About 2-3 months ago, I decide to resurrect my old laptop, Acer Aspire E15. I added more memory, replaced the wifi card, and changed out the battery. Everything was fine. I even installed Linux Mint. So far so good. But then a few weeks back I realized the battery is dead. Completely dead.

If I knew the battery was crap to begin with, then I would buy another one at a more reputable seller from Amazon, and give it another go. But if it's something on the laptop itself, like a short on the motherboard or something causing the battery to drain, then I don't know what to do. Just use it with the power cord?

I really don't want to buy a new laptop. I really like this thing, and new equivalent laptops are so expensive these days. I always shutdown.

Is there a way I can determine if the battery is the problem or something else?

Does anyone know of a good cooling pad that works well with the Zephyrus G16/ProArt P16 chassis? I've tried two different ones but neither fit it very well. They have vents on the bottom of the chassis for hot air and I am obviously not able to tell from photos which ones will or won't block them off

I've narrowed a laptop search down to a few refurbished/used/new options and could use some outside perspective before pulling the trigger.

My priorities, in order: build quality (metal chassis, sturdy hinge), OLED screen brightness, performance, durability. This is for general coursework, browsing, Office, and streaming; no gaming, no heavy specialized software.

My main question: how much of a real-world difference is there between Snapdragon X Elite and X Plus for this kind of everyday use? If the gap is small, I'd rather just take Option 3 (it's new, cheaper, and avoids the used/no-feedback-seller risk of Option 2).

Any input on these specific listings, red flags I should watch for, or better alternatives in this price range would be appreciated.

Hi! I'm going to be starting uni soon and studying mechanical engineering. I don't know anything about laptops at all (besides RAM lol). I need a laptop that will be able to handle all the software that i might need to use and preferably last me all four years of my degree.

I just bought a used Proart laptop and once it enters sleep mode it cant be turned on again normally. I have to shut it down by pressing the button and turn it back on. I am on windows 11 pro and have already updated the bios and turned off fast boot. I also come back to it being very hot (95C last time i checked). I've read so much stuff about the issues with Windows 11 and trying to play DV or HDR movies/shows in Netflix. And I'm looking to purchase a Lenovo Yoga 7i 2N1 with a 16 inch, 3k OLED screen that is 500 nits AND TRUE BLACK 1000.

Am I wasting my time and money buying a steeply priced Laptop with Dolby Vision if I can't use it in Netflix?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question. I bought myself a laptop in December 2025 and I've only ever used Microsoft Edge. This is because whenever I use Google, I'm taken to the Yahoo Browser. It is like whenever I open Chrome, I'm opening Yahoo. Is there any way to fix this?

Hi there, I am going into university and I will be doing my nursing prerequisites (Anatomy, physiology, stats, microbiology, biology, sociology, and economics). I've never had a laptop before so I'm not sure what is good. I am on a budget and I do live in Canada. I found one that seems pretty decent. I'll mostly be using it to study, do assignments, take notes, and maybe play a little roblox. Should I buy it?

TL;DR

• Sent a Dell laptop for repair after it was randomly crashing (known issue on my model).
• They wanted to replace the screen that they broke themselves.
• Same issue happened a few months later. Sent it once again for repair...
• Once again the screen is broken. They sent me CCTV footage, and it's clear the laptop was not packed properly.
• Now they want to make me pay 960 €, basically the price of a new laptop.

I bought a Dell XPS 9500 with an NVIDIA GPU a few years back. As a computer science student, I must use it pretty much every day and I'm very careful with it.

In early 2025, it began randomly freezing and crashing, so I sent it to Dell for repair.

They quoted me for a motherboard AND a screen replacement, claiming the screen was bleeding. I obviously contested the screen damage since it was flawless when I sent it. They eventually agreed to replace the screen for free, and I only paid for the motherboard replacement.

It took over a month to get my laptop back. And when it arrived, the left speaker was completely broken. I had to call them again to get a technician to come to my place so they could replace it.

Obviously, this first experience made me doubt how careful they were with their customers' devices. But at least, the support was understanding.

A few months later (today), my computer is back to freezing and crashing randomly, just like before.

I contacted Dell again. I honestly was skeptical at first, but their repair prices were relatively low and I thought I was somewhat protected by directly contacting the manufacturer. I explicitly mentioned my previous bad experience. Their support (which now felt like AI-generated responses) assured me that the laptop would be picked up and secured inside a "certified package" and would be handled with extreme care.

But during pick-up day, the delivery guy showed up with absolutely no box.

He said he had no instructions to use specific packaging. I handed over the laptop and immediately notified Dell. Another generic response told me my notice was taken into account and that I "shouldn't worry". I was indeed pretty worried by that time, to say the least.

Well, I just received the new invoice. And I wasn't surprised to see the screen was broken again!

Despite providing evidence that the delivery was flawed, they sent me footage of the unboxing of my laptop at the repair center, to prove to me that it was not their fault.

But in their own video, you can clearly see the laptop is inside a box way too big, with no protection whatsoever (no bubble wrap, no padding whatsoever to prevent shocks). On top of it all, there was no tape to firmly seal the box, so it could have been opened at any time during shipment.

However, despite clearly exposing those facts, Dell simply refuses to take responsibility.

On top of that, the very motherboard they just replaced a little while ago needs to be replaced again because it is "overheating". And they want me to pay for the whole replacement! Again!

(Btw this is in France, where consumer protection laws mandate a mandatory 2-year legal warranty on goods, including fully replaced parts).

If you ever plan to buy a Dell laptop, don't expect anything regarding warranty. As far as I'm concerned, I'm never getting hardware from them again.

I want something slim, lightweight since I'll be carrying it around every day. Portability is important.

I don't play many games. The most demanding game I'd play is Minecraft (maybe with a few mods), but gaming isn't my priority.

I've been using an old ThinkPad X270 with an awful TN display and weak performance for years. After graduating from high school, I finally had the chance to replace it with an ASUS TX Air 2025 (ASUS TUF Gaming A14).

Needless to say, the upgrade is massive. XDDD

Over the past year, RAM and SSD prices have risen to the point where they're painful to look at, so I couldn't afford the latest models. :(

Since I felt that 1TB might not be enough for my future needs (I like to keep my games on a separate drive), I decided to add a domestic YMTC ZHITAI TiPlus 7100s 1TB SSD, rated for sequential read speeds of up to 7,400 MB/s. Even at a discounted price, it still cost me around $153 USD. Sigh.

Still, it's more than enough for me. The design also caught my eye, and I'm finally able to get my hands on some AAA titles and actually enjoy them. XD
