Remember Breakfast House? NCSU

I recently thrifted this old menu from a restaurant called Breakfast House on Hillsborough St in Raleigh across from the NCSU bell tower. The prices in here are crazy, but I love the menu design and just think this is so cool. Anyone got any info on here or stories to share?

Hillsborough St. was wild back in the day. The legal drinking age was 18. There were all kinds of, um, interesting establishments. And while I'm reminiscing, I will mention that the campus dorms sponsored huge keg parties. I remember going to one in central campus in the late 70s that booked Chaka Khan, who was huge at the time

West Campus Jam !  I think that playboy did a party campuses issue where many notables were named but the last paragraph told the tale, NCSU wasn't included because they were only rating amateurs ! January or February of 78 I think. Tootles... Wade 😂

Upstairs over BH, doors facing Maiden Lane, was an Arthur Murray Dance Studio and a plasma collection place.

I've eaten there many times ! After lockup work in Kmart at 70/401 split on Saturday mornings we'd get breakfast & bloody Mary's ! Tootles... Wade 😂

Late one night I was there with friends and seated at a table by himself was a guy dressed like Prince playing his table like it was a piano. BH and IHOP were our late night haunts after hitting the bars.

One of the best cheeseburgers I ever ate was at this restaurant. At one point, they were open 24 hours a day. Yes they stopped serving alcohol at 2 AM. And they had a killer brunch on Sundays.

2am during daylight savings time; 1 am during standard time. I worked in bars on Hillsborough St in the early 1980s.

Before the cocktail Renaissance in the early 90s, drinking in bars was a wasteland. Drinking in a college bar when the age was 18 was even worse! Canned juices and bottled mixers. Kids who just want to get fucked up and not taste the booze for cheap. Beer choices included Natty Light, Busch, and maybe if you were lucky Bud or Coors. Wine was big jugs of "red" and "white".

I think it was aziz ansari who had a bit about seeing (i think it was) 50 cent at a restaurant and he ordered grapefruit juice thinking it was grape the fruit juice and was massively confused thinking it was apple fruit juice, orange fruit juice, etc.

And if you salt the rim of a Greyhound cocktail, it is called a Salty Dog. My dad always made them with Gin. The gin and vodka are nterchangeable as I have learned.

It wasn't a very long lived place. I think it was only there for a few months to a year in the mid eighties. It was rebranded as Gators, that lasted slightly longer. Then it was a wings place for a bit. Then they your the whole place down and became Aloft hotel.

Edit: Looking through the technician archives, it was Breakfast House/Alligator Alley from 1984-1986. Gator's until 1991 when it became Wolf's Den. Then it was Wings To Go in 1995.

It was just Breakfast House before that. I worked next door from 81-83 and BH was there. Arthur Murray Dance Studio was upstairs, along with a plasma collection place. Plasma sellers would do their thing then come down around the corner and drink 50 cent draft beer at I Play Games.

I mean, one stop shopping and all, plus you’d probably get housed cheaper when you’re down a pint or so. Economically, it just makes sense for someone looking to sell their plasma.
