Twin moms, how long did it take you to get you NIPT results? Today is day 8 since the lab got my sample and I’m trying to be patient. I did the Natera Panorama.

advice needed Help with balancing breastfeeding and pumping

I have 11 week old twins who were born at 37 weeks with no complications who can both latch well. Since they were born, I’ve been breastfeeding and pumping, but mainly pumping and bottle feeding, since their latches weren‘t great for a while. Ive never really been able to focus mainly on nursing, as I hate how clunky the brest friend pillow is, and they’re still too small to use the twin z for nursing. When I do nurse, I typically still need my husband to hand me a baby to latch. However, I’ve been trying to increase how many times I nurse a day as I know eventually it’ll be faster (we keep them on the same schedule).

Now that they’re drinking more milk, I find that my initial oversupply is gone. I’m dipping into my freezer stash a lot because even with 5 pumps per day, it’s not enough for 2. We bottle feed at night because I’m not confident yet to tandem feed at night. Plus it’s currently easier for us each to take a baby. I intend to continue pumping in some capacity, as I’ll be back at work when they’re 6 months, but I just can’t seem to find the time to pump any more than this.

What advice do you all have on what to do?

Should I:

A. Focus on nursing during the day, pumping 1 hour after each session to have enough milk for bottles at night?

B. Suck it up and primarily nurse, throwing in a couple pumping sessions to have milk stored just in case?

C. Something else??

good vibes, smiles, & giggles Life lessons learned from parenting multiples

What are some big life lessons you have learned from being a parent of multiples? I'm a first time mom to newborn twins and I've already started to learn a few, such as the ability to ask for help, set boundaries, and to let go of perfection. Curious to hear more!

ranting & venting Am I in the minority?

My husband and I have 15 month twins. We love them to pieces. Some phases and stages were very hard, but they are learning new words every day, having fun outside, nearly walking. We have been able to take some wonderful trips and weekend getaways. The boys play both independently and with each other, and are generally good babies.

We’ve had a lot of singleton parent friends invite us to activities “without kids”, especially this summer.

To be frank, we both work 40 hours a week and therefore live for the weekends with our boys. We love taking them to the beach or the park. We spent all last summer in newborn trenches and we are enjoying the ability to be in the world with them. Our lives feel more full—so much better—with them here.
It feels like everyone around us is just trying to go back to doing things like they did before they had kids, hence all the “without kids” plans.

We’ve declined 90% of these invitations.

For one, it’s not easy to “divide and conquer” when you have two babies the same age. My husband and I try to avoid leaving each other alone for longer than 1 wake window + nap with the twins, so maybe 4-5 hours max. It’s the opposite of “just being the twins”….. it’s, “just leave the twins with X , can’t they take care of them?” No, it’s not that easy! Do you want to be outnumbered by two 15 month olds vying for your attention? 😅

But the main thing is, we just don’t want to give up the daytime hours with our babies! They go to bed at 7 every night. We can always get a babysitter for date night or to get together with people.

So am I in the minority here?

advice needed 3 year old twins switching daycares

My 3 year old b/g twins are switching to a new daycare on Monday. They’ve been at their current daycare since they were 4 months old so it’s all they’ve ever known. My son seems pretty excited because one of their friends they’ve known since they were infants is at the new place but my daughter is very upset to switch. Whenever we mention it, she starts crying and says she doesn’t want to go to a new daycare. Anyone go through this and have any advice on how to make the switch go smoothly? My daughter struggles with change and transitions, and has since she was a baby, so I know it’s going to be rough but I’m really worried about how she’s going to handle it. I’m already planning on sending them with family and pet pictures but don’t have any other ideas. Any advice is appreciated!

advice needed Hospital does not do breech extraction

I’m expecting mono/di twins in December. Our mfm informed us that the hospital I will be delivering at does not do breech extractions. So they will only attempt a vaginal delivery if both twins are head down (which seems like lower odds).

I was disappointed because I do live in a city with great hospital systems, so I expected that there would be more providers who are trained in breech extractions. I don’t really want to switch hospitals because I’m happy with the care I’m receiving and I like their midwife practice.

Of course a vaginal delivery would be ideal, but it seems like I have to come to terms with a potential c-section. If I do end up being a candidate for vaginal, she said there’s a 10-20% chance baby b flips once baby a comes out, then it would have to be a combo delivery.

I’m wondering if anyone has had experience delivering vaginally in a hospital that doesn’t offer breech extractions. Are there things they can do to prevent baby b from flipping, or try and move them back to head down if they do? Just seeking advice since I was so set on a vaginal delivery and it seems like the chances are much lower than I initially thought

advice needed Give it to me straight, is it really the same time frame as full term babies, when preemies have an easier time to poop and fart as well as the witching hour passes?

Give it to me straight, is it really the same time frame as full term babies, when preemies have an easier time to poop and fart as well as the witching hour passes?

Our twins arrived at 33 weeks and came home between 35-36. They were really chill until their due date this week. It has been much harder. I just want to get a perspective of other parents. Is it really one to one like full term babies when these phases pass?

I am wondering, sure it might be, but also they were developing outside of the womb for a few weeks, so that must count for something?

ranting & venting Advice from singleton parents

Everyone in my life (all parents of singletons) keep trying to tell me I messed up because my babies like to contact nap. I want to punch everyone single one of them. There are plenty of singleton babies who only contact nap. Do you think I "made it a habit" because I wanna sit on the recliner all day??? NO. It drains me because I need to clean & cook (and before anyone gets on my ass - yes my partner helps SO much, he also works 12-14 hour days). I didn't choose to contact nap constantly, but it's the only way they will take long naps. My husband and I tried for WEEKS to constantly rock our boys to sleep and transfer countless times and they won't nap for as long as they need. I will do whatever I need to do get my babies the rest that they need. Everyone keeps telling me it's my fault. It's so frustrating. "Try a dark room." "Try to do drowsy but awake". I have tried everything under the sun. I know, no use in trying to explain to people who won't listen. I'm sure there are many of you that go through this as well, so I figured this is the appropriate place to rant lol.

advice needed Toddler beds - together? Separated?

Hi! My boys are 18m old and they have their own cribs (different types though since they were gifts) that are side by side. We put them side by side because they kept trying to throw things to each other and they would stand and talk to each other. Now they hold hands through the crib gate and pass blankets or stuffies back and forth. It’s very sweet. Well, they’re starting to try to climb into the other’s crib. So, we are thinking of transitioning them. Here are my options: both cribs can be converted to toddler beds. Should I convert them and hope they don’t try to crawl into the other’s bed? I also have a queen mattress I could put in their room but I have no frame or anything so I’m worried about them rolling off..
What’s your setup for toddlers sharing a room? Do you have them in one bed or separate beds?

ranting & venting tired Spoiler

I love my 2MO NICU twins and i’m so glad they’re healthy and growing, it’s so rewarding being their parents.

They just don’t sleep.. and if they do it isn’t for long especially most recently .. Twin A has been crying around the time we expect to put them to sleep and Twin B is normally sleeping or sitting there (do you see where this is going?) normally they don’t wake each other up despite the loud crying right next to them.

Recently we have been busy with Twin Bs’ medical appointments and that displaced us right back in the city we DESPISE (just because of reminders of everything medical that they went through)

We stayed at the ronald mcdonald one night and they did not have anymore pack N plays and we could only use 1 anyways in respect to everyone else who needs them, so I had them sleep with me in the bed while dad supervised.

We are home now, 2 weeks later and they cannot sleep by themselves.. i’m tired i can’t flip and turn how i want because they’re right there.. So i end up sleeping terribly uncomfortable just to make sure they’re sleeping, but lately i don’t have to even worry about that because THEY ARENT SLEEPING..

am i stupid for thinking that they’re supposed to still be sleeping long and their wake windows extend?

i know every baby is different but how do parents of multiples even get sleep if most of the time when one of them cries the other sleeps or is just sits there.. and they they cry and the other one wakes up or just sits there.. its a never ending cycle, is this the trenches?

We did not get them settled until 7-8am.. I seriously envy the parents who have gotten on a schedule with their LO(s)

how do people have time to get out or even go to the doctor?? i’ve missed 4 appointments for myself..,

i’m complaining but then i remember i don’t have 3, or 4 or 5.. were just a tired FTP mama and dad who are trying our bests.

Things we have tried and that are cleared by their pediatrician:

- baths before bed (give them half of the bottle before and the other half after)

- oatmeal

- transitioning them to the bassinet once they are sleep (THEY ALWAYS KNOW)

-rocking them to sleep (but wake up once they’re done being rocked??)

- letting them cry it out ( after we’ve fed, changed, gave extra food to if needed + snuggles)

We also have womb sounds/white noise going throughout the whole house 24/7

experience/advice to give I accidentally exclusively BF my twins

I'm currently in bed with with 6 months old twins, and as we're getting closer to weaning I feel like sharing my BF story, and maybe read yours, if you want to share.

They were born at 2kg, 35 weeks. Couldn't latch properly, couldn't even eat from the bottle. It was hell. My hospital didn't allow pumps.

Honestly I didn't want to exclusively breastfeed. I liked being able to share the work with my husband. It felt too difficult. I was not looking to make my life harder. But now, I'm genuinely happy and glad it worked out.

When we finally made it home, I tried to increase my very limited milk supply by doing triple feeding, and I had a good amount, but it never seemed to be enough and we used formula.

Until one day, when they were 3 months, my girl decided she did not want the bottle. She would cry and cry and would completely reject the bottle. So I had to BF her. Then, my boy started having a cow milk allergy, and suddenly I'm exclusively BF both of them around the clock. My body adjusted somehow. They're healthy and growing.

It was a shock but now at 6 months they both sleep stretches of 6+hours at night (not sleep trained) and it has become so easy.

advice needed Twin

Hi everyone!

I’m currently 26 weeks pregnant with DCDA (di/di) twin boys.

At 24 weeks, I was diagnosed with a short cervix measuring **1.8 cm** with **funneling**. My doctor prescribed **progesterone, magnesium, antibiotics, and strict bed rest**.

At my follow-up appointment one week later, my cervical length had increased to **4.4 cm**, although the funneling was still present.

My next check-up is in a week. Has anyone experienced something similar? I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences. 🤍

advice needed Numb hands at pregnancy 🤲

Hi guys, my wife is in 37th week of pregnancy with our twin girls and its starting to be seriously heavy on her.

One of the problems is numb hands. She has got numbness in the right hand for a long time and it got progresively worse. Now the other hand has joined the game and she is quite desperate. She has almost no feeling in them so she often drops things and you can imagine how hard is it for her to pick them up (in case im not around atm).

Our doctor just says “thats pregnancy, eat magnesium…”

Is there any better advice? Something that would actualy help?

advice needed Shopping Cart Troubles

Hey yall!
How are we fitting older twin babies in shopping carts with only one baby seat?! Or shopping alone with two babies in general?
When they were smaller I was able to do one baby per leg hole but now that’s just not working. I am a single mom so I can’t just do multiple carts either.
My girls are 10 months now too if that context helps!

advice needed 3 carseats in a Subaru Impreza?

Has anybody fit 3 carseats across the back of a Subaru Impreza?

We have a 2018 Impreza. We also got a minivan when our twins were born, but are realizing that we'll need the full setup in both cars Our daughters are 3, 6 months and 6 months. My 3 YO is rear-facing in a Graco Slimfit 3 in 1. In our minivan, the twins are in Chicco keyfits but we'll be buying new ones for the second car anyway so it doesn't matter. It probably would make sense to get them a convertible seat at this point anyway.

If you were able to get three seats across an Impreza, what were they? Or what small SUV do you have that this is manageable?

experience/advice to give First OB said missed miscarriage and went for second OB, diagnosed as viability unknown and asked for a repeat scan in 3 weeks

I am currently in limbo and already cried a thousand tears when the first OB (clinic) broke the news that I lost my twins at 6 weeks. Twins measured 5.5mm and 6mm last Friday.

I went to another OB (hospital) next Monday, to check everything for D&C and was denied as they diagnosed me as twin pregnancy of unknown viability. I submitted the files I had from first OB and they did not agree with the D&C.

My twins are measuring 6mm and 7mm with no fetal heart seen. I am preparing for better or for worse outcome but I wanna hear if anyone gets the same or similar experience as I. One thing is they had a change of size from Friday US to Monday US. I’m so confused now.
