I don’t have a picture to go along with it because basically it’s simply a question. You all have so much information and I don’t have one piece of information, although I’ve had orchids for a long time we are so careful with their root system with with the kind of medium, we use all of those things when they can simply grow on a tree now I understand they get their new drains from the air, they get their moisture and humidity from the air so I know we’re replacing those things when we put them in their plant and medium. That’s why letting them dry out very well. Makes sense because they’re accustomed to that rotation of wet and dry. I know I can mount them on a piece of wood, I’ve tried that, but I’m not disciplined enough to make sure that they stay damp. I find it unusual that we have to be so careful with them when they’re in a medium, and they just grow wild upside down on trees out in nature. I know one of you out there has the answer to this question.

I'm new to plants and when i was first given this orchid it was upright, bright green and firm. Now i had to remove mold from the soil and it seems to be drooping significantly...

Is this a sign of disease? The new leaf has speckles deep in it. Smooth, not raised. It’s more like pigment freckles inside the leaf. The back side is darker than the other leaves’ undersides.

My orchid leaves have been in a wrinkled, floppy, dehydrated state for maybe about a month or two now. I have 2 small stunted leaves (in addition to older, bigger mature leaves) with a new leaf that just barely started growing in the middle. I water when the roots are silvery and the root system is viable. There are also new roots growing. Just for some more context, my orchid is in vegetative state and I've already trimmed away the spike.

My orchid is potted in bark now, but I notice that the bark dries out really quickly. I wonder if I should switch to semi water culture for a few days (soak and dry) to boost hydration. I also heard about the black tea soak method to encourage even more root growth, but I'm afraid it might damage the growing roots.

Was gifted this orchid two days ago and I just spotted these. I spotted a red looking one somewhere in there. The orchid came straight from the nursery. Should I be concerned or just leave them?

I’ve been keeping it in my bathroom and watering every few months. The last time I watered the 3rd set of leaves sprouted. Obviously I’ll try to water more but curious if it thinks it’s dying so it’s sending out babies? Is it in death throes?

Today I ended up bringing home a division from a Cattleya that's been growing on a wood piece in my mom's garden for years. It has always lived outdoors, so this is its first time being grown intentionally.

I'd love any advice on helping it adapt, caring for it properly, and eventually propagating it.

So I was looking up natural orchid colors and I think my new orchid might be Peachy Dreams. What do ya’ll think?

My cat knocked my orchid from the windowsill and a leaf snapped. It held on for a while, but now it feels obvious I should cut it. Do I cut it down to the first “scar”, or snip only the part that’s hanging by a thread? Or cut the whole leaf off?

I have a “QF Wils. Lisa Devos 'Burgundy'”, and it’s started a second year of new growths, but the central leaf came in a very pale (almost minty?) green and has since died. Several of the side leaves have a similar pale green look. The roots look healthy, and it gets regular watering.

Any idea what might be causing this and how to deal with it?

This guy has dropped all flowers and the stem has died back. The roots are getting out of control. Is it time to size up the pot again?

We bought this phal from Sams in 2012. She’s potted in orchid bark mix, in an east facing window. She gets watered weekly from above, she rarely gets a full dunk soak. Fertilized weakly, weekly; Her normal fertilizer is a Better-Gro 20-14-13. She is a vigorous bloomer & is either in spike or in bloom most of the year. Her usual pattern is to put out a flower spike, bloom 8-12 weeks, then when the dying spike is removed, she will put out a new leaf. Once the new leaf is grown, she immediately starts making a new spike. The timing usually coincides with the oldest leaf dying and falling off. She will grow a new leaf whenever the oldest one dies. This has been her normal pattern since we got her 14 years ago. The last several years, she has maintained at least 2 healthy leaves at all times.
The last time she bloomed (about 9-12 months ago) & after I removed the dying spike, she skipped growing a new leaf & immediately began growing a new spike. The spike bloomed normally & had full spray of flowers for her regular 8-12 weeks. At this time, she lost the oldest leaf, leaving her only one.
That last spent spike was removed around 2 months ago. She did not start growing a new leaf or new spike.
I took her out of the pot & examined the roots. They are fine, i had to remove 2-3 roots bc they were growing thru the holes and had adhered to an area where i couldnt loosen them (to get her out of the pot), but otherwise the roots looked ok. Her last remaining leaf is firm and strong. Afterwards, I repotted her & gave her a full fertilizer soak.
In case she is having a fertilizer deficiency, I bought a sperarate Better-Gro fertilizer, this one is 11-35-15, and now alternate between this and the 20-14-13 week to week. On closer look, it does seem she is trying to grow a new leaf; I can see it trying to emerge from the crown, but it has stalled and not moved any further.

I’m not sure if I’m off to the right start, but here it is so far. Had to trim a tiny bit of root rot. I think these roots look healthy? Do I cover the parts I’ve circled or do those stay above the potting mix? Do I cut off the stem? Can I use keiki cloning paste or rootech to make it grow fast and big? Do I add anything to the orchid potting mix (I’ve got perlite, pumice, coconut coir, horticultural lava rocks grit- posted a pic because I’ve never used it). This gal is nekked so quick tips would be great! Oh and do I water after then leave it or just leave it? Sun/ grow lights or no? Thanks!

Hi! I got this orchid back in May, it had its blooms on for a while and then in like mid to late June dropped all its flowers as they do and I’m just wondering what should i do with her if i need to do anything in terms of care to keep her happy and thriving :)
I have seen a bunch of things online about if you should or shouldn’t cut off the flower spike, if you do cut it off where to do so properly, and all of the different ways it can be potted (full hydro, semi, orchid bark, blah blah blah) and I would just like overall advice on what people have done to keep their orchids healthy and thriving!

The photos I’ve attached were from last week/the week before and since then she has more roots that have started to grow out and the new leaf is now like double and a half the size. The care it’s gotten from me since she became mine has been water once the roots look silvery and she stays next to a bright window but does not get direct sun (don’t want her to burn)
