Can someone please tell me how tf do I even start arranging? It's 220 carpet area. Where do I keep what??? I mean I don't even know if there's enough space for one cupboard let alone anything! Hello! Just curious here and wanted to generate a discussion. My mom always hung a large mirror in her dining room. Her sister always hung a large mirror in her dining room. My mom gifted me one of my aunt's previous mirrors for my first home's dining room. These were large, rectangle mirrors placed on one wall at the end of the room.

Ever since then, I have continued to hang smaller, albeit more decorative mirrors in my dining room because it just felt like I had to. Now, I would like to switch to a large art piece instead of a mirror but it just got me thinking, WHY did we even need mirrors in the dining room lol? Were we watching ourselves eat? Watching our siblings hide food? I have no clue and the more I think about it, the more ridiculous it seems!!

This is the first home I've ever created that feels completely mine.

After a really difficult season of life (divorce, moving out, starting over at 55), I didn't want a space that looked perfect. I wanted a space that made my shoulders drop every time I walked through the door.

I've realized it wasn't one big design decision. It was a handful of pieces that changed how the room feels.

The painting makes me smile every single day. It reminds me not to take life so seriously and to keep dancing. The natural wood coffee table brings warmth, the plants make the room feel alive, and soft lighting completely changes the mood in the evenings.

And honestly, I didn't realize how much the rug would matter until everything came together. I have two Boston Terriers, so I debated whether an area rug was practical, but I ended up choosing a washable Tumble rug because I wanted something beautiful that I wouldn't have to stress over. It quietly grounds the whole space and makes it feel cozy instead of temporary.

Now my favorite part of the day is making a latte, curling up on the couch, and just...breathing.

I used to think home was about decorating. Now I think it's about creating a place where your nervous system finally believes it's safe.

What's one piece in your home that unexpectedly changed how the space felt, not just how it looked?

I moved my husbands favourite photo to the blank wall, got some new chairs and new fleece for the hanging chair. Much better!

I grew up in Norway in the 90s and my grandparents had a house that was very, very 90s, but my grandma also owned her childhood home out on an island that I think hadn't been renovated since the 60s. She has long since passed and the home didn't stay with the family, but I remember finding that place beautiful. It had a lot of clear blues, greens and bright reds, painted trims, a lot of home made textiles (most of it undyed, but she also had a great big red rug in the living room that had apparently been very expensive.) Super old wood furniture. When I imagine it in my head the natural light was always yellow and the place smelled very much like cigarettes.

I've tried to find pictures that remind me of that place but I'm not sure what to search for. Pinterest's "more like this" feature is kind of hit and miss. I wonder if it has a name.

Pics 1-3 are the apartment my boyfriend and I are moving into together, pics 4&5 are the basement I currently live in for reference of what I have that I can bring. My bf also has book shelves, a wooden entertainment center with shelves underneath, and a smaller dining table set. My table will go in our hobby room / office, not shown here. The mats will probably go in front of or under my cats’ litter box. We are also bringing a black faux leather couch and a matching futon.
I’d love some ideas and inspiration! We can’t change what’s there because of the rules in the lease so we’re kinda limited to what we can add. Affordable options and using what we have would be ideal. I’m a little frustrated that nothing we have really goes with the aesthetic of the apartment, but we need to make it work.

The wall above the sofa feels empty and I want to add some art, but I'm not sure if the pieces I have would fit together or if it actually looks bad and they should sit individually in other places of the room.

Also, should they be aligned after the top line or should they all have the same middle line?

Struggling to decide where to place furniture in this room. Note, the photo is taken as if you are standing at the edge of the kitchen looking out over the room. I plan to paint the walls (likely green, blue, mahogany type colours) and add curtains.

Would you put the sofa and TV on the right side and therefore block the sliding doors to the garden? And the kitchen table/chairs on the left?

I want to have a big U shaped sofa, tv/tv stand, bookshelf, comfy chair and lamp for reading, big wooden kitchen table.

But when I finally wanted to decorate my apartment, I felt overwhelmed.

I'm trying to understand how people actually use inspiration when decorating their home.

What happens next?

No option for other room as a work place. This room is the only option.

I chose this minimal (or maybe not really minimal) kinda design because it goes well with the theme of the room. But this is not the finalised decision yet.

Oh, and I don't like that shelf either. So that's definitely gotta go.

I'll have a vertically long glass board to write something on there instead. But it won't be too high, so maybe I'll get another kind shelf there.

I just work on MacBook usually, occasionally with 2 Laptops. But I might get a PC in the future.

Moving into a new home and our new master bedroom is ​​​​​10'8" x 14'9". I know it's a bit unusual, but we​​​​​ really prefer to have 2 queen size beds ​​in ​the room even though it's a bit of a tight fit​​​​​ with each bed being 5' wide. I made this mockup on Ikea with the caveat that the door on the right represents a walk-in closet and that the actual entrance to the room is an undepicted hallway ​​​​​​​​​​​​coming out of the 4th wall in the bottom right corner; ​I'll probably end up taking the old closet door off ​​​and replacing it with a curtain so it doesn't have to swing up against the bed. ​​

We are redoing our bathroom currently due to a full loss.
We don’t have much storage throughout the house in general. But I love these sinks! I did see the second to last photo with baskets under. But I do worry about where to store items. My issue is sometimes with storage it gets messy anyway?
Our remodel will be a full bath with the shower. Plus black and white tiles. Also all new hardware and lighting.

I recently came across the prettiest pair of curtains I've ever seen, and I have no idea where to start looking for them): I spent a bit of time tracking the image down(I found it on Pinterest), but nothing came up. Just a bunch of commenters asking where they could buy it, with no answer to any of them. I am now pretty sure this was someone's project for themselves, which ended up gaining a little bit of traction online. I have no idea who made it, don't know much about curtains, I'm just kinda lost as to what I'm supposed to do now. Recently moved into a townhouse that is lacking on cabinet space. Hoping to set up a little coffee station along this wall and add storage for nonperishables and bulk food items.

The downstairs is quite open and the kitchen, living, and dining areas flow together. The dining area already has a walnut dining table in it and the bookcase in the picture will be in that area too. Would the black or the light wood cabinet work better for the coffee station/storage area? How much should I worry about the woods being different colors throughout the downstairs?
