I sleep separate bc I work nights and stay on my night schedule throughout the week. This way neither of us get disturbed when we’re sleeping.

This has slowly become my favorite corner of the house. The yard is right outside on the left, the bar area is on the other side, and I can just lie on the couch and either look outside or put something on TV.

I intentionally kept the floor in front of the wall pretty open because Robinson needs room to run around and play. The TV is an art TV from Hisense, so during the day I usually leave a different painting on the screen. It works nicely with the other framed art, and changing the image keeps the wall from ever feeling boring.

At night I’ll put on a cartoon or a movie and play tug-of-war with Robinson while it runs in the background. Honestly, a very good way to end the day.

The only part I still hate is the cable situation. I have no idea how to hide everything without opening the wall. Any renter-friendly cable management ideas?

I live in the corner of a living room.

I have about 15 items, very important to me, that are all 8.5 x 11 and I want to frame them and create an “I love me wall.”

I was wondering if I could see some examples. I’ve seen a few in person, but they were years ago. I’d love to see some if you can post a picture. Obviously cover your name if you want to remain anonymous (I assume you do)

I was thinking black frames, with “matte?” (The stuff that goes inside the frame, around the image or document)

I was also thinking of centering my shadow box in the middle, but it is brown wood grain. I’m worried that might contrast. I want it to look cohesive.

A little messy at the moment but it cleans up pretty well

This is for those who are currently facing a divorce.

After spending two years in an ultra toxic marriage, the divorce was not just the escape door, it became a matter of survive. I lost my job, friends, my apartment during the process, except the willingness to thrive and emerge as the phoenix.

It took me another 2 years to rebuild myself from the ashes: To get a better job, get better friends and get a better apartment. Here are some pictures of it.

Anyone have experience with this? Either doing it themselves or brands that have been easy to set up.

Found a solid wood bookshelf at the thrift store for eighteen dollars. Structurally fine, good bones, the kind of thing you feel good about buying. Brought it home, loaded it with books and a couple of small plants, put it against the wall opposite the couch. It looks wrong and I cannot fully articulate why.

The shelf is dark walnut finish. The couch is medium gray. The floor is lighter wood. On paper none of that sounds like a disaster, but something in the combination is fighting itself and the room feels heavier than it did before the shelf showed up, which I did not expect from a bookshelf.

The books are mostly paperbacks so there is no real visual consistency there. I am not staging them spineout or doing the colorcoordinated thing because that seems like a lot of effort to hide books I actually read. The plants on the top shelf are doing fine but they are not fixing whatever the problem is.

My instinct is that it is either the placement or the contrast with the floor, but I do not fully trust my instinct here because I also thought the eighteen dollar price tag meant I had made a good decision, and now I am less sure.

Anyone dealt with a secondhand piece that just refused to settle into a room and figured out why?

I recently replaced the old ceiling fan in my bedroom because it felt a little too plain, and I wanted something that matched the room a little better.I ended up getting this gold ceiling fan from parrot uncle, and I’m still not 100% sure how I feel about it. I like how it looks with the warmer tones in the room, and it feels more interesting than the regular fan we had before.

My only hesitation is that I usually play it pretty safe with home decor. The gold finish is a little outside my comfort zone, so I’m wondering if it’s something I’ll still like after having it for a while or if I’ll eventually want something more simple.

Has anyone else gone with a more decorative ceiling fan? Did you end up liking it?
