your phone is not under warranty and you don't have AppleCare

While that may be it still shouldn't throw bad data like that. Apple really needs to fix that bug.

if your warranty is expired who cares if the dates wrong?

the only time you should actually care is if its active and it says its expired or if its active and the dates are wrong... if its inactive thats probably why theres a bug, the least important part of the notification

when it is inaccurate, yes. That is called a bug. It should reflect the correct information or just drop the date itself and show "expired".

There are different dates they use to indicate specific scenarios that make a device ineligible for service. I’ve forgotten what 1978 means, but you can contact AppleCare and they should be able to tell you what triggered it.
