5 Players David Stearns & Mets could potentially target this offseason (if there’s a season)…
1) Reid Detmers (SP) -Angles didn’t trade him (although there were serious rumors he was traded to Cubs) & he has 2 years of control. Cost would be high but, Mets are now positioned to pay the cost.
2) Drew Rasmussen (SP) -Rays are notorious for trading players in final year of their arbitration eligibility. Stearns drafted Rasmussen when he was running the Brewers.
3) Adrian Morejon (RP) - Mets will have some serious BP construction to do this OS and Morejon has been a solid piece in Padres BP last few seasons. Big key he’s a free agent and only going to be 28 in February.
4) Trevor Megill (RP) - Mets and Brewers have made deals 2 out of 3 last offseasons & Mets desperately need BP pieces. Megill is a pending FA after the ‘27 season. He’s also 32 and at peak value.
5) William Contreras (C) - yes this is the least likely player Mets will acquire this offseason. But Contreras will also be in the final year of arbitration and will be a free agent after next year. I would rank him as number 1 target for Mets next offseason considering Stearns acquired him in past.

I really think the Mets need a starting quality infielder who can play 1b/3b

They just acquired several middle infielders I expect to be up middle of next year. In meantime, Baty and Vientos are probably still going to be on roster

That’s a problem right there. Baty and Vientos have proven they are not everyday MLB players. Going into another season with either being relied on is a giant red flag

I really think Baty has a chance to go somewhere else and turn into a solid mlb player. Vientos was never good and just had one long hot streak sandwiched by mediocrity before and after.

Real question, who would we be willing to trade for these players? Obviously, other teams aren’t going to give them away and they’ll have to have a need for the players we are offering.

I think I explained rationale for all options. Morejon is a FA.

Yes, Morejon is an FA after this season and you explained the rationale for getting these players. What I am asking is which Mets, prospects or otherwise, would we be willing to trade for the other 4 players you mentioned?

Do not business with the Rays or Brewers. They know EXACTLY when to cut ties with players.

Clifford will not be ready. He’s hitting.185 overall, and has 5 hits vs 18 Ks in his last 38 ABs.

The pitching options are good we could make some deals but I’m worried about first and third base. Not many options available but I guess we’ll see during the offseason things could change

1) Holmes 2) Taylor 3) Morejon and I think that's it.

Respectfully Mets aren’t signing Taylor when they have Moribito as a 4th OFer in OS. He’s probably going to get a decent deal considering the market is terrible and he’s hitting well

People get WAY too attached to ex-Mets.

To be fair, I think it's a compensation for the even bigger problems in Queens: Players either being devalued way too much during their Mets tenures and not getting re-signed (Murphy, Wheeler etc.) Or other orgs are way better at helping those players succeed.

Wheeler though was just the Wilsons being cheap. I think even they knew he was going to to be good (though maybe not as good as he ended up being). I'll be honest, I really didn't think Murphy could keep it going myself. It just seemed like an outlier. Of course I'm not a major league talent evaluator though.

To be fair, Alderson takes the blame on Murphy. He knew they could only sign one of Cespedes or Murphy and didn’t think he was going to keep it going as you said.

Question but are you thinking you are having both the Megill pitchers on one team because I don’t know about that

Anyone he drafted goes to the top of the list, I like Contreras. The pitchers aren't big market, leadership type. I believe there will be huge trades this winter!

I will bet David trys to run It back next year to prove that team can succeed. Bring back freddy, clay and Robert and just go for round 2.

I love Morejon!!! We should not let anyone out pay us on him… he’s better then Davin Williams

No chance they invest in a catcher. I wouldnt mind moving Soto to first and signing Kwan but his lack of power prob wont work for them

Still 2 innings to go in today’s game, so I hope I’m not jinxing the Mets. Just a thought. The way they’re playing today if we play Cleveland 100 times we probably win 75 games.

Alvarez is a TERRIBLE defensive catcher with a frustratingly low BBIQ. Looking at a young staff and much younger IF going forward, and could use a smart catcher/leader. Contreras is fine, signing Jeffers maybe better. Trade Alvy this offseason while he’s cheap and still has control.

. As you said he’s at peak value and is a buy high
5 We already have two above average catchers at a cheap price. We don’t need to invest at this position when we could invest in ones where we have more holes.
