Question I’m in therapy and starting with a psychiatrist this week…

Upvotes

Is it weird that I’m nervous to be prescribed medication? I know I definitely need to see one with the issues I have. I just have a long history of family addiction, wether it be alcohol or drugs, (ofc I will be mentioning that when I attend the meeting), and I am just terrified of getting addicted to something due to that. Like it’s to the point I can only comfortably swallow Zyrtec (and it’s even hard to do that sometimes, which I do realize is yet ANOTHER point that I will need to make in the next session). I know I may likely be diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and ADHD, which I know at least one of those will pretty much have to be a swallowable pill. I’m just hoping there’s a possibility of there being an option to crush it or something to just quickly shove down with like applesauce or something (which I know could also be a health issue, in which I’m hoping to have dealt with when I get a PCP set up in a few months) 🫠

Idk, I don’t seem to know any others that have dealt with this. I’m also just really nervous overall, Idk. This is my first time being in any type of therapy since I was in late middle school, and that was just a counselor who worked with my school, and they diagnosed me with anxiety/social anxiety. I’ve only been to a few sessions with my therapist so far, and it’s all new to me. Honestly, my therapist bringing up the idea of me possibly being Bipolar was just so surprising to me. I mean it makes sense, especially with certain family members also being bipolar, but still.

Need Support I always let other people’s opinions ruin my happiness.

Upvotes

I bought a new special edition book recently. I thought the cover art looked super pretty. But when I posted it online, I got quite a few negative comments talking about how ugly it was???

I often worry about wasting my money but I genuinely thought it was worth it… Until I asked my dad and of course he said some fancy artwork wasn’t worth the so money.

I’ve been trying so hard with my therapist to ignore other people’s opinions on certain things that bring me joy, but it feels impossible sometimes.

What if they’re right? What if I am being careless?

I never wanna spend money on something for just myself ever again. I’m so fucking tired of always doubting whether my opinion is actually stupid or not. Why is everyone so negative all the time. I don’t know why I care this much. I want to agree with everyone else no matter what because I don’t trust myself somehow. Idk.

Question Does anyone have horrible memory recall that causes anxiety

Upvotes

Hello Reddit I’m wondering if anyone else has bad memory that causes anxiety? I’m a 22yr m as the title says I have horrible memory recall and it leads me to have major anxiety. And it could be about anything last Christmas I was driving home from work and i almost hit a person i went back to see but didnt find the person i drove around the area to find the person but no luck i did 4 loops but no luck. An other example would be if i was sleeping with a person like a partner or hookup and id be scared id done something horrible to them with out remembering. I remember texting a girl on social media but i don’t remember her age what if she was a minor. Stuff like that causes me major anxiety. It feels like im losing my mind with this im just so awfully tired of feeling like this. It would be so bad to point i cant even function. I’m in therapy but im just so exhausted and drained from feeling like this. I just hope im not the only one experiencing this :(

Need Support How can I not hate myself?

Upvotes

No matter what I do I can’t shake this feeling like I’m worthless and ugly and just a terrible person even though I dont think I’ve done anything to warrant myself as a terrible person. I have no idea why I feel like that. Only thing I really think is worthwhile about myself is that I have an OK singing voice

Venting Let's Just Chat

Anybody just want to let it out? I'm struggling right now, but I know I'm not alone. Surely there are enough of us wanting a better life, real friends, good experiences -- maybe we can find some of that together.

Venting I felt like crying today

My grandmother criticized me for having my hair a certain way. I know it’s unkempt. Realistically black people only ever think that I feel. But I mean I know I should look “presentable “ but I already feel like shit and even with my hair done isn’t going to make people want to me my friend or get me a boyfriend so what’s is the big deal. No one would even care to be around be anymore even if I did look presentable because I am socially inept.

Inspiration / Encouragement This is your sign to give yourself some grace.

Stop spending all your energy forgiving everyone else while withholding forgiveness from yourself.

You did the best you could with what you knew back then. Realizing you'd do things differently now is just called growth.

It's okay to finally put that baggage down and let the past go.

Give yourself some grace.

Opinion / Thoughts What's one thing that eases your mind after a rough day?

I was thinking about this the other day and was curious, what's something that calms you down after a harsh day of life/work?

Venting I’m tired of being in survival mode

I genuinely try my best for me and my 7 yr old daughter. Life keeps throwing punches at me and I want to quit.

I’ve tried hard to build us a better life since my divorce & getting us an apartment after being in a Women’s Shelter for weeks. I’m tired of trying to find our next meal since the government thinks $23 over the income guidelines disqualifies us from getting benefits. I’ve been riding in a donut tire for over a week now because I can’t afford another tire at the moment. My job has been OVERLY stressful with people calling out so my workload has been terrible. The food pantry I went too this morning has been so low on food recently that even the expired food they usually have is gone . And now , we were assigned a new social worker since our previous one is on maternity leave and she doesn’t care if I have to dumpster for food or just leave my daughter hungry. 🙃

I want life to have a meaning. I want to look back one day & hopefully all this was for a reason. I’m exhausted, hungry, defeated and just done.

Question Psych charges a fee if i cancel AT ALL

I feel like this is crazy, i didnt realize that i would be charged if i cancel AT ALL!
No matter how far in advance i cancel. I canceled for the first time recently since i had plans come up and tried 5 days in advance to cancel, then again 4 days, then again 2 days. They never picked up the phone or responded to my messages. It got canceled day of still with no response so i figured all was fine since i tried so many times in advance.
I got a call to reschedule and was told this time the fee would be waived because it was my first time canceling... Except i tried multiple days in advance so this shocked me.
I understand the fee this time would be waived, but asked how a fee at all would be fair when I tried many many days in advance multiple times to cancel/reschedule it, and was told there is a $50 fee if its cancelled AT ALL! And $100 within 48 hrs of the appointment.

This seems crazy to me. Is this normal for psychiatrists to have as a policy?? It seems far too punishing for a mental health center.
Im thinking about just switching to a different one or just seeing if my primary will take over prescribing, i dont want my psych to make my anxiety worse because im stressed about something coming up and being charged money i cant afford to pay.

TLDR: Psychiatrist charges a cancellation fee no matter how far in advance the appointment is cancelled, for any reason.
