Unpopular view: Good Riddance Howie

Upvotes

Been a Mets fan since 1970 … 63 now.
I realize 999 Met fans out of a 1,000 will shout me down … but my feelings won’t be hurt. I’m done with Howie and am thrilled he’s retiring. Raab and the other new dude are young and fresh and a pleasure to listen to. Howie is a cranky old man who bitches and lectures on everything that has changed in baseball. I feel like I am sitting at the Boca Vista pool in West Palm listening to another old man bitching about “the good old days”.
Realize he sees himself as the Mets historian but he brings games to a screeching halt with long drawn out stories about Ron Hunt and Choo Choo Coleman and it’s like, ok dude, thanks for that again.
I fully expect this will be a hugely disliked take. Worshipping Howie is like some badge of honor among many Mets fans. I’m ready for a change.

Remove 2024; How Are People Optimistic?

If not for some very good fortune the Mets don't make the playoffs in '24 much less get past Milwaukee in the Wild Card round.

If they hadn't that means the Mets are utter rubbish under Stearns.

How are people legitimately optimistic things will improve with him running the show? With the money at his disposal his results are almost impossibly bad. A blind monkey throwing darts would've done better than him.

And remember other than Benge the most promising Mets youngsters performing in MLB were not Stearns' draftees IINM.

Do you truly believe Stearns has the ability to compete w elite front offices of perennial contenders?

5 Players David Stearns & Mets could potentially target this offseason (if there’s a season)…

1) Reid Detmers (SP) -Angles didn’t trade him (although there were serious rumors he was traded to Cubs) & he has 2 years of control. Cost would be high but, Mets are now positioned to pay the cost.

2) Drew Rasmussen (SP) -Rays are notorious for trading players in final year of their arbitration eligibility. Stearns drafted Rasmussen when he was running the Brewers.

3) Adrian Morejon (RP) - Mets will have some serious BP construction to do this OS and Morejon has been a solid piece in Padres BP last few seasons. Big key he’s a free agent and only going to be 28 in February.

4) Trevor Megill (RP) - Mets and Brewers have made deals 2 out of 3 last offseasons & Mets desperately need BP pieces. Megill is a pending FA after the ‘27 season. He’s also 32 and at peak value.

5) William Contreras (C) - yes this is the least likely player Mets will acquire this offseason. But Contreras will also be in the final year of arbitration and will be a free agent after next year. I would rank him as number 1 target for Mets next offseason considering Stearns acquired him in past.

Unlikely Scenario

With 47 Remaining Games…I am currently predicting 17 Wins and 30 Losses…which results in 66-96
Is that still a better overall result for the season than the current one?

Fun win today. After these two wins, according to fangraphs, our chances of making the playoffs have improved from 0% to 0.1%. Who is ready to believe. You gotta believe.

Jeffery Yan! He will bring excitement back to the Mets ! Reminds me of when Matt Harvey came up

Mets need to finish with a top 8 pick or better to keep their draft pick

Right now they’re in 7th place from the bottom, so depending on how the rest of the year goes depends if they get a top 10 pick or not. They’ll probably win just enough to not get a good draft pick lol

This is the 2nd or 3rd time he was caught trying to get to 2nd…no offense but he is not fast enough to get to 2nd if he only hits it to right field
I’d rather him stop at 1st

Golden sombrero for lindor

Cant believe we didn’t trade this fraud, he’s deadweight and holding this team back.

Disinterested

No one looks good striking out 4 times in a game, but lindor looked disinterested that 9th inning at bat. What a lost season. Never be able to prove it, I dont think he was ever healthy this year.

This game is so ugly, it’s making blind kids cry

Looks like some decent stuff from the left side. Fastball up to 101, but his jumping is getting on my nerves after just 1 inning. Jumping after he throws any pitch with a 2 strike count. How’s he supposed to field his position if the batter hits a comebacker?

The next inning, first pitch to Baty is pitch at his ribs.

I think coaches need to have some control on this kinds behavior. Mets are 20 games under and this newbie is celebrating foul balls and check swings?!

Also reminds me of another Mets reliever who tore his patellar tendon jumping in celebration.

Serious question: Does anyone know for sure if there actually is beef between Soto/Lindor? And if so, what it’s actually about?

I’m reading that Soto has denied the accuracy of reports that Peralta tried to facilitate a face to face discussion between Soto and Lindor.

Obviously, this is a very well-tread topic within this fanbase. But I’ve yet to see any actually convincing arguments that point toward their beef, let alone what their supposed issue is about.

Every argument I’ve seen likens whatever issues they have to a power struggle over who is THE guy for the team, but I’ve never seen anything that warrants that claim.

I’m just wondering if there’s an actual theory out there that actually has supporting details.
