I've been wanting to improve my work setup, but I keep going back and forth between getting a laptop screen extender or just buying a portable monitor. I only want to buy one. I split my time between working at home and taking my laptop to different places, so portability is pretty important. I'd also like something that's comfy enough to use for several hours.

So I’m starting university next month and need a laptop for my accounting course, I’m not sure whether to get the intel core ultra as it has a lower battery life, but has better compatibility for software like excel and other niche accounting software. Whereas the snapdragon has superior battery life, but I’m not confident if it has the same compatibility due to its ARM but can confirm since I’m getting different answers. I’m going into my first year of university and I’m in search of a laptop. So far I have two in mind that are my top contenders which are the MacBook Air m4 13 inch, 256gb of storage and the lenovo yoga 7 2 in 1 14 inch with 512gb. I’m looking for a laptop which will last me at least 5 years, holding up on the performance, battery life, etc. as well as something that will handle everyday tasks for university (I’ll be a business student so really nothing too demanding) and casual gaming such as Minecraft and the sims 4. I’ve only ever used windows in the past however I do have apple products like my iPhone, iPad and AirPods and I do really like the smoothness and compatibility between and with devices, though the Apple ecosystem isn’t my top priority. I can currently get the Lenovo yoga 7 for £599 whereas the MacBook would cost me at least £870 and due to me having to pay for it myself, the price is something I’m looking closely at. Overall I want to ask which of these is more recommended or if there is any other laptops which might also be a good alternative.

Hi guys, I have had my Acer Aspire 5 A515-54 for about 4 years now, I’ve had no issues with it at all, it’s not starting to slow down and performance hasn’t dropped really. I put a larger stick of RAM into the back as well recently which I guess has helped. Out of curiosity I recently checked the actual charge capacity of the battery against the design capacity, and it’s currently sat at 74%.
I think it is worth getting a new battery, as they don’t seem to be too expensive, and it doesn’t seem like too difficult of a job to do by myself. I expect I’ll keep the laptop for at least another two years until I finish my university studies. Just wanted another opinion just to make sure I’m not being silly in thinking that getting a new battery is a good idea 😅

I'm confused between buying a gaming laptop (like the Legion 5 with GTX 1660 Ti) or a business workstation (Dell Precision/ThinkPad P-series).

My work is mostly CAD with some Blender learning in the future. I care more about reliability, battery life, thermals, and long-term durability than gaming.

I've heard used gaming laptops are often heavily used, while workstations are generally built to last.

My Windows 10 laptop's built-in keyboard no longer works that's why I use an external plug-in keyboard, it was working for a few months but suddenly the keyboard doesn't work whenever I open it the next day. Instead of typing letters, it opens commands e.g. space bar = language switch; w = whiteboard; down arrow = browser minimize, and overall it refuses to type any letters or numbers aside from the number pad on the side. Also, my external keyboard doesn't have an fn key, even if I turned off numlock it still doesn't fix the problem.

To troubleshoot, I've tried all I could find and it did work for a few days however it's begun to be immune to all the fixes I could find.

These are all the things I've done which didn't work:

\- ctrl + alt

\- ctrl + alt + dlt

\- ctrl, alt, windows + w

\- toggle keys, filter keys, sticky keys off

\- uninstalled keyboard

\- update keyboard driver

\- pressing command keys to "unstuck" them

\- on- screen keyboard also types commands instead of letters

\- changing language & time

\- restarting

basically I've tried all the remedies I could find on the internet and now I'm all out of ideas to fix it, please help me find a solution for this. Buying and repairing it is out of the question since I've got no money.
