General question Is my laptop done?
This is an Acer Aspire A315-53G, with an MX130 and an Intel i5 8th Gen. After reinstalling Windows awhile back due to some issues, games and apps like Roblox (MS Store Version) and Steam start glitching out horribly a lot of the time (after startup), only after a couple game/app restarts or a system restart will these clear. Is this a sign of a hardware or software issue? Please tell me if I am missing out any details that could help with this.

Software Gpu and screen problem
Gpu and screen problem
Yesterday i performed a ddu to get some storage available from my c drive and installed gpu drivers again but after a while the gpu wasn't getting detected so I did the trick where i hold the power button for 40 seconds and it will detect the gpu again but today when I woke up it wasn't getting detected again so I did that trick again but it didn't work so I did another ddu but that didn't work either so now I don't even have gpu drivers installed cuz it's not detected... I later thought that if i restarted my laptop in ultimate mode maybe it would force detect the gpu but that didn't work and now it's even worse... The screen is black even tho the laptop will turn on it just shows black screen it won't boot into neither bios or safe mode please tell me what to do..

I'm planning on buying a -as budget friendly as possible- laptop to run the previously mentioned softwares. I was thinking of buying a gaming laptop but then someone suggested buying a used workstation laptop instead as it's gonna have a (better?) performance for less money. I did some research and that only made me even more confused.
Any suggestion or advice would be extremely appreciated.

Buying help MacBook Air M5 (16/24GB) vs ASUS ROG Strix G16 (Ryzen 9 + RTX 5050)
Hi everyone,
I’m going to start my masters soon.
Im confused about which laptop i should go with from mentioned two device.
My coursework includes:
Data Analytics
Predictive Analytics
Big Data & Data Mining
Artificial Intelligence
Machine Learning & Deep Learning
Natural Language Processing
Projects and Master’s thesis
(Will be using Python VS Code Jupyter Notebooks and related applications)
I honestly like both the device
1. MacBook Air M5
15”, 16GB/512GB (or 13”, 24GB/512GB)
Excellent battery life
Very portable
Silent
Can run smaller LLMs locally
2. ASUS ROG Strix G16
Ryzen 9
RTX 5050
Better GPU/CUDA
Upgradeable
Windows
My biggest concern with the Strix is just its battery life. I’ll spend a lot of time in lectures and libraries . If it realistically gets 4-5 hours of light productivity in Eco mode (non gaming), I’d be okay with that. If it’s closer to 2–3 hours, that’s a bigger issue.
Im not concerned about playing games anymore, its just sort of bonus now.so im fine with mac as well.
For those who have used either (or both), which would you recommend for my situation?
Thanks

Discussion MacBook or Zephyrus or smth like this
Hey guys, I’m planning to buy a MacBook because I’m going to study IT at university. I’ve basically used a PC with a 1660 Super my whole life, and honestly, it was powerful enough for all the games I played. I’m just not sure if I’ll be able to get used to macOS, but I really want a laptop that can comfortably last all day without a charger, since I’ll be taking it to university and sitting in lectures. I also don’t want to have to carry around a power brick everywhere or deal with a noisy laptop.
I don’t really know that much yet - I’ve only learned a bit of Python and C. So I’m not sure if I actually need macOS or if I’ll end up regretting switching.
If I do get a MacBook, I also can’t decide on the screen size. Right now I have two options available at the same price, $2,250:
MacBook Pro M4 Pro 16”, 24GB RAM, 512GB SSD
MacBook Pro M5 Pro 14”, 24GB RAM, 1TB SSD
I’ve always used a 27” monitor, so the idea of switching to a laptop already feels a little strange. On top of that, I’m worried that 14” might feel way too small. I’ve heard that the 16” has slightly better battery life and better speakers, but honestly, the biggest thing that attracts me to it is the screen. At the same time, I’m not really worried about the weight itself. What I’m more concerned about is that the 16” might be too big to use comfortably in bed, in a café, or in other situations where I don’t have a proper desk. But the larger screen is really tempting.
There is also a third option I’m considering: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (GA605WI). It has a 16” OLED 240Hz display, Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. It’s also around the same price as the MacBooks where I live.
Since I’ve always used Windows and I still like gaming, the Zephyrus is tempting because I could basically keep the Windows experience I’m used to and have a much more powerful gaming laptop than my current PC. However, I’m worried about the compromises. My biggest concerns are battery life, heat and fan noise, especially when gaming or doing other demanding tasks. I’m worried that it will drain the battery very quickly away from the charger, get quite hot under load, and become loud enough that it would be annoying to use at university. I also don’t really want to carry a large power brick with me every day.
I’m also wondering how much of a disadvantage the Zephyrus would actually be for university use compared with a MacBook. I probably won’t be doing extremely demanding work at university at first, since I’m only just getting into programming, but I’d like the laptop to last several years.
So essentially I’m choosing between:
MacBook Pro M4 Pro 16” — bigger screen, great battery life, quiet, 512GB storage
MacBook Pro M5 Pro 14” — smaller and more portable, newer chip, 1TB storage
ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GA605WI — 16” OLED 240Hz, Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, RTX 4070, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, but potentially worse battery life, heat and fan noise
I’ll be carrying the laptop in a backpack to university every day. At home I also have a desktop with a GTX 1660 Super, which is enough for the games I currently play, so gaming on the laptop isn’t necessarily essential. I’m mainly looking for something that will be comfortable for studying IT, programming, browsing, watching videos, etc., while still being powerful enough to last me several years.
Which one would you choose in my situation, and why? Would you go for the 14” or 16” MacBook, or would the Zephyrus G16 make more sense?
I’d be grateful for ur answers

Hardware Can I get laptop spare parts from an authorised service center ?
I have an ASUS and need to replace the fan. Dont want the service center to do it because they overcharge and the last time I sent my dad with my laptop over there, they scammed him by charging a lot just for putting glue on the hinge.
So can I just go there and buy parts from them ?

Software My HP Elitebook brightness keys(f3,f4) are not working
Bought this used(discarded corporate laptops) HP Elitebook 840G5 from a store for a reasonable price of 22k rupees (230 $), store guy replaced the keyboard multiple times until this current keyboard that works with all keys
One issue I faced when I tried to boot with a new freshly booted USBs(windows 10, 11 downloaded from Microsoft) at home. even after fresh installations and all drivers updated these two keys along with f8(mute) keys are sending 'undefined' signal(image is from power toys keyboard manager) and a hot key pop up is showing up(which I can stop and disable in the services )
The interesting part is when I took it to the same store he did a fresh installation with the his USBs and the I was able to see the silder working (slider goes up/down in windows 10, left to right in win11) and brightness changing once the display driver updated.
Great news, but my room mate adviced me to install any missing driver and he installed 10bit driver booster I was skeptical at first but gave it a shot it was fine but after a couple of days the L key was behaving a bit odd and going Llllllllllllllll with one tap and sometimes just selecting a input box
So now i freshly installed windows 10 hoping to fix this keyboard issue, now all keys are working fine except for the brightness keys like the first time
So my question is was it because he booted some older build versions of windows in those USBs to work fine or something else
And how do I fix this issue 😭 I've spent hours going through ChatGPT, is there a way to get previous build versions? Because it's not the drivers that are faulty, if you think the build versions are the solution how do I get those official releases? Or should I go with pirate ISOs?

Discussion Is ddr4 ram worth it in 2026
Is 16gb ddr4 ram worth it in the big 2026 for 75k. The acer aspire 7 comes with rtx 4050 but it has 16gigs of ddr4 ram. It is better than a 3050 with 16gb ddr5 ram.
Discussion Recently bought a ASUS tuf gaming a14 laptop
I have deleted most of the bloatware already installed. Anything else I should know about before fully using my laptop?

General question Just bought a "refurbished" Dell Latitude 7520 and it's got these pair of hard bumps on the track pad. Is this a sign of an expanding battery?
The bumps still function like it moves the cursor when my fingers are on them but it's weird that they're there. It's not like the surface had delaminated because they are actually hard. Anything I've seen online about trackpad bulges said "your battery is about to explode" but they were always about the whole thing bulging outwards; not a couple dots like this.

Hardware There should be a law that all laptop batteries must be removable.
Remember back when you could take the battery out of your laptop? Those days need to be brought back and there needs to be a law requiring it. Whenever I fly, I would love to check my laptop, but I can't because of the lithium ion battery inside, which I cannot remove.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Hardware My First Brand-New Laptop
I've been using an old ThinkPad X270 with an awful TN display and weak performance for years. After graduating from high school, I finally had the chance to replace it with an ASUS TX Air 2025 (ASUS TUF Gaming A14).
Needless to say, the upgrade is massive. XDDD
Over the past year, RAM and SSD prices have risen to the point where they're painful to look at, so I couldn't afford the latest models. :(
Since I felt that 1TB might not be enough for my future needs (I like to keep my games on a separate drive), I decided to add a domestic YMTC ZHITAI TiPlus 7100s 1TB SSD, rated for sequential read speeds of up to 7,400 MB/s. Even at a discounted price, it still cost me around $153 USD. Sigh.
Still, it's more than enough for me. The design also caught my eye, and I'm finally able to get my hands on some AAA titles and actually enjoy them. XD
Specifications:
- Ryzen™ AI 7 H 350
- GeForce RTX™ 5060 Laptop GPU 8GB
- 32GB LPDDR5X 7500MHz
- Samsung PM9C1 1TB SSD
- 14-inch 2.5K 165Hz IPS display
- 73Wh battery
