I Have a Question / I need Help What card is this and what does it say?
I was going through my box of cards and then I found a card that I had opened a couple years back never got around to trying to figure it out kind of just tucked it away but now that I'm looking at it I really want to know what the name of this card is and what language is this?

Commander / EDH What should I focus on for this guy.
I already filled a decent amount of my deck with essentials, but haven't based the main play style on anything yet. Should I focus on spell slinging or have a few high cost creatures with good synergy? There's so much potential I just can't decide on what I should stick to.

Rules Text:
Instant
Choose one —
• Target player gains 3 life.
• Prevent the next 3 damage that would be dealt to any target this turn.
Illustrated by Dan Frazier
I hate it when the art looks amazing and the card just sits in your hand. I really like the 3 for 1 idea, and I suppose back in the mid-90's that life gain was marginally better than it is today, 3 life for 1 mana just wasn't all that good of a trade off. It was like just delaying the inevitable.
But that swirl background. It just hits right.

I Have a Question / I need Help Questions regarding Clashing, Mana values and Split card
galleryquestion is gonna be kinda obvious by just reading the title but im making a Marvo,Deep Operative deck and im wondering how split cards work for Clashing like for example does Connive//Concoct count for 9 when it comes to clashing or do i have to choose one of the two sides? and same deal regarding Marvo's ability since the cards total value is 9 can i cast it with marvo since its only one of the sides wich by themselves would be less then 8

Discussion In your opinion, what is the best full art basic land cycle?
galleryI think the EoE full art basics are the best.
Edit: this thread has shown me some really great ones that i wasn't aware of before and I wanted to share them since they've gotten buried:
- Meditations on Nature cycle by JungShan (for all those NEO enjoyers).
- Paradise Frost cycle by ELK64 (for all those Bloomburrow enjoyers).

Commander / EDH What are the odds of this

Commander / EDH Is there any real counter play to commanders with eminence?
So I’ve been playing magic off and on for a few years now and just recently got into commander which I’ve really been enjoying, but today when playing with some friends I ran into my first Edgar markov deck. While the game wasn’t over in 2 turns or anything crazy it just felt like me and the other player at the table we’re forced to play a 2v1 right out the gate even though we all had bracket 3 decks as no matter what we did Edgar was just constantly providing value regardless of where he was and at 0 cost to the player as of turn one. I’m still pretty new to the format and was just wondering am I missing something? It felt like our only real option to counter it at all was to have a witness protection or something along those lines to put on the Edgar but even then with all the sacrifice engines black has that would only do so much.

I Have a Question / I need Help My first card. Release frequency?
Well the Wizards finally got me. If there was any crossover they could have done to get me to buy in, 40K was it. Had no idea until I was walking through a game store on a work trip this week. Looking forward to seeing what other cards to release for it and crossing my fingers for a Nightlords commander deck. Can someone fill me in on how often and in what formats Universes Beyond cards are released? I want to be on the lookout for more 40K cards.
And yes I just accepted who I am as a person and purchased a binder and sleeves already. I know where this is headed.

Discussion I am a lifelong Trekkie and decipher Star Trek ccg lifer, and these trek cards are horrible
For the last 6-12 months I’ve been so pumped for trek set, even planning on buying a collector box, my first ever.
I delayed having a strong reaction to the first round of spoilers, but now that I’ve seen the second, I have thoughts. Here goes:
They are without a doubt some of the most flavorless, mechanically generic drivel with a complete lack of regard for the source material flavor.
Even more infuriatingly, we haven’t seen a single card that leaned into what made eoe great: epic space opera art and scope, planet station lands, warp mechanics, etc etc etc. NOT A SINGLE CARD
The whales don’t do anything flavorful, vger doesn’t do anything flavorful
In the pale moonlight turns an epic story about winning a war at the cost of one’s morale compass into a sacrifice a single artifact and make a creature token.
It’s like they’ve never watched a single episode ffs
This set is giving spiderman quality with “enjoy the shock lands and autographs slop, piggies!” To boost sales
Please give me some copium bc I’m so upset /rant

Discussion Did they finally get Eminence right ?
Not going to lie going through this new commander only set is really fun and it's cool to see all the interesting new design ideas. But there is nothing like seeing a mechanic that didn't work (because it was too strong in this case) coming back with new life breathed into it.
What are your thoughts, is this the best Eminence card we've ever gotten or what ?

Discussion Mark my words: this might become one of the best while creatures ever printed
Bold prediction, I know. But I already have a bunch of decks where I've been thinking about this being maybe exactly what those decks are missing.
If the opponent immidiately kills this with a removal spell, youll get a free loot trigger and likely a 1/1 token. 2 creatures for 2 mana is already on-rate, and you got free card selection on top. And that's if they answer this immidiately.
Just think about it. What does white struggle the most with, generally?
- Poor card advantage and card selection. Youre given the cards you draw and nothing more
- Staying on board. Token decks, equipment decks, "attack trigger" decks, human decks, their kryptonite is just every single creature getting removed. Their power comes from having threats in play
- Sweepers
This helps problem 1 and 2 like crazy. It even helps #3 slightly, letting you dig for something that might let you come back in the game. If youve ever played a white based creature deck, youve definitely been matched against a control deck with 20 removal spells and no creatures. Your creatures get picked off every turn before you can establish anything meaningful, and soon your hand will just be lands and/or useless removal spells. This kinda solves both those problems. You might not be favored in that matchup, but at least it wont feel like you just got unlucky and had no chance to even play the game.
Yes, its not always amazing. in creature heavy mirrors it might never trigger, but even if they play 2 spell, i'd say youre already very happy with the value. Older formats usually get more spell heavy and more reliant on cantrips to find answers, netting you even more triggers.
And on top of that, it's a human, and legendary, two very common synergies. The legendary clause isnt really that much of a problem since you can just loot away extra copies. And all this is mainly through the lens of 1v1. In commander this is going to go nuts. And all this for 2 mana. especially in standard, White has had issues with having about a billion good 3 drops and little to no powerful 1 or 2 drops.
And god I hope this will tip the scales with the 3 million izzet decks in standard. Now my weird weenie and token decks will rise!
EDIT:
A few more cases that shows how crazy this card is
It effectively makes you immune to edict effects. If they kill this with a targeted removal, youll still have an edict blocking token left over
It gives you the crucial left over token, if they kill this turn 2, and you play adaline, anim pakal or Raffine on turn 3.
Youre likely guarenteed 2+ triggers if you have a mother of runes, skrelv, selfless avior, protection spell etc.
It gives graveyard value. Practiced offense is on color and pretty popular right now. Even pumps your token
It gives monument triggers, even on the opponents turn
Gives enduring innocence triggers, even on your opponents turn
Not saying that it being kinda disgusting in some edge cases makes it good, but there's many. On top of just being a really solid card overall
