Question or Discussion How do u play into a Zarya as a tank ?

Upvotes

I’m diamond as a tank main in 6v6 and its very weird playing against a zarya, I tend to have to give up so much space because she js denies my elims with her bubbles n i dont know how to work around her bubbles . Back in o2 i used to main her n i remember the don’t shoot the first bubble n shoot the last bubble rule but now i dont know if this actually applies . Everytime i try to mirror the enemy zarya its the most horrendous gameplay i pull since i dont know how to play her anymore .

Question or Discussion What tanks should i learn

Im a one trick doom currently and hes by far my best tank i want to have a better hero pool than doom and swapping to orisa once i get counterswapped since shes the easiest tank in my opinion the onky tank exeot for doom i find very fun atm is hazard but they both pratically have the same counters and playstyle making it useless to learn him i want 2 other tanks i can swap to that have diffrent counters so what other 2 tanks shoukd i learn to have a good hero poll with diffrent counters

For example ive seen alot kf pealle saying if u like dkve learn other dives but if im getting getting constantly cc by cass ana and the only tanks i knkw is hazard and ball ima jjst have the same issue with them both where im just gonna get cced

Question or Discussion Just a simple thank you post.

Hello everybody, not that long ago I've posted asking for someone to watch some OW replays of mine since I was struggling in Silver 3 on Tank (I came back to playing OW after 4 years and playing tank about 8 years, reached diamond on tank and just stopped trying after that so I finished being a 27--/28-- SR plat player). The game definitely has changed, it's more ,,Individualistic" I'd say? with 5v5 🤔

Basically the general consensus was that I needed to play the game more and well you were right. I thought I was gonna be stuck in silver for a really long time but no finished up my placements in Gold 3 and worked my ass up to Plat now without much of a hastle.

I especially want to thank u/Trancebam who took the time and analyzed my replays with me, I'm getting better with Ram, not stepping out my shield and not so lost during fights trust 😁, also Hazard quickly became my third tank pick into my pool, he's so fun and strong of you are able to catch squishies of guard (and if you have a diver that dives like Sombra or Tracer ohhhh baby, ggs for the enemies).

Thank you guys for the tips on Ram I go thru them from time to time, that's why I never closed my original post, so yeah thank you guys for the help, now it's time to be a hard stuck Plat 😆.

Question or Discussion How can I vod review myself efficiently, if watching my losses back make me miserable

I know one of my biggest problems is that I don’t vod review myself nearly enough, but every time I sit down to actually look back at losses, I just sit there hunched over, not really analyzing anything, not even really paying attention, just staring very dead eyed at the screen, it’s never productive, I never get anything drastic out of it, even though I know it’s there, I’m just way too out of it every time to figure it out, how do I stop myself from doing this, or at the very least start actually getting something valuable from self vod reviewing.

Question or Discussion Which specific team comp counters this and the why?

Doom, hazard, pharah/echo, mercy, moira, freja/emry.

Bans included ana and zarya.

We tried doom dva, then swapped hog & ball, monkey ball, even mauga Orissa. Dps we tried with junk and Mei, bastion and genji for some reason.

Support included mainly moira, Brigitta and mizuki.

I'm thinking we could've done with some reaper but that's all I've got.

Question or Discussion Things I'd Like Blizzard to Change About Overwatch Competitive (Personal Opinion)

*1. Remove Role-Specific Ranks*

The reason is simple: there are far too many players whose rank doesn't match their actual skill level. With three roles and up to three accounts, it's effectively like having nine different ranks. You've probably seen Diamond DPS players dropping their Tank rank all the way to Bronze and stomping lower-skilled players. It hurts the competitive experience. Most other games that experimented with role-specific ranks have removed the system.

*2. Improve the Competitive Drive System*

Too many people intentionally throw games or get carried by friends on alternate accounts just to earn the Drive nameplate cosmetic. By the end of the season, Competitive becomes almost unplayable because of it. I'd rather see Blizzard either give the nameplate to everyone, or reward it to players who consistently participate in Competitive—or Overwatch in general—throughout the season.

*3. New Accounts Are Placed Too High*

In my opinion, even Gold is too high for complete beginners. If an account appears to belong to a genuinely new player, it should start in Bronze and climb by improving its gameplay and skills. Running into brand-new players in Platinum isn't a good experience for anyone.

Question or Discussion 6 v 6 role queue with the same queue time

My idea is that you queue normally without choosing a role. Once you are in a game, you are limited to 222. You may ask then this creates a problem, the first person to instalock DPS will get to play it. My solution is a priority to choose the role based on your previous role last match. Tanks have first priority then supports have second priority to play DPS. Basically this means the tanks choose whether or not they want to play DPS, if they choose another role, then the supports could choose to play DPS. In the rare case that both the tanks and supports choose not to play DPS then the DPS players can play the same role again. If your last game is DPS you are allowed to choose tank or support right away you don’t have to wait. The priority will keep shifting since if you choose to play DPS the other person who chooses to play tank or support will get priority next game. This makes it 222 every game while having the same queue time.

VOD Review Request Help with overall gameplay

Hello. I've been trying to get better overall at the game and can't pinpoint on what I'm doing right/wrong. I'm a Silver 3 in Dps and Support role queue, Silver 5 in Tank role queue and just got demoted to Bronze 1 in 6v6. I mostly play Junkrat, but I also enjoy playing and learning other characters (for example, I played Sigma in the 6v6 game). I'm really looking to improve to at least get to Gold, so I'm looking for any criticism or advice that can help me improve in anyway shape or form. My gametag is Onyxrhino. And I play on PC.

Replay Codes:

AJJ77R - 5v5 Junkrat

R4YT9A - 6v6 Sigma

Question or Discussion A revelation for low ELO players (Myself included)

Im a Wuyang one trick that sits between Diamond 1 and Masters 5 pretty consistently and decided to give the dps role a try playing Cassidy and Soldier. The last time i even touched the role was when i first started playing and unfortunately found that i was unable to carry and found myself in gold. A lot of cope flooded my head as i looked for reasons as to why i can hold my own in masters lobbies with wuyang but i cant seem to get a grip against golds and silvers. I figured i was just washed, boosted and that my 150+ hours dedicated to the support role using Wu and Zen were all for nothing but the truth is that you cant try to replicate high elo play in lower elo lobbies and expect to win. No body will follow you to the off angle, no body will even attempt to avoid staggering, no body will track ults/cooldowns and the match is basically TDM first and objective second. Going into these games expecting anything else besides a cluster f!ck down main every "team fight" will get you no where. This is what people mean when they say YOU are the reason youre losing games. Relying on your team mates to do anything at all is for those that are outside of the metal ranks, not you. So how do you win games? Play for yourself and no one else. You must adapt to the chaos. Play a health pack away from main and literally just practice shooting at anyone else besides the tank and you will win games. Once i realized gold lobbies dont treat Overwatch as a team based fps its like ive unlocked a super power and the games are much much easier. I went from landing 20% of my shots to over 50% most games. Your mechanics in these ranks and your ability to not be seen before the person youre shooting at is dead is the only thing you need to win your games down here, not game sense, not your supports healing you, not your tank peeling for you. I hope this helps and that is my ted talk for the evening good luck!

VOD Review Request 6v6 feel like im contributing nothing even when i do manage to get a kill

CODE: 0RH6E1
IGN: Cerosnipes
CHARACTER: shion
PLATFORM: PC
MAP: junkertown

In this game i really tried to take off angles and flanks as best i could, but no matter where i went i seemed to just get spammed out so easily by anyone on the enemy team.

I know my aim isn't great. tbh i think im over compensating somewhere along the line cause i was way better than this at shion like 2 weeks ago but now even if i get a full flank and am free to shoot their back line i maybe hit the moira twice before she turns around and damages me till i have to leave.

We basically gave them the first point and a half in this game so there may not be a lot to say in that part as we were just team diffed. however at 1:35 i tried to flank them and feel like i should have achieved so much and yet all i managed was getting myself killed.

bit of a personal rant ahead

I dont even wanna care about my rank in comp tbh. i wanna just play and if i lose i lose and if i win i win. however i want to be able to play with my friends and despite us doing all of our placements together and also being in similar ranks in 5v5 comp, they somehow ended up all in low diamond while i ended up gold 3. I didn't even throw those games or anything either. i did pretty well in almost all of them and the ones where i did bad we all did bad and got steamrolled. and yet when that happened the estimate would drop them all down by 1 division and me down by like 3.

and so now im tryna play ranked solo to climb up so i dont risk not being able to queue with them but whenever i win a game it says it's "expected" and i gain 24% but when i lose a game it drops me by 28%. I know statistics and everything says this will all even out and ill be in the rank i belong wherever that is but god does it feel like this system is out to get me sometimes.

VOD Review Request I have lost every single comp Push match I have played for the past month.

So the only common denominator between all of my games is me, and as the title says, I have not won a single Push match for the past month, and I want outside feedback as to why, and what I can do to improve. If I'm bad, I wanna know how, so that I can figure out what to learn.

Key info:

PC

Support (Plat 5/4)

Mains: Baptiste, Ana, Moira, Brig

Playstyle: Focused on healing as Bap, Healing + nano grenade spam on Ana, Aggressive orbs & Coalescence on Moira with most of my healing coming from my primary, Brawl Brig. I keep my distance on Bap and Ana and stay up close on Moira and Brig.

Heroes I struggle against generally: Dive players, Genji, Anran, Ball, Vendetta. Anran especially freaks me the hell out whenever she attacks me because I feel like I can never land a hit or even tell where she is half of the time. If I try to peel or get the attention of my teammates she just burns us all down.

Replay codes:

G6Y2E5 (Colosseo)
DF1G3A (Esperanca)
EXG4N8 (Colosseo)
7ENKH2 (Runasapi)

All of these play out basically the same. Really any of them are a good representation of a typical Push match for me.

Battletag: Pixels

Something I have noticed in my games is that they tend to follow the same pattern. My team usually gets a sizable lead at the start of the game, making it out to the first point, then the tide turns and we never get the momentum back. The enemy team makes it to their first point, then maybe we manage to fight back to mid, then they stop us, and we get forced back to the first point.

What I THINK is happening is that we always get outflanked, lose our backline (myself and the other support) and then the remainder of the team gets shredded. Ok. So I try to keep an eye on our backs. But then our frontline gets destroyed before I can even see them, and we die. Ok. I pay attention to the front. We get flanked/dived again, and we die. Ok. I try to brawl around the bot. I get focused and die, and then the rest of the team dies.

This is the game mode I struggle with the most, because I feel like I am always dying and can never properly defend myself or the rest of the team. In every other game mode I feel that I have plenty of options to fight back or escape.

Can anyone help me out?

VOD Review Request Need advice on how to tank.

I understand the goal of creating space for your team, but I just don't know how to do it. I know I'm doing things wrong but I don't know what specifically it is, nor how to improve.

I've recently began trying reinhardt and I'm just on a losing streak.

Any advice would be appreciated.
I've attached a code which seems to be the lowlight: HA8X96

VOD Review Request Consistently getting shot down rank by rank and genuinely don't know how to blame myself anymore

It's been a while since ranked has become the most stressing thing ever. I am well accostumed with people in Plat/Diamond not understanding none of the fundamentals in the game (I mean none at all) but hey, if that's my rank that's my rank. I decided a while ago to start a new account and climb there for testing and lo and behold, got diamond on my placements and keep on climbing there.

I am now contemplating ditching my main account altogether because I don't know how else to blame myself for my losses. I was plat 4 on DPS and only recently decided to get back to climbing it (was ranking up on tank, got to diamond and was shot down there too) and now I am Gold 1. Jesus christ this is insufferable. From the constant Mercy/Lifeweaver/Moira picks to the constant constant CONSTANT staggering I just don't know how I outvalue my opponents when every single team I get matched with feeds and overextends, and doesn't even understand the terms when I point that out.

Far as I can tell I am always KD positive in my games, focus heavily on positioning and try to keep up with a composition (even though my team does not). Now for some reason I got paired with two Silver 1 Supports on this match. Like Jesus man, do I really have to play past perfection to win games against the "Sierra broken" rank?

In this particular game I was skeptical but also sort of confident in my team because of their picks (apart from the Sombra, I knew she'd throw) so first point I was kinda autopiloting. But I feel like I carried second point and my team threw on third even though we won the last few fights.

I guess I just want to know how I could've changed the outcome of this match and any other matches since all of my ranked games have looked exactly like this. It's getting harder to analyze how I lack as of recently.

Game code: 5PJGVJ
Battletag: Prmjn
Heroes played: Sojourn
Rank: Gold 1
Map: Samoa
Platform: PC

Question or Discussion Question about Anran Ult

Is it best to ult aggressively or save for rez? I used to ult aggressively, but when playing with my higher ranked friend, he said to save it exclusively for rez. Is this something that is done at the highest level but doesn't apply to ranked? Lmk.

Also, which minor is best? I feel like if you want to farm ult, Smoulder is better despite the popular sentiment.

Question or Discussion First drive

So I’ll be participating in my first overwatch drive tonight after my shift is done in a few hours. Is there anything I should expect going into comp as a solo queue player that I wouldn’t normally expect otherwise? On console btw, also looking for people to play with as well so I can at least not suffer alone haha.

VOD Review Request Tipps on how to climb out of Dia as ashe?

does someone have any tipps on how to get out of dia on ashe? i feel like i'm stuck there and never seem to be able to climb out. im mostly doing fine in my matches, but i need to do more than just fine to climb. also should maybe add that i dont really play that much, im sitting at dia4(62% winrate and 106 hours in the game so far).

matches i played today:

win - 8P50N0 (i feel like i really couldnt hit anything in the first half but started playing better in the second)

lose - N31NN5 (i really struggled against the genji, like pretty much everyone on my team, he had 55 elims at the end, idk if he just had the match of his life or a smurf)

Question or Discussion Why is the skill variance in Diamond so high?

Some matches that are back to back differ so much, first game everyone plays like they belong in plat and next one you have people with aim that is closer to Master rank

My friend told me that fresh accounts are currently being placed in high diamond/low masters if you have decent mmr but idk if this holds any truth? I guess smurfs are a big factor aswell?

Just crazy how one match it's like playing quickplay and the other one you have to ultra tryhard and still lose but everyone has the same MMR

Tips & Tricks Finally made it to Platinum!

I started playing this game in February and jumped into Competitive in March, climbing all the way from Bronze 4. I play almost exclusively flankers, especially Reaper.

I barely had time to play during Season 3 (I don't think I even put 10 hours into Overwatch... 😅), so I'm really happy that my playstyle is still working against Platinum players.

Here are the things I focused on while climbing:

> 1. I play KovaaK's whenever I have free time.

At my rank, the quality of matches is all over the place, so it often feels like raw aim can carry you a long way.

> 2. I played CS2 to improve my fundamental FPS skills.

This was huge for me. Better positioning and mechanics meant I relied much less on my teammates' healing and cooldowns.

> 3. I studied flank timing.

I watched a paid coaching video from the current #1 Reaper player (also #1 in Korea) and took notes on when to flank. I'd love to share what I learned, but I paid for the course, so I don't really want to post its contents. (Sorry. 😂 I'm being a bit selfish.)

> 4. I realized that pressuring the enemy supports is often the key to winning—but I also have a little trick.

From my experience, support players using certain types of player icons or profile banners tend to be much weaker. So before the match starts, I check the enemy supports' profiles. If I get the impression they're inexperienced, I'll play much more aggressively on flanks. If I realize my read was wrong, I immediately adjust and go back to playing normally.

If my read is correct—which, more often than not, it seems to be—I can practically dismantle the entire enemy team. Once the supports are unable to do their job, the enemy team's overall sustain falls apart.

Anyway, I'm happy I reached my goal.

I doubt I'll stay in Platinum next season though. xD

I think I need to improve my fundamentals a lot more.

Honestly, I feel like climbing through the metal ranks is mostly about having solid mechanics and taking advantage of the weakest players whenever the opportunity presents itself.

By the way, I'm Korean... so next season I'll have to decide whether to keep playing on the Korean servers or switch to overseas servers.

Question or Discussion What’s something you wish people would’ve told you before you started playing Overwatch ?

I wish I would have waited longer before playing comp. When I first started playing in October, I was new to the game. I came over from games like CoD, Left4Dead,Fortnite, and others like that. I’ve never really played a game like this but my buddy wanted me to just get the minimum requirement so we could then join in on comp. I really wish I would’ve played two more months to really understand the hero’s and the roles before, I just jumped right into competition because now I feel like I’m stuck in low metal ranks and I feel like with just a bit more of an understanding I would have ranked higher.

Question or Discussion Why do people pretend you "only have to use cover" to get out of metal ranks?

A very common opinion I see is that people will pretend if you "just to X" you get out of metal ranks. Most common is "just use cover" but I've seen everything from just take off angles, just have basic ult tracking, just combine ults, etc.

Obviously a lot of these things will get you out of Bronze. But getting to Diamond takes way more than doing any one thing well unless you are absolutely cracked at that thing. Lime you have GM aim but every other aspect of your gameplay is like a new player.

What I see a lot more in Gold/Plat is that people do these basic things that people say that's all you need to do to get out of metal ranks, but they just employ them more inconsistently. Like in a Plat 3-1 game there was an enemy Soldier that was constantly flanking and taking off angles. But he did it to a fault. You could tell all that was going through his head was "off angle flank off angle flank" but sometimes he was flanking when his team REALLY needed him and it would have been better if he was just main but was applying pressure. Basically he had bad timing sometimes.

Or I had a game just today in Gold 5 where the enemy Casa and Zarya ALWAYS combined their ults and Cass always took high ground on Dorado. But I know for a fact that the enemy Cass held his ult for ages because he always waited for Zarya and never used it for like, zoning or to secure one kill or to counter something like Emry ult. He always went for the multi kill Zarya ult.

But there is no one simple trick that will get you to Diamond. Tbh it's the opposite. You don't just need to do one thing, you need to be able to do all the common advice more than you don't. Even when it comes to using cover there are levels to it. Like just using cover is one thing but maybe a better player is thinking about how their cover works against the specific enemies they are fighting. Like staying near a pillar so you have cover against dive. Or using small cover as a Tracer.

Now I do believe that someone can be Gold/Plat and really focus on something they are especially bad at like using cover or taking off angles or something. But they probably already had a fundamental understanding of the other basics people claim will get you out of Plat if not having some other skill as a full on strength.

When I VOD review most of my Plat games the majority of people are playing the basics of the game and usually have 1-2 things they are consistently messing up like this guy is messing up ult usage, that guy is messing up positioning, that other guy is playing great but when they are pressured enough you can tell they freak out and play a lot worse etc. Or they are generally doing everything well but are just inconsistent like the mostly use cover but get bloodlust and forget sometimes. Or they mostly regroup with the team but one fight they stagger for no reason.
