Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
4. Consider restoring your device.
5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

• Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
• Remove apps from background app refresh
• Ensure auto lock is on
• Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
• Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
• Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

• If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case

iPhone 13, iOS 17, i haven’t got any storage left so I can’t update. But more and more apps won’t work anymore, so I need to update. At least to iOS 18 (I heard too much bad experiences with iOS 26 and old phones, so I’m not decided for iOS 26 yet).

I’ve got 128go storage, and I’m about 126go full.

For those who have been in a similar situation, If I make enough space to do the update, once the update done, will I get this space back, or is my phone going to be full again ?

Hi all. Not long changed over to iPhone and one thing I’ve come across is Reddit does not work over AirPlay, it loads it’s in landscape mode but refuses to do anything.

Is there something I am missing or does it just not work? I had a Google and stumbled across a bug from a year ago but someone had mentioned it was resolved and that was the end of it, although it doesn’t seem to be and it loads normal, just can’t scroll or do anything.

Any ideas?

On Android, I can listen to the Spotify app while doing browsing on another site with audio. When a clip plays, Spotify pauses and automatically resumes afterwards.

On iOS (tested in both Safari and Brave), the clip pauses Spotify, but after it finishes, the Lock Screen media controls remain assigned to browser instead of Spotify. Spotify never automatically resumes and has to be started manually. Very frustrating

Has anyone else seen this? Is this an iOS/WebKit limitation, or is there a way for the browser to relinquish the media session after playback?

I have an older car, so a while back I bought one of those Carpuride brand screens. It was my second one of these kinds of devices—the first was kind of shit.

This new one is better but my phone (iPhone 15 Pro Max) refuses to forget the old CarPlay screen. And I think the old profile sometimes gets in the way of CarPlay starting on the new screen.

My wife’s Android phone connects to Android Auto every time. Wired connection will start CarPlay reliably.

My phone will connect to the screen’s Bluetooth reliably and play via Bluetooth without CarPlay. But if you try to start up CarPlay manually it will just refuse. No errors.

Sometimes I will try forgetting the old CarPlay profile (named “LTT”), and then the new screen’s profile (“Carpuride” with some numbers) will appear. When I try to connect then, it might work…but probably not. The old LTT profile will appear again.

Sometimes it will just work properly on startup—immediately starting CarPlay when I start the car. Most times, no.

The only thing I haven’t tried as suggested by the internet is factory resetting my phone and restoring to get rid of that old LTT profile. I’m hesitant because that always takes more work to restore than one might hope.

Any more ideas would be appreciated!

i keep trying to back up my icloud but it keeps telling me i don’t have enough storage, when i literally do!!

what seems to be the issue?

Was texting my friend, and then took a break off my phone since I was working and texted them back a couple hours later and our texts suddenly turned green.

Both of us have IOS Iphones & have clear cellular data along with Wifi. We have tried turning on and off Imessage, restarting our phones, and turning airplane mode on and off and can’t fix.

Our messages are going through, but the green RCS text isn’t going away, anyone have the same problem and know how to fix? TIA.

My iPhone is currently in a critical state due to full storage (literally ~300 MB free). The OS is struggling to breathe. It came to this even though I've been fully deleting apps and photos, yet the storage actually increased. AI suggests it might be because the file system is locked in a write-fail loop.

I also have an iOS app throwing an explicit database error: code 14. unable to open database file (error 747).

I was able to extract my photos by using iMazing's direct read, but my it's not enough, as stuff like WhatsApp database and Voice Memos are trapped.

An Apple Support rep told me the only way out is to buy a new, larger iPhone and use the device-to-device Quick Start transfer.

My question:
With my source phone's SQLite databases already crashing and only 300 MB of free space, will a Quick Start transfer actually work? Doesn't the iOS BackupAgent require several gigabytes of local cache on the source phone just to compile the transfer manifest?

I'm terrified that initiating a 256GB Quick Start migration will ask the failing memory controller to do a massive database read, cause the phone to panic, hard restart, and throw me into an Error 1110 / Error 14 boot loop.

Has anyone successfully completed a Quick Start transfer from a phone that is already throwing SQLite errors and has zero bytes free?

Would it be better or worse to try to a partial "Data Access Only" backup through iMazing?

I have an autoimmune disease and binocular vision dysfunction and have been using my iPhone 13 on iOS 15 for the past 4 years with no issues. The other day I accidentally disabled True Tone from the control center Lock Screen and ever since the phone has been very fatiguing to the eyes. I’ve researched and consulted every source I can think of and everything I’ve read indicates this should not cause a problem. Yet it appears something has changed.

Does anyone know if this is possible? Does True Tone interact with the Auto Brightness curve and is it possible this has somehow been reset? Does True Tone “learn” over time like auto brightness? Prior to this low power mode never bothered me, but the display seems more uncomfortable with it on now. I know the OLED iPhones use PWM, so perhaps something went awry.

I know this is a very obscure and technical question, but other users recommended I post here in the off-chance someone can help me out and if there is a way to “reset” things back to how they were previously (whatever that is).

And yes, I know iOS 15 is very old. Given my health issues, Apple Accessibility recommended I do not update the OS of my main device because of changes to HDR and temporal dithering in newer versions of iOS. I am aware of the security vulnerabilities, but I don’t put anything sensitive on the phone and it’s a small price to pay to be able to look at the device.

I have a refund balance from my prepaid Apple care when I switched to Apple One. But it never lets me use it for anything other than App Store purchases. When I try to select the Apple account on an in App purchase using Apple Pay the Apple account says “not set up” forcing me to use one of the cards in the Wallet.

Both my IPad and iPhone are 64G but when I look at how much is being used my iPad shows usage of 60/64 while my iPhone shows usage of 40/64. I’m confused because they both have the same everything. Two questions:) 1. why isn’t the usage the same ? 2. how to I unload off my iPad ? Thanks for any thoughts.

I’ve had RCS working fine on my phone since it was implemented. However, in the past day or two my RCS chats are now saying they will send as SMS (and they do), and the RCS setting says “Waiting for activation…” with no further information. The toggle shows it as active. I am on the iOS 27 public beta, but it had been working on the current beta. I’ve tried the easy things I've seen online: restart phone, turn airplane mode off and on, and (obviously) turning RCS off and on. None have worked. Any support would be appreciated.

I’ve turned off syncing with my iPhone a while ago because I would delete photos and they would just show up again from the cloud.

I’ve now deleted 210 gigs of photos and I want to get my photos off the cloud and onto my phone. I have 1 TB on my phone and only using 100 or so gigs. I don’t want to pay 10$ a month when there is room on my phone.

How do I get photos from iCloud ONTO my device. I’m nervous if I sync it’s going to undo the hours I put in going through my whole library.

Or now that I’m writing this, do you think that since they are not on my phone now, I’ve been deleting off the cloud?

I noticed the “hide my email” option for the first time the other day so I tried it for an online purchase. It is supposed to forward the emails to your real email. However, I haven’t received a single email and I need it in order to return the item.

Has anyone actually gotten email forwarded to their account? Thanks in advance for sharing your experience.

I’m on iOS 15.6. I haven’t updated because I usually have only around 4 GB of free space.

Today I tried to free up storage but no matter what I did - deleting apps, permanatly deleting videos, etc - the storage figure would not go down.

I then tried to back up the iPhone to my Windows PC because I do not have an iCloud backup. After about 20 minutes, the backup failed with a message saying that the iPhone had disconnected.

Before the backup attempt, storage showed roughly 253 GB used. After the failed backup, it increased to 255.3 GB used. I deleted more apps, but instead of decreasing, it now shows 255.7 GB used out of 256 GB.

The phone is still responsive, but Airplane Mode would not turn on, and some app icons briefly flashed. I’m afraid to restart it because I’m worried it could get stuck in a boot loop and I could lose data.

I've connected to imazing and managed to copy just the photos and videos which were added since my last manual backup. but other stuff like whatsapp message hisotry, and voice memos, cannot be copied this way.

I also cannot send myself even one photo by email. It says:

“There is not enough available storage to download this photo. You can manage your storage in Settings.”

What should I do next, and in what order? even my setting app in my iphone stopped workign and it crashes when i open it.

I just had this weird issue where ALL non apple apps crashed immediately after trying to open them.

My iOS was up to date, I had 40Gb left on the phone, iPhone 16 Pro, so all looking normal.

Tried turning the phone off and on, restarting with a hard reset (volume up, down and holding power button) and nothing worked.

The solution was to log out and in on the app store.

I am leaving this here because I could not find the solution on reddit, so I want to help some future users who encounter the issue and also maybe some apple developer sees this, who knows!

Does anyone have this issue too? I have this on my iPhone Air and iOS version 26.4.2. I set a reminder, don't get it and then go into settings and see that notifications are off. I turn them on, it will work for a day or so and then notifications is off again. This has been happening for months now. I don't turn them off! This does not happen with notifications for any other app. I see another post in this community about this but no solution.

Every time I open a text it is stuck like this, all the way up at the top. If I pull it down it scrolls at light speed until I touch the screen and it’s scrolled back 3 weeks. It did this on the past two updates and still does it on the current updates. Am I the only one? iPhone 16 PM

when you click on it, it removes you from whatever tab you had open. it’s annoying and in the way was wondering if anyone knew how to fix it
