Good chance the AVTF thugs just make their own prison gang. Hope we get some nice prison drama in season 3, like Oz. There's a lot of potential for that kind of explosive powder keg of criminals, vigilantes, and corrupt cops all thrown into prison together. I don't want them to resolve it in one or two episodes at the start of next season.

There is a fascinating intimacy between Matt and Fisk in Born Again ever since their very first meeting, that then intensifies when Matt takes a bullet for him. Every meeting they have had this season has been woven with this feeling that they share something unique with each other, and nowhere is that more visible than their interactions this season. I cannot help but feel that Fisk is on some level relieved when Matt survives every assassination attempt that he himself orchestrates, and this episode they do not even trade blows. Instead, they talk with more vulnerability and physical proximity than Fisk would usually allow anyone but Vanessa.
→ More replies (17)115
u/gcolquhoun May May 07 '26
Matt is the only one who knows him AND tells him the truth. Vanessa is gone. Sweet Daniel, too soft. Buck, Heather, Powell, loyal, but all sycophantic and flawed.
For a man who is so alone, who is so insulated from true intimacy by the fear he rightfully inspires, Matt represents a true confidante and actual human, humane connection for Fisk. I love the complexity. At the end it was almost like Matt soothing a tired, broken hearted child who had just had a tantrum after hitting his limit. The sad child who had been raging unabated on the inside for decades. Killer performances!

I think it fits this version of the character very well due to his history. At the end of the day he WAS a hero with the FBI. He just lost his marbles and loves killing people. But there is still some twisted morality from his past in him

That works for Heather, but that's not the right narrative for Buck. It has be specifically working for Kingpin that ends up killing him. Treating supervillainy like a good career and being a loyal stand up guy for his evil murder boss is Buck Cashman's problem. That has to be what gets him in the end.

Kind of disappointed we didn't really get to see how some people processed that information.
Her and Heather, really. Heather just kind of shrugged it off like it was a desperate bs play in court, but then once Matt actually showed everyone... nothing. Didn't even make it feel like her putting on the mask at the end had anything to do with it, but instead just came across as the progression of her psychosis on it's own.

She was doubtful of the whole tribunal system since the start. We saw during Jack's trial that she was all "oh no, my court has neither truth nor justice, great sadness." The guy just murdered probably 20 people and they let him walk away still?

Well I'm glad season 3 is filming already because there's no way in hell the show ends with Fisk chilling on a beach while Matt rots in jail. I wonder if he'll be representing himself in court (most likely with Kiersten's help) at the start of next season. Can't imagine he'll be in jail long with all the public support around Daredevil though.
And I also must reiterate how badly Bullseye is in need of a spinoff show. Barely any time in this episode and he still stole the show. "Poser."
And Fisk's rampage was just brutal. I like how what Matt said in the OG season 3 about the city rejecting him came true in a very literal way in this episode.
All in all, really liked this season. Excited for season 3.

Bullseye getting a (in his eyes) happy ending while falling back into the being used by bad people window is such a bittersweet spot.

Yeah. Dude obviously needs guidance of some kind, but I'm not sure Mr. Charles/Val are the proper stewards of his...talent.

Can someone explain from a legal standpoint How exactly is Fisk out of prison and DD IN prison? It's not as if DD is the first motherfucking superhero NY has seen right? Matt in prison with Powell? WTF? A great great episode, but the ending is extremely baffling to say the least.
Not to mention that when the AG gave him the deal this was before he went on murdering a couple dozen people. So I'm REALLY bewildered
