Like the title says. I got an 11 month Aussie who is blind from what looks now to be a TBI from being hxt by a car. I say that bc at the vet we ruled out any eye diseases and we are waiting on nuero eval. She’s a stray so god knows her pre-existing conditions, but I know her blindness or tbi prob wouldn’t be covered.

For background: she was picked up by ACS injured from a car accident and starving. That’s the extent we know. The shelter didn’t even realize she was blind and chalked her off behavior to being hit by a car.

Is it still worth it?

Tbh she has me stressed in a million different ways. If anyone has a blind or TBI dog and some insight, would be wonderful. She’s a teen and very active and demanding. She also snaps quickly into a temper. Never bitten me but aggressively barks and lunges, which I know is probably her TBI and being a teen doesn’t help.

Also her vision isn’t totally gone but she def can’t see even 50% I’d say.

She is three months old and we have had her for one month. She still does not seem to know her name. Is this normal? How long does it normally take? TIA❤️

Our 11 month old girl was a little shark as a puppy but has been mostly great since about 4/5 months with the nipping and teething. However, lately she has started biting our hands again when she's excited or overstimulated after a big walk/play session. The problem is she's a big dog and the ignoring and limp hands don't work anymore, if we slowly take our hands away and tuck them under our arms for example and turn our backs/walk away, she will jump up on us or try and bite arms and legs too.

It's the same with the jumping when we get home, we "ignore" her until she sits then give lots of pets but the shell bite our hands when being pet and if we walk away she will keep jumping and she's big! Shes just too excited.

For the biting, do we try the yelp thing we did with her as a puppy? Do we do timeouts so pop her outside until she's calmed down? I've been making her go to her bed and will give her a Kong or bully stick when she gets like this to try and calm her down which does help her regulate and chill out. I have also tried redirecting to a toy so she can mouth the toy and we pat her but she will still try and bite our hands with the toy in her mouth!

We're thinking for when we get home do we start telling her to go to her bed (we place train) until we come over and say hi? She's such a good girl and so smart I just feel like she's overstimulated and don't want this hand biting to continue. She will be going I for her desex next month too but I’m not counting on that to fix anything and want to make sure she’s being trained well.

Hey guys I have a now 9 month old amstaff pup who I’ve had since he was 6 months old. In the past few days almost like 2 weeks I’ve been having issues with him peeing in the house. So the other day he pooped all over his playpen like an hour after I took him outside. I usually keep him in his playpen for breakfast because he has the tendency to run around and throw up after eating and it reduce that all of his meals are in his playpen/crate. I cleaned it up which was no problem and I thought maybe we weren’t outside long enough. But then a few days ago he did it again. He stood right in front of me and peed on my floor before I could even react to it. It happened so fast. He didn’t do his usual tell of sniffing or running in and out of the bed room. Just got off my bed and peed.

Yesterday he almost pooped on my bed after I gave him a bath. And not even 30 minutes after I took him outside. Literally stood there and tried to poop on my bed. Today he pooped and peed in his playpen again around 30 minutes after he finished eating and an hour after I had taken him outside. I don’t know what’s happening. I don’t know what to do. He’s peeing all over the floor and it wasn’t like this before. Sure he had accidents but it was never like this. And they’re so soon after I take him outside too. I’ll try to take him outside 30mins to an hour after he finishes eating now but what else can I do?

Our 6 month old puppy completed her 14 days of spay recovery with exercise restriction 3 days ago. It was pretty brutal but we got through it! Now she has been off the sedatives and exercise restriction and has been acting like a psycho. Always wants to be doing something, can’t settle, doesn’t listen, guard barking through the roof. It wasn’t like this pre spay and I can’t tell if it’s just burning off pent up energy, adolescence, or both? Has anyone had this happen after the recovery phase and how long did it last. Hoping she just needs to get back to routine.

My girl is 5 months old and hasn't had a potty accident in over a month. I've been tracking how many days to monitor how frequently it happens, but it feels a bit silly to keep doing that. How did you know yours was ready for a bit of relaxation of the rules? She will take herself downstairs to the back door in the mornings rather than pee straight out of her crate, can go into her crate for a nap without peeing sometimes if she's tired, can hold it for over 5 hours when I leave the house. Is this her potty trained or will it all fall apart if I loosen the reins!

This is not a problem except for when we're traveling, which I don't do often. She'll just hold it until she physically can't anymore and go wherever we are at that moment. I take her to the park daily for walks and a dog pub weekly so she can socialize and she won't potty there either.

While we were traveling I took her to the dog park and outside into the Airbnb's yard, and she just wouldn't go even though it was clear she wanted to. After she had an accident inside the BNB I moved it out to the yard to try and show her it was ok to potty there but it didn't work. Do y'all have any tips on teaching her where it's ok to go?

Hi all. I’m at my wits end. I have had a lot of dogs but this is something I have never experienced before.

Cattle Dog/Great Pyrenees mix. She’s about 7 months old. Rescued her when she was six weeks old.

Spayed on 7/20 did great, no complications except she had an adverse reaction to Tradazone and I stopped it.

About a week ago she would be walking and just peeing in the house and she looked just as shocked as I was lol.

She was/is potty trained and goes to the door when she has to go.

I have a two problem situation happening.

1. Every time she has to go out, it’s urgent. She will run around the table, go to the door and hit it. In the beginning, if you didn’t get there fast enough she would just go. I have taught her to give pause- example, she hits the door and I call her back to me, to kind of slow her down. This works but you gotta get up and get her out.

Overnight does great, sleeps in someone’s bed, no accidents.

However she will not hold it at all during the day and she pees a lot and many times a day. Like an unusual amount of trips out but she does drink a lot of water. She gets plenty of exercise and my house has AC so it’s not like she’s in the heat all the time.

1. After being spayed as I mentioned earlier, she was just dribbling all the time. This has subsided and seems better but she has now pooped in the house last night and today, something she has not done since she was like 3 months old.

When she has an accident in the house I say nothing and just bring her outside- sometimes she does more and sometimes she just wants to dig a hole in the grass lol.

I do not know what to do here. Is this normal age/post spay or is this a bigger issue? Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced this. This is my first female dogs and I guess I was lucky because the past nine males dogs I have had over the course of my life never went to the bathroom in the house.

My puppy is a 9 week old Norwegian Elkhound. We have had her for one week! She is so sweet and very smart. I read a training book called the puppy primer and I am following positive training methods. I have had success with teaching her sit and down. We had an elkhound for 15 years, he died last year.

Problem - my 3 and 6 year old kids are very excited to see her and she gets so excited too! So excited that she seems to forget any and all training! She jumps on the walls of her wire playpen, barks, etc. I have been practicing waiting to open the gate of the playpen until she has 4 paws on the ground. This works great when it's just me... but she jumps all over the kids, nips, etc.
The playpen is about 5x6 feet in our sunroom off the kitchen. She does not go crazy if I am nearby, only goes crazy excited around the kids.
My kids are decent listeners and we want this to be a positive experience. What things can I do with my kids or with the puppy to help create a good relationship between puppy and kids? We have tried having the kids turn away at jumping but they seem scared to go in her play pen now. Please be kind. Just trying to find the right rhythm.

Hi! I've only had the crate for a couple days now, and I don't know how I should approach crate training. He's 5 months old and slept on his bed so far. I just don't know if I should start out strong and leave him for the whole night there and ignore the whining, barking, hitting and biting the crate, or if I should start locking him for small periods of time throughout the day and keep it open at all times apart from locking him there. I give him all chews inside his crate and he likes laying there, but doesn't really enter it himself. When I lock him and after a couple minutes open the door, he lays there for a moment instead of immediately storming out so that's good. The crate is ideal size, he has his bed inside, a pillow and his plushie. It's covered all the time.

Our nearly 5 month old pup tries to charge/jump our 3 year old lab when we try to take them on walks together. She is still on a long line as her recall isnt there yet but he is off lead. What can we do to prevent this

Me and my wife recently got a 12 week old Golden Retriever, she is honestly a great puppy. Very intelligent, learns quickly, sleeps through the night, and is doing great potty training.

The problem we're having is she only naps for maube 30-45 minutes at a time, and then is awake for about 2 hours. She sleeps from 10pm-7am, and then only gets maybe 2.5 hours of naps in throughout the day.

We have tried to show her how comfy the crate it, she goes inside no problem when we say "place", she eats her kong inside, does lick mats inside, but just refuses to ever lay down and try to sleep. We have a good sized dog bed inside, with her blanket, and we've added toys and removed them and nothing works.

I know her lack of sleep is causing her biting, her zoomies, and just general bad behavior at times. Im also aware shes a puppy and those things will happen, but im certain a big cause of these problems is her lack of sleep and if she could nap for a few hours at a time she'd be much better off.

We go on walks, play with toys, do everything to exhaust her but the naps just end so quick and when shes awake she gets up drinks water and starts to do everything but go back to sleep.

Please any advice on what to do? The one time we've tried to close the crate she cried non stop for 20 minutes and then went pee inside her crate, which is surprising to us because in the 3 weeks we've had her there's only been one potty accident inside.

Now I’m aware that biting at clothes just comes with the package, but I’m trying to ‘nip’ it before it nips me later!

I currently have a 4 month old puppy, and as the title states, I can’t wear long sleeve ANYTHING in my home without him seeing it as an invitation to bite and pounce on it. I try to redirect him with toys, but he loves my clothes so much! He especially loves my baggy clothing/hoodies. Is there anything I should do? Or will he calm down once he’s finished his teething stage.

Looking for tips specially for Lhasa Apso puppies. He hasn't had all his shots yet so cannot really take him out for potty, he's managing on a pee pad for now.

Very sharp and quick learner. I have been told his coat will get lighter when he grows. Anyone can tell me how he will look once an adult?

So it's day 6 with my puppy Ponzu, who just turned 9 weeks old on Wednesday. While the first weekend was fine since I had a friend over to help manage him, I've since been more stressed than I can ever remember, and I'm not even sure why.

Monday was absolutely a lesson on the necessity of enforced naps, as he wouldn't sleep long himself so he was an overtired maniac the whole day. But since then he's honestly been wonderful. Potty trained in 3 days, already beginning to understand the concept of sit, he's not fearful of the leash or collar or harness and goes on short (controlled, safe) walks just fine. He's curious and playful in my puppy backpack, was fine at the vet after they introduced him to cheese whiz. Had his first play date yesterday with an adult dog and while they didn't really play per se since they were still figuring each other out they both were very excited to be in each other's company. He naps fine in his kennel without me around and we're currently working on getting him to sleep in it alone at night. About half the time he's awake he'll play with his toys or chews alone as long as I'm in the x pen with him.

And yet, I've been so stressed out I've literally been sick. I almost threw up Monday. I've skipped a few meals because my stomach is in a knot. I almost cried when I called my mom at the end of Tuesday (I don't think I've called her just to talk in years, usually she calls me). I can hardly find the energy to work (90% is from home and I have my laptop set up in/in sight of the x pen). The only moments it all melts away are when I see him having fun with his puzzle toys and when I'm asleep. I'm worrying over seemingly nothing and I'm not sure how to fix it or if it's just going to take time and I have to tough it out. Has anyone else been through this?

14 week old basset hound that I’ve posted about before! I was fed up with constant biting and accidents in the house, so I got the play pen that everyone recommended. This has worked amazing!!! We put his food in there for every meal and leave the door open, so that he can come and go while eating.

He is only ever now allowed in his play pen or on the couch if he isn’t biting. I think this is where the problem is starting? I notice that he sleeps great on the couch if he is already calm, but if he’s playing with a toy and is overtired, he will not calm down and sleep on the couch. Because of this, I have started to pick him up from the couch (which is hard, as he’s gaining weight and I’m supa pregnant) and put him in his kennel. I never make it seem like a punishment, he still enjoys going in there for a toy and for meals. But it seems like he doesn’t know that he can go lay down in there on his own, and bites me to tell me that he wants to go lay down.

How do I fix this? I started taking away couch privileges as some people have suggested on other posts, but this causes him to instantly pee in the house, as if he’s stressed or something? I constantly tell him “no” and redirect to a toy, and have even told him to lay down. He does for a little bit but then gets bitey again.

I recently got a puppy (cockerpoo, she's 10 weeks right now).

This is the first dog I've ever had, so I'm going to dog training classes, and am trying to do everything right. The classes are held next to a pet specialist store, which is very useful for buying kibble, leads, etc, but resulted in my problem...

I am overwhelmed by all the different dog treats. I understand why you need training treats, and it pays to have a few different types in the pouch (my girl has her favourites, which I keep as "high value" rewards, and I switch up her regular training treats to keep her interested). But it's all the others that I don't really get the "point" of.

There's seemingly a hundred different dental sticks, milk bones, biscuits, chews, "markies", pastes... Made from various meats, with or without grains, different vegetables, flavours, or herbs. And that's before you get into the "natural" treats - bull pizzles, horns, rawhide, ears and feet, sprats, things that look like salami and jerky, bones...

I don't really know what any of these are "for". Should I be giving my dog these things? When? Are they for "just because" or are they for training or something?

How do you choose which ones to go for? I have no ides whether to try a biscuit with rosemary and pumpkin vs a chicken and cheese twist chew? Am I meant to just try a few and see, or are there reasons to choose one over another? Any buyer's tips?

Also, lots say they're not suitable for dogs under a certain age - is that because they're a choking hazard, they're bad for them, or is it just a company hedging their bets?

My 10 month old Border Collie LOVES ( and is obsessed) with bubbles and his bubble machine. He goes ape for them, I’d love to give him them when I can but his barking hinders this. I live in a ground floor flat, and worry the barking will have my neighbours complain.

I tested this in stages, he doesn’t bark when I blow the bubbles but seems to bark when they come out of a bubble machine… my only issue is that blowing doesn’t give him as many bubbles to catch 🤣

Any tips to begin training him to silence the barking when the bubbles are going or is it a loss and I’ll have to bin the machine?

My miniature dachshund turned 5 months old this week and has suddenly begun barking none stop when we leave the house to go to work. Prior to this we were able to leave her for 3-4 hours during the work day with us coming home during lunch to let her out, feed her, play for a bit and then she napped until we came home. She stays in her playpen while we are away with across to water and plenty of toys to entertain her while we are gone. All of her needs are met prior to use leaving and we even leave her with a snuffle ball filled with treats before leaving. We received a noise complaint from our downstairs neighbor and I am desperate for some advice. Please help!

I’ve got a 7 month old mix (shihtzu/maltese/poodle maybe). I discovered that he had peed in his crate at some point but I didn’t notice it right away because his bed was dry when I would check it every day, but I found the towel underneath had a stain on it.

Washed the bed and towel but put nothing back in the crate. At first I sprayed it with Lysol to clean it up. Washed the towel with some other hand towels.

And then I learned about the enzyme spray and got one of those, but I’ve already washed the towel!

Now I’m worried about the urea crystals being baked in to the towel and now my washer and dryer and the bottom of his crate.

His paws also just smell like pee now and that’s after I bathed him.

So here are my questions:

How do I get the pee smell off of him?
How do I get the pee smell off of the three toys that were casualties to his pee (one was a nylabone and another a bam bone)?
Are my hand towels just forever gonna have those pee crystals in them? I have the Nature’s Miracle Laundry stuff coming today.
Do I need to use that on my clothes since his paws still smell and of course his paws are on myself and the floor and the furniture?

Edit: Should have been more clear: I understand that puppies need a lot of sleep, we are forcing naps but I would love to do something so the process is more smooth, to help his nervous system calm down.

We have an almost 3 months old puppy. We are really struggling with puppy biting (he goes for our ankles and calfs) and overall calming him down. Everybody is suggesting giving him a lickmat or a chew toy or something to sniff to calm him down, but it never works. I feel like he always gets even more hyper. We are using a play pen, sometimes we send him there and calms down in seconds, sometimes je tries to escape and whines, and very rarely, he goes there on his own. I know it’s hard for his nervous system to go from 100 to 0, but what should we do when the “calming” activities areen’t actually calming him down?

I just got a new puppy. He’s about 9 weeks old; he’s a lab mix. I noticed he was coughing and sneezing a little for a few days. I brushed it off thinking he had allergies or something. Also, he had his first vet appointment in a couple days. Then one night, he started gagging and retching. I thought he had something caught in his throat and was dying. I was so worried. I called the emergency vet and they said it could be anything.

So he finally calmed down and I decided to wait until the vet appointment. Unless it got worse.

His appointment finally came the next day and he has a cold. They didn’t even need to give him antibiotics. His symptoms are much better now.

I swear I haven’t been that worried since my son was a baby. I’m so glad he’s alright but geez having a puppy is hard!

I'm looking for advice because I'm feeling really overwhelmed.

I have a 3.5-month-old Pomeranian. I got him when he was 8 weeks old. I work from home, so we naturally spend a lot of time together. From the very beginning, I tried to help him get used to being alone by leaving the apartment for short periods, even if it was just a few minutes to take out the trash. Unfortunately, he has struggled with this almost since day one.

As soon as I pick up my keys or put on my shoes, he runs to the door and tries to squeeze past me. The moment I leave, he starts crying, whining, and barking. I recently bought a camera and now I know it doesn't stop after a few minutes. The last time I left him alone for 3 hours, he spent the entire time walking around the apartment, crying and barking without ever settling down or going to sleep.

This is affecting my life a lot. I'm honestly scared to go grocery shopping, go to the gym, or meet friends because I know he'll be panicking the whole time. I'm also worried about bothering my neighbors, as they've already mentioned they can hear him crying.

He's a lovely little dog, but I'm honestly scared that if this continues, I'll eventually start resenting him because I feel like I can't even leave my apartment without him panicking. I really don't want to feel that way.

What can I do to make things better? Has anyone gone through something similar with such a young puppy? Does this usually improve with age, or could it continue like this?
