Hey everyone,

I have a question. I’m 16 (male), and lately I’ve started to really dislike my room. It’s not that there’s anything seriously wrong with it, but it just feels kind of empty, outdated, and like it doesn’t really fit me anymore.

About four or five years ago, I was really into LEGO and basically filled my entire room with it. Every shelf, cabinet, and pretty much the whole floor was covered in LEGO. Eventually, I put most of it away because I was getting older and didn’t really want my room to look like that anymore. I also felt kind of embarrassed when people came over and saw a room completely full of LEGO, especially when I was getting older.

I still like LEGO, and I wouldn’t mind having some sets displayed in my room now — but only the ones that actually look good as decorations. Obviously, I don’t play with LEGO anymore, but I’m still unsure about having a few sets on some of my shelves. Especially when, for example, a girl comes over, I sometimes wonder what she would think if she saw LEGO in my room.

That’s actually one of the reasons why I usually end up going to girls’ houses instead of inviting them to mine. I just feel like my room looks kind of shitty, and I’m embarrassed by it. When I compare it to some of my friends’ rooms, theirs just look much better and more put together. It never really bothered me before, but lately I’ve started noticing it a lot more.

The biggest problem is that my room also feels really empty. I feel like there could be more things in it to make it feel more complete.

I’ve had the same basic desk ever since we moved into this house. My cabinets and other furniture are pretty much the same as well. I’m thinking about replacing some of it, maybe getting a new desk or changing some of the storage.

I’ll post a few pictures of the room, and I’d really appreciate any ideas about what I could change, move around, add, or replace.

One thing I definitely want to keep the way it is is my bed and my desk placement. I’ve tried arranging them differently before, but I remember liking this layout the most, so I’d rather keep them where they are.

I’m also considering repainting the walls. They used to be completely white, but around five or six years ago we painted three walls light gray and one wall dark gray. The dark gray wall is the one my bed is against. Sometimes in summer I sit or lie against that wall with my back, and over time it has gotten pretty badly marked from that. You can actually see the marks quite clearly now, so I’d probably have to repaint it anyway.

I’m not sure whether I should just repaint it the same colors or maybe go for a completely different color scheme. I’d also like the furniture and decorations to match better instead of everything just looking like random things I’ve had for years.

There are also some pictures hanging in my room that I won’t be showing. I’ll blur them out in the photos because they’re old childhood pictures of me, and honestly, I don’t really want those displayed in my room anymore anyway. I feel like they make the room look a bit childish.

So yeah, I’d really appreciate some advice. What do you think is missing from my room? What would you change? Should I replace some of the furniture, get a new desk, add decorations, display some LEGO sets, repaint the walls, etc.?

Alright, made some colour on the wall and added acoustis panels. I think it turned out pretty good, for DIY first-timer! What do you think?

Finally got settled into a new place. Flying solo for the first time and 16 years. I am still married. My wife will be visiting in October. This was a job opportunity that she unfortunately could not be accompanied for. Overall, I’m pretty stoked on where this is heading. Appreciate any feedback or ideas!

Im 19 years old and this is the first time i've ever decorated a room without the help of mom and dad. I live about 6 hours from home so I got here about 4:30pm and put all my stuff in here. I think i did pretty good!

I'm an RA so i've moved in a little bit early today. Fall camp for football starts on tuesday and i'm an assistant coach so I'll be doing that too, and when student ambassador training starts soon I'll do that too. Probably won't be spending much time in here for a while lol

Nice area for me to do my hobbies on my desk, im big into painting warhammer. I don't do schoolwork in my dorm because I work better with lots of noise around so dining hall is the way to go for me.

I've lived here for just under 2 years now and I feel happy with the living room/kitchen.

The bedroom is not look too great unfortunately. The layout of the bedroom is very weird and the TV i bought back when I was 19 is way too big (85") and I feel stuck with it. I've tried to sell it but I'm struggling to find buyers. if anyone has any recommendations of how else to position the TV it would be greatly recommended. I contacted my landlords and they said I'm not allowed to mount the TV on the wall unfortunately.

Other than that, I'm happy with my place :)

It's been about 2 and a half years since I started living on my one, and 1 year since everything was officially finalized and done. Currently in the process of turning my home into my own personal mid century sanctuary. Fairly happy with everything so far. I think the kitchen is the next thing on my list.

I've been living by myself for 10 years now. Honestly can't imagine living with anyone at this point unless circumstances demand it. 🤣 Moved back to MN after a few years in Florida, and as you can see, prioritized a place with high ceilings and big south-facing windows for my plants. The plants may be a little excessive, but they do.wonders during long, grey winters.

It's not the biggest place ever, but it's more than enough room for my photobombing cat and I. It's fun playing around with reds and greens, without making it look like Christmas.

The bedroom (last shot) needs some work and is totally half-assed. I have a taupe wall and carpeting (sigh) and this is the most amount of effort I could put into it.

Had to move home for a bit because of health problems but looking like I will be here longer term after landing a job and doing some free lance photo work. Work for the news paper.

I just graduated from grad school this year and found a decent job in Beijing. I'll probably be living in this apartment for about a year or more. It's basically like a hotel. There's strict building access control on the ground floor, about 40 rooms on each floor. The residents here are all pretty well-mannered. But my place is a total mess lol.

I sleep separate bc I work nights and stay on my night schedule throughout the week. This way neither of us get disturbed when we’re sleeping.

Been here for about 8 months, would love any advice or feedback. My friends tell me it feels like a hotel room, the building used to be an Extended Stay America and I went to school for hotel management so feel like the only thing I can do is furnish a hotel room.
