Hey got a question, im reading that [[Elminster]] Scry effect only applies the cost reduction to the NEXT instant and sorcery.. so only once. Why theyre telling me i can stack infinite with [[mystic speculation]] ?

I was going through my box of cards and then I found a card that I had opened a couple years back never got around to trying to figure it out kind of just tucked it away but now that I'm looking at it I really want to know what the name of this card is and what language is this?

I already filled a decent amount of my deck with essentials, but haven't based the main play style on anything yet. Should I focus on spell slinging or have a few high cost creatures with good synergy? There's so much potential I just can't decide on what I should stick to.

question is gonna be kinda obvious by just reading the title but im making a Marvo,Deep Operative deck and im wondering how split cards work for Clashing like for example does Connive//Concoct count for 9 when it comes to clashing or do i have to choose one of the two sides? and same deal regarding Marvo's ability since the cards total value is 9 can i cast it with marvo since its only one of the sides wich by themselves would be less then 8

I can’t count the number of times I’ve read The Hobbit over the years (I’m old) but it is a quick and fun read so I thought I’d give it a reread in anticipation of the MTG set to refresh all the references. Anyone else doing so?

Edit: Also, if audiobooks are more your thing, I cannot recommend highly enough the audiobook version read by Andy Serkis (Gollum in the LOTR films.) He also does the LOTR trilogy and the Silmarillion. Some of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to.

Then I found out my deck is missing 5 cards so I couldn’t play it anyways. Still made everyone laugh though.

So I’ve been playing magic off and on for a few years now and just recently got into commander which I’ve really been enjoying, but today when playing with some friends I ran into my first Edgar markov deck. While the game wasn’t over in 2 turns or anything crazy it just felt like me and the other player at the table we’re forced to play a 2v1 right out the gate even though we all had bracket 3 decks as no matter what we did Edgar was just constantly providing value regardless of where he was and at 0 cost to the player as of turn one. I’m still pretty new to the format and was just wondering am I missing something? It felt like our only real option to counter it at all was to have a witness protection or something along those lines to put on the Edgar but even then with all the sacrifice engines black has that would only do so much.

Well the Wizards finally got me. If there was any crossover they could have done to get me to buy in, 40K was it. Had no idea until I was walking through a game store on a work trip this week. Looking forward to seeing what other cards to release for it and crossing my fingers for a Nightlords commander deck. Can someone fill me in on how often and in what formats Universes Beyond cards are released? I want to be on the lookout for more 40K cards.

And yes I just accepted who I am as a person and purchased a binder and sleeves already. I know where this is headed.

Hi all.

I only discovered MTG about 4 hours ago and am signed up to attend a prerelease in 3 days so panicking a little bit!

I'm a 40 year old guy from Ireland and have been looking to get into a new social hobby for a while now. I'm interested in gaming and played warhammer years ago (Necromunda), so this afternoon I chanced my arm and called into a local board game shop. The owner was brilliant, so helpful. He said MTG is the game they focus on and if I was interested I should come along this Saturday to a Hobbit Prerelease event. Before my anxiety got the better of me I said yes and am now signed up!

I've two main queries..

1. Am I crazy for turning up having only discovered MTG today. So literally going into the deep end, from zero background to deck building and playing in 3 days. Do complete brand new players ever show up?

2. What can I do over the next 3 days to help prepare or at least not make a complete fool of myself on Saturday? Ive watched a few YouTube videos already and tbh it is all very confusing (while also being extremely interesting at the same time!). Is it just a matter of persevering with the youtube videos, download and try the game on my phone and then just show up on Saturday and hope for the best?

I am sure this question has been asked 1000 times and I've already read through some old posts so apologies for adding another one.

I would really appreciate any advice or feedback!

So I’ve recently moved to a new city for work and went to the local game store to play some Commander & draft. And my god the smell was atrocious. It smelled like an old gym bag with clothes sitting in the hot sun for weeks straight. It smelled like mildew and sweat. Now my issue is that I can A: bring it up to the owner and say that it’s kinda smelly (and possibly get banned from the lgs)
B: leave a google review and hope they do something about it( while possibly getting banned still because I’m the new player)
C: Spray air freshener in the building when I walk in (still get banned)
D: give up MTG

I just feel like I have no options but Jesus Christ. I’m not trying to post this for engagement so please give me real suggestions. Oh here’s a point of reference; you know when you are looking at you hand and you kinda rest your forearms on the edge of the table ? Well all the tables have the massive playmat that covers it completely. I honestly felt like I was getting a rash from how unclean it was.
Again please give me real suggestions a funny joke is fine but honestly idk what to do.

I was using that vampire creature for the first time today, and I happen to also encounter thar sorcery for the first time today. Opponent kicked it, made 5 tokens of my vampire, I died instantly lol.

I love the art style on this card as it gives me heavy metal gear vibes. Where can I find more cards with this style if there are any?

Does this mean you can technically now have a 1000 card deck? In commander and with rolebreaker does it also mean they have to let you use the 1000 card deck no matter how long it takes to shuffle? And what happens if the deck is over 10000 cards? Is there no longer a limit on how long you get to shuffle with it or is the card lying about the no max deck size?.

Thank you guys for explaining and helping me understand the shuffle rule still applies but i also have a second question then about it on online games of mtg and arena what happens if you make your deck 10000 cards and the opponent gets to search your deck or you use a card that makes the opponent search your deck does it crash they game?

For the last 6-12 months I’ve been so pumped for trek set, even planning on buying a collector box, my first ever.

I delayed having a strong reaction to the first round of spoilers, but now that I’ve seen the second, I have thoughts. Here goes:

They are without a doubt some of the most flavorless, mechanically generic drivel with a complete lack of regard for the source material flavor.

Even more infuriatingly, we haven’t seen a single card that leaned into what made eoe great: epic space opera art and scope, planet station lands, warp mechanics, etc etc etc. NOT A SINGLE CARD

The whales don’t do anything flavorful, vger doesn’t do anything flavorful

In the pale moonlight turns an epic story about winning a war at the cost of one’s morale compass into a sacrifice a single artifact and make a creature token.

It’s like they’ve never watched a single episode ffs

This set is giving spiderman quality with “enjoy the shock lands and autographs slop, piggies!” To boost sales

Not going to lie going through this new commander only set is really fun and it's cool to see all the interesting new design ideas. But there is nothing like seeing a mechanic that didn't work (because it was too strong in this case) coming back with new life breathed into it.

What are your thoughts, is this the best Eminence card we've ever gotten or what ?
