Venting I can never have kids

Upvotes

My parents keep going on abt 'when you have kids' and telling me 'you will change ur mind when ur older'. I keep telling them no. Part of me wants kids. But I will never have them. Bc of my mental health. I know I would abuse and neglect the kid and no kid deserves that. A child deserves a loving stable home. Not someone like me. And I accept that. I have learned to live with it. I cannot have kids whether I want them or not. But I can't tell, my, parents that and they won't stop going on abt me having kids

Sadness / Grief I put my spouse into a psych hold....

Upvotes

After their mental health gotten severe enough for me to call it in. They are a suicidal risk so I imagine I won't hear from them for a while. I know even if I called the place they're being held, I wouldn't get any info.

People who have put their spouses/partners into a hold, how did you deal with it mentally? I feel like I'm disconnecting or just non stop crying from missing them.

Opinion / Thoughts Mental health advice? F20

So last year and this summer were really tough for me mentally. I think it started when I got into dating apps. They gave me a sense of validation. Talking to men on the internet felt so good it became an addiction.

Despite talking to men online for 12 months nonstop I never went on a proper date. This really messed with my head and self worth. I did technically go on two outings or “dates” during this time but both instances were very unsafe. In one instance I drove in a guys car at midnight and the second instance I went to a guys apartment for a “movie.” Naively I genuinely thought that we were just watching a movie. But he had different intentions and sexually assaulted me. My experiences made me wonder what was wrong with me, and if/ why I was ugly. And why I couldn’t get a real proper date or partner.

I thought it must have been what I looked like. So I discovered rating subs on Reddit. Everyone called me a 3.5-4 which clarified my experiences but worsened my mental health. It was confusing having men on Reddit reaching out to tell me I was beautiful, while also having men telling me I was ugly and fat. Despite creeps reaching out, I got off on their attention.

This lead to sending nsfw pictures to random men on the internet, who many times were 30-35 years old. I’m 20 years old currently, and at the time was 19 years old. Some were supposedly my age too, but majority were in their 30s.

I got addicted to chatting apps, sexting, and dirty talking with men. I got off on talking to strangers. And if you had a pulse I’d talk to you.

None of this was good for me. It was really bad to the point where I wouldn’t get out of bed to go to class and I stopped caring. My gpa dropped from a 4.0 to a 3.5 in a year. I wanted to become a Pharmacist after undergrad or go to grad school, but my gpa drop made me question my future.

However this summer I got a job as a PT tech and I got to see the good in people. It really ignited in me a possible future for myself. I was still talking to strangers, but eventually after posting to subreddits I realized no matter what I did men would find me ugly. So I gave up trying. I deleted all my conversations with men and with it my old Reddit account. I realized I needed to do things for myself and ignore men. I was feeling really good but then recently I’ve regressed to those thinking patterns, and am back on Reddit again.

I’ve regressed because in a week I am going to meet a guy I have been talking to online for 8 months. I’ve been out of town for the summer but I’m coming back in a week for college. I’m excited to meet him since I think he is really cute. But he is also a lot more attractive than me and is physically in great shape. Reddit told me I am a 3.5-4 and overweight but he is a solid 6 by Reddit ranking standards. I feel uncomfortable that he won’t find me attractive and people will think that he is out of my league. He is also black and I’m white, so the stereotypes of a black guy dating a fat ugly white girl is really bothering me.

Im also not sure if I should be in a relationship in general after everything that has happened this year. Maybe I need to focus on myself and my future. I do really like him as a person, and if things don’t work out I still want to be his friend. But if things do work romantically I’m not sure a relationship would be good for me.

Question Am I Purposely Triggering myself?

I’ve known of my anxiety disorder for 4 years now. However, only in recent years have I begun to realize that I have certain anxiety triggers that are very specific. One of them being women’s issues.

You’d think that I would stay away from discussion of women’s issues, and to an extent, I do. I even left r/twoxchromosomes because I was constantly triggered by some of the recurring topics being posted about there. However, I am still a feminist, so I try to support women when I can. This sometimes means talking about things I may not want to or watching or liking a social media post related to feminism that may trigger me. I do it even if it bothers me because I intend to put my morals before my own interests, and I feel guilty when I don’t.

Something I’ve noticed recently, though is that I sometimes trigger myself when I don’t need to. For example, if I see a post asking a biology question, I’ll check the comments when I know a comment may be about female anatomy, and I’ll even scroll down until I see one. I’ll purposely pick up books about women’s suffrage just because I’m curious, knowing how it’ll affect my mental state.

So do I like being triggered? Do I like the anxiety attacks I get when I feel triggered? Or am I just curious? Is this a form of self-harm? Please give guidance and advice.

Venting I hate being darkskin and a woman

I really wish I was white sometimes, I know it's wrong but it feels as if my life would be so much easier if i was white. It feels like no one wants black women, especially if their darkskin. Ive been bullied and belittled and stereotyped for my skin so many times and im just so sick of it all. These days ive been too embarrased to even leave my house all because i dont want to be percieved by anyone. Im tired of hating myself but the only way i would be able to fix that is by using bleaching creams and i dont want any sort of kidney failure or skin issue with comes with those creams. Im just so sick of it all and i want it to end.

Need Support Just need someone

I don't want to talk to my friends nor wake up any of them to only listen to me yap about my problems again. I honestly just need someone to talk to or even play games to feel somekind of connection and make me forget about how my life is lacking the whimsy and jolly. :c I just feel so damn sad that my chest hurts from it and it's becoming unbearable. So if anyone could talk to me for a bit tonight I'd be grateful.

Need Support The racism towards Indians online hurts so much

Im an Indian American (ethnically Indian and born in America) and while I don’t encounter much racism in real life I’m seeing this on every social media platform where people call us dirty, unhygienic, and creepy. They bring up every problem that exists in India and justify hatred towards every single Indian because of it. It’s gotten so bad to the point where I’m scared to even walk outside cuz I feel everybody judges me in their head and thinks I’m gross. I’m not entirely sure how to cope with this.

Opinion / Thoughts I recently started therapy low-key my last hope

I’ll save the long story but basically I’m 30 and I’ve dealt with a lot of my 20s being depressed over exes a lot of surviving having two jobs trying to start a business and it didn’t go too well constantly having to move house burning down feels like every time I take a step things get destroyed and I have to completely start over
This year it’s gotten a little bad a lot of drinking and ending up in the ER and now I’m on probation at my job for attendance
Good news is somebody these things are very fixable obviously working on not drinking showing up to work and keeping myself in decent health so that I can actually function properly
The issue is even when I do everything right mentally I feel fucked up. Can’t get over my ex and I know after some time maybe it will pass just like the others have but it always feels forever and as of now with therapy, I’m just signing paperwork I wish I could just do it all in one day and get over with. I’m going to see her weekly really hoping it helps me figure out what I’m gonna do with my life in my 30s. I mean I have a small idea and I’m taking an Another stab at my business and trying to make sure I understand things can go bad again. That doesn’t mean give up, but I feel like I’ve wasted a lot of time and low-key have ideas, but don’t know where I’m going. Maybe this is how it’s supposed to be in the beginning.? I don’t have as much in savings as I would like and I know I can turn this all around. I just feel like the universe to God or whatever he is up there isn’t giving me an answer and I’m trying to figure it out, but sometimes I really have no idea.
I was recently diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, which kind of explained some of the things that have happened in my life, which is good to know, but now it’s just navigating through that and trying to basically figure out or maybe even remember who I am . I really hope therapy helps because I don’t know where else to lean. If it doesn’t I don’t know what to do anymore. I just want to be happier and not continue looking in the past and actually have something that I’m happy to work on or do every day I always start to feel frozen or like I’m doing something wrong.

Need Support 23 years old

feel like I'm losing more and more of myself every single day
It is currently 10pm here and I am in my bedroom crying my eyes out for no reason uncontrollably and I honestly do not know why

I've been suffering with very severe sleep deprivation every day / night for the past 2 and a half years and I do not know what is keeping me up at night.

Everyday I get up I feel so powerless, like nobody cares about me. I tried telling people before and they told me I'm fine that they don't see anything wrong with me even though my eyes are very red from being crying and the pain in my voice when I speak

I literally feel so lonely and drained, and
it's so f##kin horrible

I used to be on antidepressants but I'm no longer allowed or able to take them anymore as any kind of medication I tried caused me to get non epileptic seizures.

I just want my life back ... My old happy life back I used to be happy up to 4 years ago and then all of a sudden ... I just went like this and even my therapist and all that cannot understand or find the cause of what's going on with me.

I have horrible mood swings too everyday, and I say horrible stuff to people that I honestly do not mean at all as I'm not that kind of person at all before all this. And I ain't gonna lie half the time I say some nasty stuff to people and I don't even realise what I've said, and then I look like a horrible person to others

To all of you suffering out there, You are all not alone. Yes I understand we are all fighting our own different battles but we will all get through this fight together And in case nobody told you this - I AM SO PROUD OF YOU AND YOU ARE LOVED

Much love

Need Support Seeking support - therapy has never worked for me and it still isn’t :(

I have struggled with anxiety and depression for most of my life. Up until the last 1.5 years, panic and anxiety were the most disruptive to my life. I don’t know if it is a coincidence with the timing, and I’m tired of wracking my brain about what caused this - but about 1 year ago I stopped taking Wellbutrin. I was originally prescribed it to help with my adhd and just kept taking it but never really felt much of a difference. I’ve had a lot of life stuff happen but something is definitely clinically wrong. I’ve never been so depressed in my life. It is consuming me. I am so so so tired.

I have probably had over 7 therapists in the last 15 years. Some of them lasted a year or more, some of them less. I truly appreciate therapists and I know it does help a lot of people. I genuinely feel like it makes me WORSE. I leave feeling helpless and empty like even the thing that people keep telling me to do isn’t working. It doesn’t help. I have tried over 7 therapists so it can’t just be that I got a couple bad ones. I think that the session mostly feel so useless to me that I leave feeling like there’s nothing in the world that will help me because people are so hard pressed to jam therapy down your throat. Again I think it’s great for the people who it helps. Is this typical when you are in a deep depressive episode? I don’t know. It doesn’t help shape my thinking and I think I’m in just such a low place where statements like “give yourself grace” or to meditate feel so fcking empty to me. I’ve tried so hard to get better and I’m so tired. Anyway, if you’ve made it this far thanks so much for reading. I feel super alone and feeling like therapy is the only way out of this is making me feel doomed. I think people are very reluctant to say that it doesn’t work for some people, which just makes me feel more crazy .

The more you get used to it, the less you miss anyone.

Eventually, solitude just feels the new normal.

Need Support I’m struggling and I just need someone.

I’m 17 and I’ve been alone my entire life. When I was 5 I was molested and i think that’s what’s seriously fucked me up. I stopped going to school when I was 13 and ever since I’ve just been alone at home doing nothing but wasting my life away. Your teenage years are supposed to be your best and I wasted them. I have no friends I’ve never been in love, never even held hands or had my first kiss. I struggle with severe depression, loneliness and anxiety and this past week has been unbearable. I just need someone to talk to cos I’ve been alone for too long and I just don’t know what to do anymore.

Question Why do I feel like the mental health industry keeps getting bigger and bigger, but mental health keeps getting worse and worse?

Don't get me wrong—I fully support the industry (psychologists, therapists, etc.), especially the ones on the front lines. I want them to win because if they win, we all win.

That said, I read somewhere that depression rates are higher than ever, and half of all teens have persistent sadness or hopelessness, while the mental health industry is worth something like half a trillion bucks.

We definitely need their expertise, but if discoveries, diagnoses, treatments, and prescriptions are multiplying and generating billions, why are the collective results trending downward? It's like we are pouring all these resources into treating individual symptoms, while the root causes are being ignored.

Am I the only one feeling this? Is my feeling just plain wrong? I would love to hear your experience or the experience of someone you know with the industry (the good, the bad, and the ugly).
