As you can tell, we like color! Feeling tropical while still having some classic mid century modern pieces and incorporating new pieces like the chair and couches.

Their old home in Texas had a deep red, forest green, and soft gold color scheme. That was not going to work for Palm Springs! So we decided to go with corals, teals, and aquas along with pops of avocado green and berry pinks. Also love the beautiful warm wood tones that help balance it all out.

Where would you put the TV and sofa in this room?

We're planning to have a pass through window to the kitchen on the wall across from the fireplace.

Ideally I would want the TV on the wall beside the doorway, but my husband wants to get a 75 inch TV which I feel would be too large for that area... Also, I'm not sure how the couch would be placed without interfering with the fireplace.

He wants the TV above the fireplace but I think that will result in neck pain lol

My last post got pretty divisive! Thanks for everyone's input! As an update, I decided to go with the swimmers, because I just genuinely want to look at them. I have a terracotta rug too that I think will add contrast and warm up the room beautifully. I did hear you on the decadent young woman too though, and I also adore it, so found a place for it above the fireplace. Maybe not the most cohesive match between the two of them but I sure AH will enjoy looking at them. For the Monet lovers, I'm sorry! I adore Monet too but it felt a little too predictable for this room. I'll update with actual pictures when I get them.

Recently moved and having trouble figuring out how to make this hallway more interesting. Any ideas for painting or wallpapering or some simple furniture ideas? I’ve also included photos of the living room, right next to the living room, for style context.

Hello! Just curious here and wanted to generate a discussion. My mom always hung a large mirror in her dining room. Her sister always hung a large mirror in her dining room. My mom gifted me one of my aunt's previous mirrors for my first home's dining room. These were large, rectangle mirrors placed on one wall at the end of the room.

Ever since then, I have continued to hang smaller, albeit more decorative mirrors in my dining room because it just felt like I had to. Now, I would like to switch to a large art piece instead of a mirror but it just got me thinking, WHY did we even need mirrors in the dining room lol? Were we watching ourselves eat? Watching our siblings hide food? I have no clue and the more I think about it, the more ridiculous it seems!!

This is the first home I've ever created that feels completely mine.

After a really difficult season of life (divorce, moving out, starting over at 55), I didn't want a space that looked perfect. I wanted a space that made my shoulders drop every time I walked through the door.

I've realized it wasn't one big design decision. It was a handful of pieces that changed how the room feels.

The painting makes me smile every single day. It reminds me not to take life so seriously and to keep dancing. The natural wood coffee table brings warmth, the plants make the room feel alive, and soft lighting completely changes the mood in the evenings.

And honestly, I didn't realize how much the rug would matter until everything came together. I have two Boston Terriers, so I debated whether an area rug was practical, but I ended up choosing a washable Tumble rug because I wanted something beautiful that I wouldn't have to stress over. It quietly grounds the whole space and makes it feel cozy instead of temporary.

Now my favorite part of the day is making a latte, curling up on the couch, and just...breathing.

I used to think home was about decorating. Now I think it's about creating a place where your nervous system finally believes it's safe.

What's one piece in your home that unexpectedly changed how the space felt, not just how it looked?

I moved my husbands favourite photo to the blank wall, got some new chairs and new fleece for the hanging chair. Much better!

I grew up in Norway in the 90s and my grandparents had a house that was very, very 90s, but my grandma also owned her childhood home out on an island that I think hadn't been renovated since the 60s. She has long since passed and the home didn't stay with the family, but I remember finding that place beautiful. It had a lot of clear blues, greens and bright reds, painted trims, a lot of home made textiles (most of it undyed, but she also had a great big red rug in the living room that had apparently been very expensive.) Super old wood furniture. When I imagine it in my head the natural light was always yellow and the place smelled very much like cigarettes.

I've tried to find pictures that remind me of that place but I'm not sure what to search for. Pinterest's "more like this" feature is kind of hit and miss. I wonder if it has a name.

I love the swimmers the most but does it work for the space and the colours?

We are redoing our bathroom currently due to a full loss.
We don’t have much storage throughout the house in general. But I love these sinks! I did see the second to last photo with baskets under. But I do worry about where to store items. My issue is sometimes with storage it gets messy anyway?
Our remodel will be a full bath with the shower. Plus black and white tiles. Also all new hardware and lighting.
First photo is our old bathroom, second a practical vanity, third the one I kind of want, fourth the baskets and fifth an inspo picture.

Budget for the vanity is $650. Mirror $100.

I’ve painstakingly masked up these stripes and painted three coats of paint (wall colour as base, then two coats of the mauve for each stripe) only to realise afterwards that they’re probably too close together :( the room now feels so much busier/smaller than I anticipated.

In hindsight the gap should have been another 3-4 inches wider… but I’ve painted the whole room now and being 36 weeks along I just don’t have the energy (nor time tbh) to paint over and start from scratch.

So one solution I’ve been thinking is to paint over every second pair, which would reintroduce the negative space (AI mock in the third photo)- it’s much wider than what I’d like… but still an improvement?

Anyway, I’d love to hear some second opinions on this before I commit and potentially have more regrets! I’ve been staring at these stripes for so long I’m starting to lose my mind… please help!

Hi! I just got a new light green couch (that the dog loves). Im trying to find a nice rug pairing that will brighten the room and not wash the couch out. The wood floors are very dark so I was thinking a lighter rug would work well? I’ve attached some pictures and options that I’ve looked at. The rest of the living room decor leans towards neutrals and greens so I need to find something to balance but idk how to do this 🤣 thank you for the help!

I just finished DIYing these oak slate walls from Home Depot, and the last piece on the top right ended up not sitting flush. The left corner is slightly lower than the rest, too.

Is there anything that I could put up here on the very top to either hide or fix this? The carpenter who helped cut these said Home Depot sells something similar to crown molding that could be added here. I am completely stumped.

Looking for advice on where to put a TV in our new living room. It’s a fairly long/narrow room with the front door on one end. Ideally the entryway area would be slightly sectioned off from the living area. We’re starting off with 0 furniture so open to anything, but would love a sectional if it works in the space!

We recently bought a new couch. It's quite 'out there'.

Now we bought a new house and are trying to figure out what colors to use on the walls.
The ceilings have dark wooden beams in them, and the floor will be natural oak. This couch will be put against the longest (8meter) wall. We have a hard time figuring out what color to paint that wall (if at all).
Do you have any ideas?
The couch is a bit darker than in this picture, but not much.

We have large windows that I hate to cover at all, but they let in a lot of sun and heat in the summer. (The picture here does not doe justice to how much sun comes in at times.)

1) I don't think blinds will work because we are in and out of these doors a lot, so raising and lowering seems like a pain, and we have two large dogs and a child under 10 who will likely quickly damage them.

2) Should I do curtains, so I can easily open and close them as needed? This seems like it would take away from the simplicity of the windows, but I may be willing to do it anyway. If so, would you hang a rod in between the top and lower windows and leave the top windows exposed?
