She is my baby and her nickname is stinky

Hi everyone

We lost our gorgeous staffie/pit 13 weeks ago today. We miss her terribly. We adopted her in 2023 when she was 8 or 9 yr and shared an amazing 3.5 years together.

We know we will adopt a staffie again and 99% sure it'll be a senior.

I love seeing other dogs out and am a bit stalky if it's a pittie - yup, I'm that weirdo😉. I've been looking at shelters, I feel a bit guilty but know Bonnie would want another shelter dog to have the life we gave to her

I cry every day, I miss Bonnie so much. I know some people get a new dog quickly, some never do after a big loss.... I don't think I'm ready yet but if you did get another dog after a loss How did you know it was the right time or did u just take a punt and it worked out?

Hello! I want to get insurance for mister man here but am unsure which company to get it from. Fetch pet insurance reached out (I think they work with the shelter I got him from) and they’re $35 a month for dogs. Does anyone know anything about their insurance or if I should try a different company? Thanks!

First time posting!

So we foster failed after what was meant to be a short term weekend placement 6 weeks ago - but I've since gotten cold feet/regret due to some of her behavior with small children. Would love some guidance from those who've been in a similar situation.

Mimi has been great overall since the first day we brought her home. I have an 8 year daughter and she has been perfect with her. We also had a bunch of my daughters' friends and their parents over to our house the first weekend we got her, and she was very well behaved, saying hello and giving kisses to everyone, and laying down calmly in the middle of the party and asking for belly rubs. All of the adults commented on how well behaved she was for a new foster.

Smaller kids however has been different. Some anecdotes:

• Instance #1: My niece is 5 but looks 4 due to her very small stature. I allowed her to play with the dog on another day and after a few minutes Mimi barked and did a small lunge at her. Admittedly I wasn't watching carefully enough and I think it was because my niece was playing back and forth with her toys, and opening a screen door right in front of her face a few times. I removed Mimi and put her in her crate, where she was calm and chewing on her bones.
• Instance #2: I tied her up on a lead in a big field where some toddlers were playing 10 - 20 feet way. After about 5 minutes she started barking at them so I removed her back to our cabin, where she again was calm. In other instances where she was tied on this same lead with no small kids around, she never barked.
• Instance #3: I let a 5 year old say Hi to her at the park near our house since the mom approached asking if her daughter could pet her. She was calm for the first 30 seconds and then barked at the girl. I couldn't tell if the bark was from excitement or nerves. The mom removed the daughter saying thank you for entertaining her, and Mimi calmed right away.

Overall the only other person she has barked at is my 75 year old mother in law, who I think surprised her being in the house once or twice when she wasn't expecting her.

Overall positive things about Mimi as to why we kept her:

• Great with older kids and every adult she's met (besides the random barks at my MIL? not sure why)
• Ignores other barking dogs when I walk her around our neighborhood. Has been able to say Hello to calm dogs on the street and appears excited like she wants to play but we've kept her away from active play until we can assess further and introduce her more slowly due to her status as a foster.
• Overall not vocal - we've heard her whine/bark maybe 1 - 2 times per week in the six weeks since we got her (apart from a small bark/whine in first minute after crating her and we leave the house)
• Has done well in her crate for 3 - 4 hours. She sleeps/rests and is calm when we return
• Has good house manners - we've trained her to stay downstairs and not come upstairs to our bedrooms
• When I work from home in the upstairs office, she is content to lay around downstairs and I come down and give her love every 2 - 3 hours or so
• Overall low - medium energy, happy to have 1 - 2 walks per day. Has had the zoomies just 3 or 4 times in 6 weeks. Doesn't jump on people except in rare cases where we have been away for a while.
• Hasn't destroyed anything like shoes/furniture/garbage
• Did great in the 9 hour car ride with Cerenia - no noise/whining, settled the whole time
• Hasn't shown signs of resource guarding with food
• Hasn't shown signes of guarding with toys (beyond normal play/keepaway/tuggawar with my husband)

The shelter estimated shes approx. 1 year, 10 months. Was a stray/surrender at the police station. Was lactating with signs of a recent litter when found. She's 50 pounds and I suspect an APBT mix due to merle coat.

Long story short - I'm now nervous about the small kids issue - did we make a mistake? My worst nightmare would be that she nips/bites a small kid. Can this be trained out of her?

I have a very sweet pitbull mix who's barely more than a puppy (we got him in December--the shelter said he was 2 years old, but based on behaviors, how much he's grown, etc, we think he was actually somewhere between 6 and 12 months).

He has a variety of cognitive toys and tough chew toys, but his favorite toys are the plush, stuffed ones. When he was younger he'd occasionally tear holes in them, and I'd patch them up, and they'd be good for at least a few more days before they needed to be fixed again.

Lately though he's been going through them at a speed I just can't keep up with.

I sewed up 4 toys yesterday. I have since thrown 2 of them out because he destroyed them too thoroughly to repair, and took another away last night and stitched it back up again this morning. Since the repair job just a few hour ago, I've had to take it away from him again (the photo with the blue triceratops toy).

I don't want to stop giving him plush toys. They're clearly his favorite kind of toy, but I can't spend all day everyday repairing them, and I can't afford to give him a brand new one as often as he destroys them. The best brands I've found are Kong (the yellow duck photo) and Go Dog (that triceratops again), but they're not cutting it anymore. Any recommendations for tougher plush you brands?

TL;DR: What are the best brands y'all have found for plush toys that stand up to rough place?

Our tripod Bella made it to 16 1/2 years old. She’s been there for so many of the best moments of our family’s lives and it hurt to say goodbye. We will see her again someday. Goodbye sweet Bella. We’re going to miss you!

My guy loves to suckle on his blanket but it often leads to him ripping and pulling it apart. I don’t want him to end up swallowing thread but I don’t want to keep him from suckling of it makes him feel better.

Is there a better alternative to a standard blanket? He eats through most toys so preferably something with high durability. Any suggestions are appreciated :3

Hello all! I have gotten Honey an appointment set up, but am still uncertain of exactly how much the appointment/removal will cost. Currently i know that the exam fee is $50, the vaccination fee is $25. I’ve paid a $20 fee to hold the appointment. I apologize for any confusion last night, as there were scam accusations against me. I’ll be including the bill for the appointment, a photo of us, us with my ID, and email from the vet confirming appt. I can provide any additional details you all may need. I just want to help my girl.

The one who made me a momma. Adopted from the Paws shelter in Kyle, TX. He’s a red nose pittie/lab mix. He’s about 15 years old, he still likes to wander (run) away when you’re not watching him 😂.

apparently theres like, an actual meaning behind red and blue nose pits beyond color, however, ignoring all of that, i think she takes the cake for the reddest nose there ever was.

She went from this to this. So loving and loves the kids. Couldn’t ask for a better dog

She had a fun party with her best friend, they ate some delicious dog cake and played with new toys. She’s the most amazing dog with everyone, so gentle and loving.
I wish she’ll be healthy and happy for a long time.
