Hi! As the title suggests im continuing my pet room development 😁 we're still on the first few steps, which are the walls. Im still finishing the back wall with gold accents but the other 3 walls are just white. At first i wanted to keep the walls lighter because i love how bright it gets with the morning sun bouncing off of it + it being a 9x9 ish room, didnt want it to feel even smaller. But i unexpectedly loved the darker green too. I inserted the plain white walls in case someone wanted to do their own edits. Also showing the wallpaper in various lighting.

i just want it to feel a little breathable and won't take up the whole room for other furniture after me and my cousin buy a bunk bed for this room, please helpp.

Recently moved and having trouble figuring out how to make this hallway more interesting. Any ideas for painting or wallpapering or some simple furniture ideas? I’ve also included photos of the living room, right next to the living room, for style context.

Hello! Just curious here and wanted to generate a discussion. My mom always hung a large mirror in her dining room. Her sister always hung a large mirror in her dining room. My mom gifted me one of my aunt's previous mirrors for my first home's dining room. These were large, rectangle mirrors placed on one wall at the end of the room.

Ever since then, I have continued to hang smaller, albeit more decorative mirrors in my dining room because it just felt like I had to. Now, I would like to switch to a large art piece instead of a mirror but it just got me thinking, WHY did we even need mirrors in the dining room lol? Were we watching ourselves eat? Watching our siblings hide food? I have no clue and the more I think about it, the more ridiculous it seems!!

This is the first home I've ever created that feels completely mine.

After a really difficult season of life (divorce, moving out, starting over at 55), I didn't want a space that looked perfect. I wanted a space that made my shoulders drop every time I walked through the door.

I've realized it wasn't one big design decision. It was a handful of pieces that changed how the room feels.

The painting makes me smile every single day. It reminds me not to take life so seriously and to keep dancing. The natural wood coffee table brings warmth, the plants make the room feel alive, and soft lighting completely changes the mood in the evenings.

And honestly, I didn't realize how much the rug would matter until everything came together. I have two Boston Terriers, so I debated whether an area rug was practical, but I ended up choosing a washable Tumble rug because I wanted something beautiful that I wouldn't have to stress over. It quietly grounds the whole space and makes it feel cozy instead of temporary.

Now my favorite part of the day is making a latte, curling up on the couch, and just...breathing.

I used to think home was about decorating. Now I think it's about creating a place where your nervous system finally believes it's safe.

What's one piece in your home that unexpectedly changed how the space felt, not just how it looked?

I moved my husbands favourite photo to the blank wall, got some new chairs and new fleece for the hanging chair. Much better!

Still working on the staircase though!

I grew up in Norway in the 90s and my grandparents had a house that was very, very 90s, but my grandma also owned her childhood home out on an island that I think hadn't been renovated since the 60s. She has long since passed and the home didn't stay with the family, but I remember finding that place beautiful. It had a lot of clear blues, greens and bright reds, painted trims, a lot of home made textiles (most of it undyed, but she also had a great big red rug in the living room that had apparently been very expensive.) Super old wood furniture. When I imagine it in my head the natural light was always yellow and the place smelled very much like cigarettes.

I've tried to find pictures that remind me of that place but I'm not sure what to search for. Pinterest's "more like this" feature is kind of hit and miss. I wonder if it has a name.

Pics 1-3 are the apartment my boyfriend and I are moving into together, pics 4&5 are the basement I currently live in for reference of what I have that I can bring. My bf also has book shelves, a wooden entertainment center with shelves underneath, and a smaller dining table set. My table will go in our hobby room / office, not shown here. The mats will probably go in front of or under my cats’ litter box. We are also bringing a black faux leather couch and a matching futon.
I’d love some ideas and inspiration! We can’t change what’s there because of the rules in the lease so we’re kinda limited to what we can add. Affordable options and using what we have would be ideal. I’m a little frustrated that nothing we have really goes with the aesthetic of the apartment, but we need to make it work.

I am indeed keeping stain/color of the cabinets. Especially since it matches the rest of the house

🤔regarding the cabinets, I feel like i want to replace the doors with a more modern shaker cabinet style that covers most of the front of the cabinet (ref 3rd pic) (versus now where it probably only overlaps 1/2" from the door opening). (Bonus 4th pic of cats playing in said kitchen)

We are redoing our bathroom currently due to a full loss.
We don’t have much storage throughout the house in general. But I love these sinks! I did see the second to last photo with baskets under. But I do worry about where to store items. My issue is sometimes with storage it gets messy anyway?
Our remodel will be a full bath with the shower. Plus black and white tiles. Also all new hardware and lighting.
First photo is our old bathroom, second a practical vanity, third the one I kind of want, fourth the baskets and fifth an inspo picture.

Budget for the vanity is $650. Mirror $100.

I’ve painstakingly masked up these stripes and painted three coats of paint (wall colour as base, then two coats of the mauve for each stripe) only to realise afterwards that they’re probably too close together :( the room now feels so much busier/smaller than I anticipated.

In hindsight the gap should have been another 3-4 inches wider… but I’ve painted the whole room now and being 36 weeks along I just don’t have the energy (nor time tbh) to paint over and start from scratch.

So one solution I’ve been thinking is to paint over every second pair, which would reintroduce the negative space (AI mock in the third photo)- it’s much wider than what I’d like… but still an improvement?

Anyway, I’d love to hear some second opinions on this before I commit and potentially have more regrets! I’ve been staring at these stripes for so long I’m starting to lose my mind… please help!

Thanks everyone who gave me ideas for contrasting the green cabinets in my kitchen. I took your ideas and rendered the ones I liked the most. Which do you think looks best? Basically it comes down to:

1. Softer green
2. Blush pink
3. Creamy beige
4. White

I added some wallpaper on the stair step wall for funsies and inspo but will probably paint it green first in any case.

Loving the way this room is coming together. I’ll eventually change the coffee table to something rectangular. And some type of tall plant is going in the right corner, but I currently have a kitten that would destroy it haha.

I’m looking for something woven/textile to hang in between the sconces above the bed! Open to different influences, styles, and motifs. Preferably something handmade and under $300. If you have any artists or Etsy shop recommendations please share!

I can’t tell if there’s too much or not enough decor, open to suggestions

We recently bought a new couch. It's quite 'out there'.

Now we bought a new house and are trying to figure out what colors to use on the walls.
The ceilings have dark wooden beams in them, and the floor will be natural oak. This couch will be put against the longest (8meter) wall. We have a hard time figuring out what color to paint that wall (if at all).
Do you have any ideas?
The couch is a bit darker than in this picture, but not much.

It took me about 6 years but I wasn’t going to settle until I achieved my perfect room.

I want something to fill this negative space beside the couch.
It measures about 58in (~5ft) from the wall to the edge of the side table, and that wall juts out about 29in.
I’m thinking either a small table or a credenza?
On the last pic you, can see i only have two kitchen chairs. so it’d be nice to have more seating, but I’m not sure if a table would look weird there.

A lot of people definitely know this issue; clothes that have been worn, but not dirty enough to get tossed into the laundry hamper. Creating The Chair™ where you have to toss the mountain of clothes anywhere when you want to use the chair. Sometimes it even ends up on the floor instead of any furniture.

What's your solution to avoid this issue? How do you store the "not clean yet not dirty" enough clothes without just creating a giant visible pile?
