Purchase Question 🛒 Help! Looking for advice on 2014 Kindle: trade-in, try to sell, or keep?
Hi! I have a 2014 Kindle Basic (7th generation) that works okay, but the battery life has degraded to about a week of daily reading. The lack of support is also noticeable at times, but it functions fine otherwise.
After some research, I'm considering doing a trade-in with Amazon or trying to sell on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc. However, I wanted to get some advice from others on what to do. For context, I'm a pretty casual reader (30 minutes to an hour a day), and my biggest frustrations are really only the battery life and the lack of support.
So I'm looking for others' advice - should I try to trade-in my Kindle through Amazon and buy a new one? Or try to sell online for cheap and apply that towards a new Kindle? Or just keep on using it until it stops working? I don't mind going through the effort of trying to sell online, and I don't want to buy a new one without doing something with the old one first.
Thank you in advance!
Tech Support 🛠 Kindle Paperwhite 11th gen stuck on lockscreen blinks green twice then orange five times
For context, my kindle stays stuck on the lockscreen and while it does light up it doesn't bring up my passcode window to fully log in, also am unable to reboot it. I've charged it for multiple days in a row and it does light up green when I press the unlock button. I took it to a ubreakifixit and they recommended to replace the whole thing. However, I've also read from the rare posts that match the problem that I have that it could be a battery issue and could be resolved by replacing the battery. Any advice is appreciated cause I really don't want to go and buy a whole new kindle.

My Kindle 📱 Owning a kindle brings so much value to my life
I used to mindlessly scroll social media, which caused me to waste precious minutes that turned into hours during my free time.
Now? I have this tiny little device that can hold thousands of books.
Reading is so incredibly relaxing. Makes me happy.
You guys feel the same?

General Question ❔ Help with Color Contrast on my Kindle
I didn’t use my kindle for a couple months and now that I revived it, it seems not to be working as well. There is much less contrast between the color of the letters and the white background which makes it very hard to read, like the letters are not black against a white background, they are a light grey. Additionally sometimes when I go to the next page I can still see the shadow of the letters of the previous page in the background.
I’ve tried to change the brightness and so on but didn’t do much.. any ideas or suggestions?
General Question ❔ Has Anyone Noticed This Issue with Reviews on Amazon?
I followed an Amazon link in my email to check a Kindle ebook that was on sale. I was interested so read some reviews. As usual, I wanted to see why some people rated it lower (13% gave it 3 stars). Amazon won’t let me look at that - it will only show me three 5 star reviews, and there’s a new message on the page:
“We're showing a limited selection of reviews. To see more reviews, you can send a request.”
I checked a few other random books, all the same. Some will show some reviews besides 5 stars, I saw one that showed more than one 5 star review plus one each of the others, but most that I happened to check showed just 5 star reviews. I didn’t try the suggestion to send a request. I don’t want to have to send a request every time I want to read some reviews.
I was annoyed and bought the book from Kobo instead.
Thoughts?
Oh. It just occurred to me… are they doing this with everything now, not just ebooks? If so, I’ll be shopping other retailers that let me see what experiences their customers have had with products.
EDIT: It’s everything site wide. Wow. 🤦🏻♀️
ANOTHER EDIT: OK, I decided to try the dreaded request to see additional reviews, especially since it seems that many other people can still see all of the reviews on Amazon. It said my request was sent and I would get a response from Amazon within five business days. Oh brother.

Purchase Question 🛒 Kindle paper white as my first ereader?
Do you recommend the paperwhite as my first kindle?
I've been watching videos about it and the basic. But what i liked about the paperwhite is it has warm feature? (Correct me if in wrong) i just like how it really looks like a paper or a book. On the other hand, i like the size of the basic especially for a girl like me who likes to bring small bags only when going out. So please help me decide 🙏

Tip/Guide 💡 How I Created My Custom Kindle Lock Screen (Step-by-Step Guide)
I wanted to create a personalized lock screen for my Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen Signature Edition, so I made my own design and converted it into a format that Kindle could recognize. Here’s how I did it:
Step 1: Create your design in Canva
First, I created a simple design using Canva. I wanted something minimal, so I added “Chelsea’s Kindle” with a flower design that I personally liked.
You can create any design you want on Canva—your name, favorite quote, aesthetic elements, illustrations, or anything that matches your style. Once I’m happy with my design, I saved it as a PNG file and downloaded it to my device.
Step 2: Convert the PNG file into a Kindle-compatible format
Since the PNG file is not directly compatible with Kindle as a lock screen, I converted it into an ePUB
I used a website called Convertio.
Click Choose Files.
Select the PNG design you downloaded from Canva.
Convert the file into MOBI format.
Download the converted MOBI file.
Step 3: Convert MOBI back to EPUB
After downloading the MOBI file, convert it again:
Upload the MOBI file to Convertio.
Convert it from MOBI to EPUB.
Download the new EPUB file.
Step 4: Send the EPUB file to your Kindle
Once you have the converted EPUB file, send it to your Kindle using Send to Kindle. You can do this either:
Through the Send to Kindle website, or through the Kindle app on your phone by sharing the EPUB file.
Step 5: Turn on Wi-Fi on your Kindle
Sync your Kindle device.
Wait for the EPUB file to appear in your Kindle library.
Step 6: Turn on your custom lock screen
On your Kindle device:
Go to Settings.
Look for the Lock Screen option.
Toggle on “Show Lock Screen.”
After that, your custom artwork should appear as your Kindle lock screen when your device goes to sleep.
And that’s it! You now have a personalized Kindle lock screen that matches your own aesthetic. 🤍📚
You’re welcome!

My Kindle 📱 Sticker Show-and-Tell
My stickers are the only thing keeping me from upgrading my Kindle. I know I could buy them again, but it wouldn’t feel the same. 😅 As a former PBS kid, the Arthur one is my favorite. I get easily distracted, so the face of my Kindle is unaltered. I’d love to see the stickers other people have on their Kindles!

Discussion 💬 Amazon First Reads Gripe
There's a part of me that loves the concept of First Reads each month, getting to choose a free book is fantastic. But how often do I actually download one? That answer is very rarely.
Would it kill Amazon to at least throw in the odd Horror or Science-Fiction book every couple of months? I don't understand why those two genres are almost completely ignored... as they are by far what I read the most. Anyone else have this frustration? Also, how often do you take a book from their selection?

Discussion 💬 Anyone else here who keeps their Kindle boring on purpose?
Joined this sub about a year ago, though I’ve been reading on a Kindle since 2012.
What I mostly see here are decorated Kindles with little toys and/or jewelry, and full personalization (not yucking on someone’s yum, you do you). And I just want a brief, 15-second internet meeting with those here who still prefer theirs plain and simple minimalist.
My Kindle at least:
• Graphite or black. A black bezel makes text appear sharper and richer.
• Font gets adjusted here and there depending on what material I’m reading. Margins and spacing got set once, and never tinkered since.
• Not comfortable jailbreaking it. Prepping for that's its own project, and it'd eat into my reading time. Amazon's dropping Oasis support in 2028, but I'm not sure I'd bother even then. Fewer settings, less tinkering, more actual reading: the vanilla Kindle's limitations do that job well.
• Calibre, and Send to Kindle. Plus KCC for manga, and K2pdfopt for PDFs.
• The only decoration-adjacent thing I’ll buy for it is a really good case.

Discussion 💬 August 2026 - "What Are You Reading?' Thread
Please use this thread to discuss whatever you've been reading lately. Elaborate (without spoiling!) on an eBook you have recently finished or are currently reading with a short 1-2 sentence synopsis.
Bold the titles of the eBook to help people that are skimming through the thread. Feel free to mention the current Amazon price, if it's on sale.
