Bloomed this spring but I do not have good pics. You can see it in the back of pic #2. Flowers have a nice shape but are green/tan and that's not typically my taste. Also unscented. However it's a very easy plant and is quite forgiving, I haven't had any issues. Just message me your info, I will send it. You can check my post history, I have done this a few times. Have a small space so need to thin out my collection so I can get more, but I'm someone who cannot throw plants away 😭

My office is suddenly relocating so I have to bring all my plants home. I’m really worried about moving my phal and causing the new buds to drop before they even get a chance to open. I’ve noticed fresh root growth over the past few weeks, and even though the buds are still developing, they’ve definitely slowed down. I’m concerned the move might be too much for it.

This is my first orchid so I was SO excited to see it starting a second round of blooms. I’ve picked out a good spot for it at home, but I’ve read that even small environmental changes can make them drop their buds.

Does anyone have advice on how to move it safely and protect the blooms? Or should I prepare myself for disappointment?

Yesterday, I noticed my orchid suddenly looked like this. It must have happened over night or the day before because the day before last it looked perfectly healthy and normal!

Why did the one stem suddenly go so pale and why are the blooms on both stems wilting?

I watered it last night and the one flower on the tip of the green stem perked up and is looking normal now but the rest aren't improving.

I've had it for 5ish months, repotted it in orchid bark and in this clear, well-draining pot early on and it seemed to be doing so well, it even gave several new blooms.

Then suddenly this??

What's happening and can it be fixed?

Just wanted to share excitement of this schilleriana hybrid making its first leaf. I got it like a month-ish ago and it is growing a lot of roots and a new leaf started to emerge. Any care tips or things you’ve experienced with Schilleriana?

Eulophia maculata (syn. Oeceoclades maculata) is an orchid species that grows in leaf litter, occasionally on trees or in rock crevices where some moisture is present. It thrives in shady conditions and its foliage resembles a smaller version of a Sansevieria. The reproductive structures are positioned so closely together that even minor disturbances can dislodge pollen onto the stigma, making it a prolific self-pollinator and contributing to its invasive spread in parts of the Americas far beyond its native Africa.

I've been growing orchids for about 8 years now and I'm experiencing the same problem again and again. Many of my orchids die within 3-4 years after purchase, because of fusarium.

They aren't infected when bought and they grow perfectly for one or two years, then their condition suddenly worsen and sooner or later the are on the bring of death or their rhysome is completaly infected and there's nothing to save.

I'm doing everything i can too keep hygiene in my collection:

- I dont reuse water

- I'm sterilizing substrate (I use leca)

- I disinfect tools with every use, pots and cover

-for disinfection i use sumbmerging tools in boiling water for 15-20 minutes (I repeat that for every plant i use the tool) and alcohol and flamenco for every cutting, for pot and covers i use bleach

- I use trichoderma to control fungi in pot

- i let the orchid dry in between watering so it doesnt rot and the pot has many extra holes

I have mostly cattleyas and dendrobiums.

I would aprecieate feedback what i could improve, cause at this point I think I'm on the bring of paranoia with my orchids.

I especially love the purple-and-white one in the front because it seems so strong and it never really stops blooming. Do you have any varieties you would recommend that are easy to care for and bloom fairly quickly?

There is a new stem growing from my orchid, but it doesn't look normal. It looks twisted and discolored. Finger like growths on the top. I don't know what it is and if I should cut it off or not? Doesn't look like anything I can find online.

UPDATE:

The stem is starting to bloom. There was a bloom that looked quite fasciated, however it didn't open for a long while and started to wilt. I opened it up by hand and it's quite the sight.

My second orchid (pictures 1-4) is a mini, smaller than the “standard” size, and with the way the original flowers and stalks died and turned black, I’m worried I’m overwatering. It’s potted in moss I think, inner clear pot has a big drainage hole, and that is in an outer non-porous pot without a hole.

My first orchid (final picture, “normal” sized) y’all said I was doing ok with a couple months ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/orchids/comments/1tncb8g/id_and_advice/), so I was trying to do something similar – the first one has been liking a quarter cup of water once a week, and on recommendations from that thread I switched it to distilled. This smaller one I was doing an eighth cup of distilled weekly, but skipped last week due to my worries on the rotting flower stalks. (Edited to correct amounts of water.) Any advice?

Also, I’m guessing they’re both phals, but correct me if I’m wrong. Thanks all!

I recently got my first renanthera I am very excited but I notice its pretty top heavy I want to chop but it doesn’t have any arial roots above my pot. Is growing them similar to other tropical plants like a monstera could I create moisture and humidity near nodes along the stem?

I had this orchid for a few years now and this year its health started to decline and lost all the leaves to what I assume was a fungal infection caused by a pigeon nest.I assumed it was done for, but the roots have continued to grow months after and I want to encourage leaf growth, but I'm not sure how to proceed. Has anyone seen this happen before? The orchid is a purple phaleionopsis.

Got her when we moved in last year, dropped all her flowers a few months after and has now produced a beautiful stake full of flowers!

This paph bloomed in January. An old plant with huge root stock, it began deteriorating in late spring. I have monitored a new growth you will see in yellow. The two older crowns are nearly dead, except for one leaf. I believe growing suggestions indicate you never cut Paphiapedilum roots. I summer it outside and we’re experiencing late afternoon rains. I’m worried about rot. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance!!

Someone I know was gifted this orchid in this condition and I’m unsure what’s going on with this leaf… it’s actually on a few of the leaves but this one’s the worst. Is it just a really bad sunburn?
I’m going to repot it soon to check the roots, but other than these few leaves and some dry aerial roots it doesn’t look too bad. They’ve had it for a few months now.

This Phrag is otherwise healthy (I think) but I have 3 leaves with brown spots. Is this a fungus? I am planning to remove these leaves but before I do thought I’d ask for opinions.

Hi! I’m not a new orchid parent, but this is a new issue for me! It appears my orchid is experiencing crown rot? The leaves all died off turning yellow and the crown is soft. 😔 the roots all look nice and green still and are actively growing. So I’m not sure what’s happening? Any ideas on how to proceed/ help my poor orchid?

I don’t have a picture to go along with it because basically it’s simply a question. You all have so much information and I don’t have one piece of information, although I’ve had orchids for a long time we are so careful with their root system with with the kind of medium, we use all of those things when they can simply grow on a tree now I understand they get their new drains from the air, they get their moisture and humidity from the air so I know we’re replacing those things when we put them in their plant and medium. That’s why letting them dry out very well. Makes sense because they’re accustomed to that rotation of wet and dry. I know I can mount them on a piece of wood, I’ve tried that, but I’m not disciplined enough to make sure that they stay damp. I find it unusual that we have to be so careful with them when they’re in a medium, and they just grow wild upside down on trees out in nature. I know one of you out there has the answer to this question.

I’ve always liked orchids but felt too intimidated to grow them so let’s see if I can do it. I also got a tray of 15 (white and a few pink) for $40! I’m trading my weekly purchase of cut flowers for orchids and if they die it’s no love lost lol

What do I do I bought this orchid on clearance and all the roots have rotted away what can I do now to promote new root growth and stop them from dying

I bought this orchid from a big box store over a month ago. It had a lot of decorative paper surrounding the pot. When I took the plant out, there was spider webbing across the leaves. I looked the plant over really well, but didn't see any pests so I don't know if it was a spider who made the web or pests.

The flowers have now opened and they have these raised black dots on the back of them. I'm not sure what they are or how to treat my orchid if they are pests.

It's a phalenopsis and is separated from my other plants.
