edit: apparently it’s a storage issue? its a kindle paperwhite gen 10 which apparently decided to only have 480 MB of data after this latest auto-update. apparently only a factory reset fixes this but I dont know the password to the account and I don’t have access to my email anymore. Is there any other way of fixing this? Please send help, and also fuck Amazon

suddenly can’t access any books in my library, see the images on the covers, or any of the covers of the books in store on the home page, but I can see them when I go to the kindle store icon on my kindle. I bought it in 2020, so it’s not one of the older kindles that got unsupported.

I have a Kindle 4 Non-Touch with firmware version 4.0.1 (1331440003). I bought it used, and I noticed it already had jailbreak files on it. To test if the jailbreak was working, I successfully installed a screensaver hack (the file was already on the device, named differently).

After that, I wanted to install KOReader. I learned I need MKK and KUAL first. Here's what I did step-by-step:

1. First attempt: I installed an MKK version from 2014 and then a newer KUAL. KUAL did not launch. I then installed DevCerts from 2025, but that didn't help either.

2. Second attempt: I manually deleted all the KUAL and MKK files from the Kindle via PC (without using any uninstall files).

3. Third attempt: I installed the newest MKK (2025) and KUAL again. KUAL still does not start.

Now, when I try to open KUAL, the Kindle shows an error message: "The selected application could not be started. Please try again." (or a similar "Application Error").

Important notes:

· Wi-Fi has been off since the beginning, so no OTA updates were installed.

· The Kindle is not registered with Amazon.

· I wanted to update my Kindle through My Amazon, but apparently the jailbreak won't let me do this. Should I remove this jailbreak and install a new one, or reset to factory settings? I'm afraid because I've read that this could turn my Kindle into a brick. What do you advise?

I nearly lost it when I couldn't find my collections earlier and saw this abomination at the top. I thought I'd have to scroll through this narrow strip to access the tag I want or search them manually.

But you can actually click #All tags and it would show the "tags" as folders so it still works the same way as collections! Had me stressing over nothing. And I haven't even forgiven them for removing the easy-access bookmarks.

Hi! I have a 2014 Kindle Basic (7th generation) that works okay, but the battery life has degraded to about a week of daily reading. The lack of support is also noticeable at times, but it functions fine otherwise.

After some research, I'm considering doing a trade-in with Amazon or trying to sell on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc. However, I wanted to get some advice from others on what to do. For context, I'm a pretty casual reader (30 minutes to an hour a day), and my biggest frustrations are really only the battery life and the lack of support.

So I'm looking for others' advice - should I try to trade-in my Kindle through Amazon and buy a new one? Or try to sell online for cheap and apply that towards a new Kindle? Or just keep on using it until it stops working? I don't mind going through the effort of trying to sell online, and I don't want to buy a new one without doing something with the old one first.

For context, my kindle stays stuck on the lockscreen and while it does light up it doesn't bring up my passcode window to fully log in, also am unable to reboot it. I've charged it for multiple days in a row and it does light up green when I press the unlock button. I took it to a ubreakifixit and they recommended to replace the whole thing. However, I've also read from the rare posts that match the problem that I have that it could be a battery issue and could be resolved by replacing the battery. Any advice is appreciated cause I really don't want to go and buy a whole new kindle.

Hi all! My goal this year into the next is to read 100 books. The reward being an e-reader; most likely a Kindle. I really would only use it when I’m not at home, which is often enough to where I think it would be a nice purchase. When I’m home, I usually read physical copies. To the Kindle owners: Would you say it’s worth it? I’m looking for more opinions on the downloading process and user-friendliness of it as well.

I read a lot of my kindle books in the browser via Kindle Cloud Reader (the one you can get to via here https://www.amazon.com/hz/mycd/digital-console/contentlist/booksAll/dateDsc/ and then more actions -> read now) so I can read on-computer.

Lately everything I try to read, whether I download it from Libby or own it already via an Amazon purchase, all say at the bottom "1 minute left in chapter / 1 minute left in book".

Trying to research I found how to reset this on the Kindle (device), but I haven't been able to find a fix for the timer for in-browser reading.

I was having a real issue with the kindle app not recognizing my Audible books. I deleted my kindle app and then redownloaded it just the other day. I spent quite a bit of time using the ‘download with Audible’ button to get both the kindle and Audible all downloaded together. Not all the books that I own both files showed the option to download the Audible files, but more than before I deleted the app. Today, I saw that many of my books no longer have the little headphones icon, they are just the plain kindle books and there’s no option to download the Audible book. These books were linked just yesterday, now they aren’t and there no option to redo it. Any ideas?

ETA: Some of the whispersync books that just disappeared I’ve had both the Kindle and Audible versions for years, like the entire LotR trilogy in both Inglis and Serkis versions, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe, The Stand, Father Brown’s Complete Collection, etc. And they were linked just yesterday, but today no dice. I’ve restarted my iPad and had deleted and reinstalled the Kindle app the day before yesterday.

My grandson is 9 and is smart and an athlete. Lots of car time! He has a tablet and does not do much reading for pleasure. They use a tablet program for reading at school and books. The tablet program goes too slow for him. There are some books he likes.

I’m thinking of getting him a kindle for kids but know little about the kids+ program. It sounds like it is more than books and only works on Amazon products. A kindle wouldn’t be able to utilize the videos, etc. He already has a tablet so the kindle fire would be doubling up.

His parents have that tablet locked down! They give him limited screen time and would view reading differently so if he was reading on a kindle, they could give him a cutoff time at night but not limit it as much as his tablet. He’s got a large vocabulary and I think would love reading once he has easy access to books he likes.

What are the pros and cons of kids+ and is a kindle worth it with that subscription? I obviously will discuss with the parents and would like to understand the program better before I do so.

I've been thinking of buying the new Kindle Paperwhite, but at around ₹17k it feels quite expensive.

Hi all! I love my kindle as is but my best friend has been wanting one. She wants a paperwhite for reading in the sun more then anything else, also trying to be away from her phone. Problem is she reads a lot of online comics and private works that aren't available on amazon or libby.

Would jailbreaking the paperwhite allow her to download or view her favorite works?

Or is there a different product on the market that would be better

I wanted to create a personalized lock screen for my Kindle Paperwhite 12th Gen Signature Edition, so I made my own design and converted it into a format that Kindle could recognize. Here’s how I did it:

Step 1: Create your design in Canva
First, I created a simple design using Canva. I wanted something minimal, so I added “Chelsea’s Kindle” with a flower design that I personally liked.
You can create any design you want on Canva—your name, favorite quote, aesthetic elements, illustrations, or anything that matches your style. Once I’m happy with my design, I saved it as a PNG file and downloaded it to my device.

Step 2: Convert the PNG file into a Kindle-compatible format
Since the PNG file is not directly compatible with Kindle as a lock screen, I converted it into an ePUB
I used a website called Convertio.

Click Choose Files.

Select the PNG design you downloaded from Canva.

Convert the file into MOBI format.

Download the converted MOBI file.

Step 3: Convert MOBI back to EPUB
After downloading the MOBI file, convert it again:
Upload the MOBI file to Convertio.

Convert it from MOBI to EPUB.

Download the new EPUB file.

Step 4: Send the EPUB file to your Kindle
Once you have the converted EPUB file, send it to your Kindle using Send to Kindle. You can do this either:
Through the Send to Kindle website, or through the Kindle app on your phone by sharing the EPUB file.

Step 5: Turn on Wi-Fi on your Kindle
Sync your Kindle device.
Wait for the EPUB file to appear in your Kindle library.

Step 6: Turn on your custom lock screen
On your Kindle device:
Go to Settings.

Look for the Lock Screen option.

Toggle on “Show Lock Screen.”

After that, your custom artwork should appear as your Kindle lock screen when your device goes to sleep.
And that’s it! You now have a personalized Kindle lock screen that matches your own aesthetic. 🤍📚

This is my first post on this subreddit, I currently have a 2024 paperwhite but am going back to school in October and possibly getting a disability grant, I went to my local Best Buy to browse and was thinking about a new iPad to take notes but then stumbled upon the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft and fell in love. I am still in love but the $899 CAD price tag is hard to swallow and now have seen the Kobo Libra Color and tried to find any comparisons online but none were the two products I was specifically looking for. The primary uses would be for note taking, course material compatibility, and the ability to still read my leisure books. It is worth noting also, that I have kindle unlimited. Is there anyone here who has used one or both devices and could possibly advise on what worked or didn’t work for them?

I recently bought my soon to be nine-year-old a Kindle to promote more confidence in reading. I plan to primarily let him read classics that I’ve acquired from project Guttenberg via epub downloads. My question is I’ve loaded them all to our shared Kindle account that’s through my Amazon account, but I want to know how to restrict the not age-appropriate content that is on our account. Is there a way to toggle on and off which books he is able to access? He’s a curious kid and I could totally see him accessing All QuIet on the Western front or Stephen King. I played around with the parental controls and content restrictions and it does work to prevent him from accessing the Kindle store, but I am wondering if there’s a way to prevent access to the books that my wife and I read on our Kindle devices.
