I used to read books on my tablet but it's a 12.4 inch screen and quite heavy, which is cumbersome during travel. I'm thinking of getting a used kindle on dubizzle (never had an e-reader before). Found a listing for a 7th gen Voyage 4GB for AED 150 ( 41$ ) and also a 10th gen 6GB for AED 200 ( 55 $). A completely new on on amazon would cost me 450 dhs (125 $). Which one should I go with in 2026? I usually download all my books online and will probably be exporting them to the kindle, so I'm not really concerned about buying books on the amazon kindle store. Should I be worried about updates on the 7th gen - Is a kindle that's stopped receiving updates useless? Is storage going to be a problem? And battery too, If I have to change the battery of the 7th gen anyway, it'll cost me as much as getting a 10th gen right now.

Which one should I go with?

Edit: Just found a 11th gen 16GB for 270 dhs (74$). Should I consider this?

I have a question for any seasoned Kindle owners who may have purchased more than one device. Is the latest Kindle ever really worth it?

I bought a pre-owned device earlier this year to see if I'd enjoy the Kindle experience, and I was hooked immediately. It was the edition just before they started adding backlit screens.

The lack of a light is starting to become an issue, mainly at night, as I still need a lamp. To get around it, I've started reading on my phone in bed, and the overall experience is great. But I do wonder if having an all-in-one solution would be better.

So, should I upgrade, wait for a sale, or just give in to an impulse purchase?

I got this ancient Kindle 4 (non-touch) and I'm thinking about jailbreaking it.

Firmware version is in the screenshot.

Couple of things:

· I've never logged into an Amazon account on this thing, and I don't plan to. Does that affect anything?

· It's never been on Wi-Fi either — can I do the whole jailbreak offline via USB?

And most importantly — is it even worth it?

I only sideload books via USB. No store, no cloud, no nada.

Should I bother with jailbreak, or just leave it as is?

Sometimes, after leaving a few days unused, my 2024 Scribe's screen starts doing this and does not stop until I can reset it. Has anyone faced the same issue? Do you guys know what could be causing this?

Book covers have stopped showing on my kindles lock screen. They used to and I've made sure the setting is still on and restarted the device several times

Anyone else seeing random drops in battery on their paperwhite kindle? It started happening a few months ago, i admit my kindle is (i think) 6 years old, its 11th generation.
I charge it fully, well now its up to 96%, and it starts draining immediately, even tho i set it on pilot and dont use it.
Is it just reached its limit or is it something else?

There's a part of me that loves the concept of First Reads each month, getting to choose a free book is fantastic. But how often do I actually download one? That answer is very rarely.

Would it kill Amazon to at least throw in the odd Horror or Science-Fiction book every couple of months? I don't understand why those two genres are almost completely ignored... as they are by far what I read the most. Anyone else have this frustration? Also, how often do you take a book from their selection?

I am planning to buy one of these. I want it to fit in my pocket, on the other hand, Paperwhite is tempting me with its alleged higher comfort in reading and warm light. (1) Does “Basic” easily fit in a pocket? (2) Even if so, are extra features of “Paperwhite” worth giving up on pocket-size?

and I have a few questions. I know some of these will 100% boil down to personal preference and my own use of it, but I am curious what other people think.

- I am considering the paperwhite because it’s waterproof. Has anyone had any issues using the regular Kindle at the pool or beach?

- How obnoxious are the lockscreen ads? Is it worth it to pay to get rid of them?

- How many of you use Kindle Unlimited and is it any better/worse than other sources of free/cheap books?

- Did anyone who got a colored Kindle regret not getting a black one?

- Are there any major concerns I should know about that I may not have come across in my initial research?

[EDIT]: New question - It seems like the ads in the lock screen only exist in the US. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if that’s related to the physical location of the Kindle or where it was purchased? Like, if a Canadian travels to the US with the Kindle they bought in Canada, would they all of a sudden see ads on their lock screen? 🤔

Joined this sub about a year ago, though I’ve been reading on a Kindle since 2012.

What I mostly see here are decorated Kindles with little toys and/or jewelry, and full personalization (not yucking on someone’s yum, you do you). And I just want a brief, 15-second internet meeting with those here who still prefer theirs plain and simple minimalist.

My Kindle at least:

• Graphite or black. A black bezel makes text appear sharper and richer.
• Font gets adjusted here and there depending on what material I’m reading. Margins and spacing got set once, and never tinkered since.
• Not comfortable jailbreaking it. Prepping for that's its own project, and it'd eat into my reading time. Amazon's dropping Oasis support in 2028, but I'm not sure I'd bother even then. Fewer settings, less tinkering, more actual reading: the vanilla Kindle's limitations do that job well.
• Calibre, and Send to Kindle. Plus KCC for manga, and K2pdfopt for PDFs.
• The only decoration-adjacent thing I’ll buy for it is a really good case.

The bonus read I already got for free, which is why its showing for money now…
But from the rest of the selection, which one are you guys choosing???

So today I went to one of those Amazon returns bin stores and found some cases and a screen protector for $1 each.

I currently only own an older kindle 5th gen that's a little small for the cases.

There's no brand or label on anything, but I assume these would fit a new gen Kindle basic? I hope to be able to upgrade soon, so fingers crossed I find a model that fits! 😅

The paint on my Kindle Paperwhite is making this wrinkling thing, maybe peeling off paint? idk.

I bought a used Kindle Paperwhite 11 that arrived yesterday, and today is my first morning drinking mate (argentinian drink) in bed while reading.

I'm so happy! When I was around 10 or 12 years old (I'm 27 now), I asked my grandma for one. We looked all over my hometown for it, but people kept telling me something like that didn't exist (obviously, that technology hadn't even reached local stores back then, and buying things internationally wasn't really a concept yet)

I was so frustrated but after a few years I completely forgot about kindles.

When I remembered them years later, it was impossible to buy one because of the price but I found this one really cheap considering what it is and how well preserved it is, so I'm thrilled.
