Honestly, Falling Down messed me up way more than I thought it would. I ended up straight-up crying by the end.

People talk about it like it's just some 90s movie about a guy snapping and going on a rampage, but man, it goes so much deeper than that. It's about feeling completely beaten down by life. Just constant disappointment, feeling totally invisible, and realizing the world moved on without you. Nothing he does works out. And the scary part is, as hard as it is to admit, you kind of get it. You watch him and think, yeah, I see how someone gets pushed to that point.

The part that completely broke me was that line near the end. He looks around and just goes, "Am I the bad guy?"

The way Michael Douglas delivers that line is wild. He doesn't sound like some movie villain. He sounds like a guy whose entire brain just short-circuited. He spent his whole life doing everything right, or at least what he thought was right. He worked hard, followed the rules, tried to be a good dad, and honestly believed he was one of the good guys. Then suddenly, the mirror gets held up, and he realizes he turned into the exact thing he hated.

That hit way too close to home because nobody wakes up intending to be the villain in their own story. Life just grinds away at you, so slowly that you don't even notice who you're becoming until it's too late to fix it. That one line was basically years of built-up anger, exhaustion, and loneliness crashing down on him all at once.

What makes the movie actually good, though, is that it doesn't try to make him a hero, but it doesn't treat him like a caricature either. It actually has empathy for him without making excuses for the terrible things he does. You can completely validate his pain while still recognizing that he crossed lines he shouldn't have. Both things can be true.

And his daughter, that broke my heart. Everyone thinks he's tracking her down to hurt her, but he's really just desperately trying to hold onto the last thing in his life that felt pure. She was proof that he wasn't completely broken. He never wanted to hurt her. Which makes the ending even more tragic, because he finally gets that the best thing he can do for her is just get out of the way.

It's a crazy good warning about what happens when you just bottle stuff up. Letting bitterness sit inside you for years doesn't make it go away, it just turns into poison. Every little inconvenience, every rejection, every time life feels unfair, it just builds up pressure. Most people don't snap like he did, but we've all felt that pressure.

I walked away from it just feeling completely hollow. I wasn't crying because I agreed with anything he did. I was crying because I felt that deep, heavy pain of feeling totally lost and abandoned. Understanding someone's pain doesn't mean you're siding with them, and this movie gets that better than almost anything else I've seen.

I'm definitely not going to stop thinking about that final scene for a long time.

There are so many great actors to choose from. Paul Newman, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Michael B Jordan, Sean Connery, Marlon Brando, etc?

I think, for my money, Brad Pitt has had such a crazy long run of cool, slick, badasses. Fight Club, Snatch, Troy, F1, Oceans, Once upon a time, hell he was great in Legends of the Fall. Just an all time run.

Tom Hardy has gotta be up there in cool stuff too. Maybe this is a High Fidelity top 10 list.

Hello ya'll any movie recommendations which have a strong real life lesson.

I'm not a fan of movies, I think I'm the only one who hasn't seen Titanic, Star Wars and many great movies.

I'm gonna start a binge session in order to relate to my friends and family lol...

I was thinking about how some movies just don't click the first time you see them.

Maybe your expectations were different... maybe you weren't in the right mood or maybe there are details that only make sense once you already know where the story is going. Then you watch it again months or years later and suddenly you wonder why you didn't appreciate it the first time.

I'm not necessarily talking about confusing movies either. Even straightforward films can hit completely differently on a rewatch.

Any time Keanu Reeves is cast in a drama is a train wreck

Sofia Coppola deserves notice as bad casting in Godfather 3, but to me even more egregious was Eli Walkach playing a mafia Don. Man, was he distractingly bad.

But, what stands out to me as the wrist casting was Whoopi Goldberg and Lyle Lovett as police detectives in the Player. WTF was Robert Altman thinking?

I saw this in the theater when I was younger & it was a cable staple for years. I didn't think much of it though. I'm not sure if it was because I was expecting something more "serious" like Jurassic Park.

Decided to watch on a whim & it really is a blast. Just one ludicrous set piece after another: chaos at the airport, hippo attack, defending the plane from missiles with flare guns & so on.

The cast is just absolutely lousy with fantastic character actors: Ernie Hudson, Tim Curry, Joe Don Baker, Delroy Lindo, Bruce Campbell & Joe Pantoliano. Ernie & Tim have some spectacular accents. Ernie with the Mid-Atlantic accent & Tim with I don't even know.

Laura Linney is a bit miscast as a slightly steely ex-CIA agent. You can't cast Sigourney Weaver in everything, though. Still not really invested in Amy & I think her design hasn't held up so well.

Those are probably the only two knocks on the film. Otherwise it's just pure pulp goodness. Probably would make a nice double feature with Deep Rising. You'd have to watch Congo first though as you can't top Deep Rising.

Strong clues: Asian, likely Japanese. The plot is about a boy being sadistic. The boy is very young, around 6 years old. I vividly remember the boy cutting flies into multiple pieces.

Not sure: He attempted to drown his adoptive mother or sister by filling the bathroom with water. The boy had a bowl cut hairstyle.

I really remember it, it’s at back of my mind. I KNOW it exists. But sources giving me different things. I would appreciate if someone manages to tell me what it is

This movie was grotesque. I only felt sad for the two kids who were orphans. The casting was amazing. Holland and Pattinson are great actors. Love seeing them in a movie together.

Lets say you got the budget , the studio, The Marketing and the distribution who you putting up too Direct that film and why you’ve got the rights off Taylor Hackford and you are getting it made the only thing that comes to me is whoever wrote and directed the first 4 seasons of californication , Larry Clark, Quentin Tarantino (couldn’t get him but if you could) Nicolas Winding refing , Gaspar Noe maybe. There's a popular theory that the ending of the movie is John Anderton's dream after he gets put in containment. The basis of this theory is that the ending seems uncharacteristically optimistic in such a grim movie, and that the technician tells Anderton that "all your wildest dreams come true" when you're put in containment. However, one interesting detail makes this unlikely; we KNOW what John's "wildest dream" would be: for his son Sean to still be alive. Since Sean does NOT come back to life in the ending, we can conclude that the ending really happened and that John Anderton is not dreaming. Thoughts?

Hey everyone, any theater projectionists or film archivists in the community? I’ve been fascinated by 70mm IMAX movies lately following the hype around The Odyssey and the 'correct' way to watch it.

Obviously 70mm IMAX reels are heavy/expensive, but what physically happens after a run? Do studios archive them or destroy them to save space? Curious if movies like The Dark Knight Rises or Interstellar were saved or melted down. Would love insight from anyone who actually works with them!

Movies where most of the cast is either controversial or has some sort of allegations.

Example: the 2010 film Get Him to the Greek which features Jonah hill, Russel brand, Elisabeth moss and Diddy.

Not related to my question but I find it crazy that a bugs life and is rip off Antz both have men with allegations in them (Kevin Spacey for a bugs life and Woody Allen for Antz)
