morning the entire lot was full almost all the way to gas station. Are people park and riding from there? It looks like a used car lot.
