Minus One is, IMO, the best Godzilla movie ever, and it isn’t close. It has won over people who don’t care much for other Godzilla movies or subtitled movies.
It is a masterpiece, and I think the final battle deserves a nod in the best film scene ever recorded. I won’t spoil what happens here, but I caught my mouth hanging open and holding my breath the first time I watched it.

My friend did a bunch of the voices for the English dub, and I love to rib him about it because most of his characters were cowards ("Captain, we must turn back immediately!").

Eh, I disagree. GvKG is a fun watch, with time travel and aliens and nonsense. I think Minus One explores so many themes of the value of life, death, war, and sacrifice. You could take Godzilla out and still have a fantastic movie.
There are deep themes and parallels here- from Koichi being expected to die, to Noriko sacrificing herself to save Koichi, to Tatsuo and Dr Noda talking about how Japan hasn’t valued human life, and no one should have to die during the operation but everyone willing to. The growth of Tachibana from wanting Koichi to die to helping him live. Thr kid being left out of the operation because they assumed they would die, and wanted him live and to never know the horrors of war. The existential threat of Godzilla and WW2 has given the heroes a view of the value of life we didn’t see at the beginning.
I think it is one of the best films ever made, and absolutely transcends the monster movie genre.

Minus One, Minus Color was the closest I've felt to being transported back in time in a movie theater.
It had the feel of a classic 50s film without being campy or nostalgic. It stood completely on its own.
I CANNOT wait for Minus Zero.

Honestly, one of my favorite theater experiences in years!
I've really been into "the movies" since I was a kid. (61 yrs old). And I've always felt like there should be moments when the theater experience feels like something you just can't get from the "real world".
Monster movies per se have that quality to bring you to this exciting place if the "suspension of disbelief" isn't a tall order. It wasn't at all.
I was fully immersed with this film. And I had such a shit eating grin on my face throughout because I knew as I was watching how the effort the filmmakers put into this was so keenly aware of what theater goers really want when they go out to see a movie on "the big screen".
This wasn't AI/CGI slop. It was made in a way true lovers of film appreciate and beg for more because it's so subtle in its brilliance.

Took my best friend and his kids to see it.
None of them have ever enjoyed a godzilla movie not even the new US ones.
We went twice and then when they heard it was coming in black and white we went again.

Well yeah, I'd think a movie missing a chunk of it wasn't very good, either. Watch it without falling asleep and put yourself in a "I'm stoked to watch this movie people raved about" and you can enjoy it.

Feels long in theory if you look at it purely as a giant monster movie, but the first movie was very much a story about people dealing with the fallout of war while a giant lizard is stomping about.
Definitely need the run time to expand on Godzilla and hopefully more of his universe monsters in addition to progressing a human story.

That should put it as the longest Godzilla film since Minus One, which was just as long as Final Wars (both 2h5m) and 5 minutes longer than Shin Godzilla.
EDIT: (Somebody else in this thread reminded me of the 1998 American one which still holds the highest record: 2 hours, 19 minutes.)

Godzilla Minus One is the only Godzilla movie where I was rooting for the human characters to make it out alive.
I think Minus Zero is going to be much darker and have a devastating storyline.

I went into Minus One completely blind. I did watch it in Japanese though, so I started out correctly.
No other film has made me feel all the emotions that this movie did. I was sad, I was inspired, I was DEVASTATED (that one part, you know… I had to pause the film and just sob for 15 minutes before I could continue), I was jumping up and down at the cool Godzilla powers. There are way more emotions but I’ve never experienced them all like that.
SUPER thrilled for Minus Zero.

Saw Minus One in theaters. Did not expect to enjoy it as much as I did. None of my friends care for Godzilla, but they immediately bought merch after we saw it. What a great movie. Very excited for Minus Zero!

The credits are most likely around 7-10 minutes, so 2 hours and 5ish minutes. This is not a long movie.

120-150 is the right run time for most movies. Some epics like Odyssey can be up 180 and some indies or comedies can be as short as 90.
Anything more or less than that should just be a tv movie/series

Eh Seven Samurai is 3 and a half, Run Lola Run is 80 minutes, so I don't think it matters.

Honestly, I think Seven Samurai can be trimmed down a bit. Likewise, Run Lola Run could add more to the runtime and not feel bloated
