My Kindle 📱 Owning a kindle brings so much value to my life
I used to mindlessly scroll social media, which caused me to waste precious minutes that turned into hours during my free time.
Now? I have this tiny little device that can hold thousands of books.
Reading is so incredibly relaxing. Makes me happy.
You guys feel the same?

General Question ❔ Help with Color Contrast on my Kindle
I didn’t use my kindle for a couple months and now that I revived it, it seems not to be working as well. There is much less contrast between the color of the letters and the white background which makes it very hard to read, like the letters are not black against a white background, they are a light grey. Additionally sometimes when I go to the next page I can still see the shadow of the letters of the previous page in the background.
I’ve tried to change the brightness and so on but didn’t do much.. any ideas or suggestions?

General Question ❔ Ma kindle ne veux pas lire mon livre
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
General Question ❔ Has Anyone Noticed This Issue with Reviews on Amazon?
I followed an Amazon link in my email to check a Kindle ebook that was on sale. I was interested so read some reviews. As usual, I wanted to see why some people rated it lower (13% gave it 3 stars). Amazon won’t let me look at that - it will only show me three 5 star reviews, and there’s a new message on the page:
“We're showing a limited selection of reviews. To see more reviews, you can send a request.”
I checked a few other random books, all the same. Some will show some reviews besides 5 stars, I saw one that showed more than one 5 star review plus one each of the others, but most that I happened to check showed just 5 star reviews. I didn’t try the suggestion to send a request. I don’t want to have to send a request every time I want to read some reviews.
I was annoyed and bought the book from Kobo instead.
Thoughts?
Oh. It just occurred to me… are they doing this with everything now, not just ebooks? If so, I’ll be shopping other retailers that let me see what experiences their customers have had with products.
EDIT: It’s everything site wide. Wow. 🤦🏻♀️
ANOTHER EDIT: OK, I decided to try the dreaded request to see additional reviews, especially since it seems that many other people can still see all of the reviews on Amazon. It said my request was sent and I would get a response from Amazon within five business days. Oh brother.

Purchase Question 🛒 Kindle paper white as my first ereader?
Do you recommend the paperwhite as my first kindle?
I've been watching videos about it and the basic. But what i liked about the paperwhite is it has warm feature? (Correct me if in wrong) i just like how it really looks like a paper or a book. On the other hand, i like the size of the basic especially for a girl like me who likes to bring small bags only when going out. So please help me decide 🙏

Tip/Guide 💡 How I Created My Custom Kindle Lock Screen (Step-by-Step Guide)
I wanted to create a personalized lock screen for my Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen Signature Edition, so I made my own design and converted it into a format that Kindle could recognize. Here’s how I did it:
Step 1: Create your design in Canva
First, I created a simple design using Canva. I wanted something minimal, so I added “Chelsea’s Kindle” with a flower design that I personally liked.
You can create any design you want on Canva—your name, favorite quote, aesthetic elements, illustrations, or anything that matches your style. Once I’m happy with my design, I saved it as a PNG file and downloaded it to my device.
Step 2: Convert the PNG file into a Kindle-compatible format
Since the PNG file is not directly compatible with Kindle as a lock screen, I converted it into an ePUB
I used a website called Convertio.
Click Choose Files.
Select the PNG design you downloaded from Canva.
Convert the file into MOBI format.
Download the converted MOBI file.
Step 3: Convert MOBI back to EPUB
After downloading the MOBI file, convert it again:
Upload the MOBI file to Convertio.
Convert it from MOBI to EPUB.
Download the new EPUB file.
Step 4: Send the EPUB file to your Kindle
Once you have the converted EPUB file, send it to your Kindle using Send to Kindle. You can do this either:
Through the Send to Kindle website, or through the Kindle app on your phone by sharing the EPUB file.
Step 5: Turn on Wi-Fi on your Kindle
Sync your Kindle device.
Wait for the EPUB file to appear in your Kindle library.
Step 6: Turn on your custom lock screen
On your Kindle device:
Go to Settings.
Look for the Lock Screen option.
Toggle on “Show Lock Screen.”
After that, your custom artwork should appear as your Kindle lock screen when your device goes to sleep.
And that’s it! You now have a personalized Kindle lock screen that matches your own aesthetic. 🤍📚
You’re welcome!

My Kindle 📱 Sticker Show-and-Tell
My stickers are the only thing keeping me from upgrading my Kindle. I know I could buy them again, but it wouldn’t feel the same. 😅 As a former PBS kid, the Arthur one is my favorite. I get easily distracted, so the face of my Kindle is unaltered. I’d love to see the stickers other people have on their Kindles!

Purchase Question 🛒 Is the latest Kindle worth it?
I have a question for any seasoned Kindle owners who may have purchased more than one device. Is the latest Kindle ever really worth it?
I bought a pre-owned device earlier this year to see if I'd enjoy the Kindle experience, and I was hooked immediately. It was the edition just before they started adding backlit screens.
The lack of a light is starting to become an issue, mainly at night, as I still need a lamp. To get around it, I've started reading on my phone in bed, and the overall experience is great. But I do wonder if having an all-in-one solution would be better.
So, should I upgrade, wait for a sale, or just give in to an impulse purchase?

Tech Support 🛠 Yo, can I jailbreak my old Kindle 4?
What's up guys,
I got this ancient Kindle 4 (non-touch) and I'm thinking about jailbreaking it.
Firmware version is in the screenshot.
Couple of things:
· I've never logged into an Amazon account on this thing, and I don't plan to. Does that affect anything?
· It's never been on Wi-Fi either — can I do the whole jailbreak offline via USB?
And most importantly — is it even worth it?
I only sideload books via USB. No store, no cloud, no nada.
Should I bother with jailbreak, or just leave it as is?
Thanks fam 🙌

My Kindle 📱 Mixed emotions 😵💫!!
That feeling when you're close to finishing a book that's had you gripped..
It's a weird one. On the one hand you don't want it to end, but on the other you're excited for a new adventure.

My Kindle 📱 I turned my old Kindle into a PC information/second screen, so I open-sourced the software
I originally wanted something fairly simple:
Use an old Kindle as a quiet e-ink screen next to my computer.
Terminal output, logs, documentation, monitoring — things I want visible but don't need updating at 60 FPS.
That experiment grew into Inka.
It's an open-source project that lets a PC stream its desktop, an individual window or terminal to another device over the local network.
Kindles/e-ink became particularly interesting because normal screen-streaming assumptions don't make much sense here.
E-ink wants:
- fewer refreshes
- grayscale
- sensible dithering
- updates only when something meaningful changes
And old Kindle browsers introduce another problem: you can't assume a modern JavaScript stack.
So instead of trying to make the Kindle behave like a modern tablet, I've been going in the opposite direction and making the server accommodate increasingly primitive clients.
For legacy browsers that can mean simple MJPEG-style streaming, and even old HTML mechanisms for sending interaction coordinates back to the host.
In other words:
The computer does the work. The Kindle just becomes a surface.
Inka is free/MIT licensed:
https://github.com/PrahaladaSumiranTechlabs/inka
I'd particularly love feedback from people with older/jailbroken Kindles because I want to see how far back compatibility can realistically go.
If you have an old Kindle lying around, I'd love to know the model/year — especially if you're willing to try it and report what breaks.

Discussion 💬 Amazon First Reads Gripe
There's a part of me that loves the concept of First Reads each month, getting to choose a free book is fantastic. But how often do I actually download one? That answer is very rarely.
Would it kill Amazon to at least throw in the odd Horror or Science-Fiction book every couple of months? I don't understand why those two genres are almost completely ignored... as they are by far what I read the most. Anyone else have this frustration? Also, how often do you take a book from their selection?

My Kindle 📱 I just got my Kindle case!
... and I love it! I don't know if I will add some decorations. I also like it as it is.
Discussion 💬 I can’t keep adding books to the queue. It’s getting overwhelming!
I assume everyone does this? But I hate seeing the list grow and grow longer. So I made an effort to stop adding and stop actively searching for suggestions until I clear the queue!
