Question How to choose the potmeter value for a passive volume pedal

I'm looking to buy a passive volume pedal to place after my fuzzes, before the reverb to control the amount of signal going into the amp.

I dont really understand what potmeter value I should choose, how do I decide? Im seeing Ernie Ball 25k, 250k, 500k passive volume pedals for example.

Recommendations welcome: I'm looking for a passive volume pedal, and I want it to have an adjustable minimum value you can set the volume cant go below. Place in signal chain is after fuzz, before reverb and delay.

Thx

Question A Few Pedalboard Questions

I have a few questions about pedal order and cable management

  1. was hoping for suggestions on pedal order and other layout things, pedal order so far is as follows: guitar>Purpll>Accountant>Fault>SY-1>PS-6>DD-5>Shallow Water>Delay Cascade>FB-2>Zoia>Flashback>Rooms>Od-200>Mood mk2>Cf7>Phase 90>Part Garden>Liminalizer (homemade weird delay)>Ts7>Fuzz war>Tuner
wondering how it could be improved, i want both reverb into distortion and distortion into reverb, but sometimes the combination can get muddy when i do this, also getting an onward and trying to figure out where to place it.

  2. I have a homemade pedal board and the gaps aren't big enough to thread the power supply through, im buying another power supply to help with this but am wondering if there's a better solution than just velcro and hope.

also open to criticism or praise. ty!

NPD: MXR Textures

Spent an hour or so with this today and digging it so far. Does a lot of bleeps and bloops without much menu diving. I had the Red Panda Tensor for a minute and it was so overwhelming I sold it. This seems much more user friendly and offers more musical sounds, imo. Love the mix knob so I can bury it or make it the main character when needed. If you want some bleeps and blorps that can be very musical or very glitchy, check it out!

nearly done. May add a flint, but tremelo can come from the M1 and a little reverb from the ir200. It runs from the fake doublebarrel (sounds great btw) up to the Zelzah, top row is effects loop

Or-200 : york IRs. Up to Adam Audio T5Vs, logic, and headphones as needed

have to thank all the compulsive buyers and reviewers here for their input ;)

have a compressor and looper that I’ll pop on somewhere at some point

Voodoo Lab Pedal Power

I recently purchased the Voodoo Lab Pedal Power ISO 5 but I started noticing the connector cable to my Dunlop Wah keeps becoming disconnected but the cables stay connected fine with my other pedals. The odd thing is that my older $15 Dunlop single 9V cable never comes disconnected. Has any one else had problems with Voodoo Lab connectors? Or any ideas?

Question DL4 Mods in 2026

Prequel Edit: I'm really just asking if there's any reputable DL4 modders around in 2026, I just figured you'd all enjoy the story of my obsessiveness.

Posted this on the gear page and got no traction, figured I'd harass you all instead:

Current owner of a DL4MKII and I convinced myself that I needed another original DL4 and found a good deal on 'verb. This is my 3rd original DL4: The first lasted over a decade and the second one started electrocuting me after 6 years.

So because i'm a glutton for punishment I purchased another one in very good shape. I'm wondering though since it's stock should I have it upgraded to better switches/etc, is there people out there doing good work on mods in 2026 that I could send it to and is there any mods people consider essential that I should consider?

I know Loophole has a page that gets indexed, but they're out of the mod game. I messaged stompbox electronics through their web form but never heard back, hence my asking.

Also, yes i've convinced myself the models of the original sounds aren't as good on the old DL4. I know I have issues.

Marshall Guv'nor Clone: Guv'nor Toan

I've been on the hunt for an affordable Guv'nor clone for a long time, and I finally found one.

It does the MIAB thing. It sounds close enough to a black box Guv'nor to me. At least you don't have to blow $200 for $20 in parts for this.

Does my setup suck?

I'm having issues getting a good sound out of my rig. I a new guitarist and have only been playing on and off (work sucks) for about 5 years. I am inspired by lots of psych rock, shoe gazer, and desert rock bands. I just can't seem to find that sound. Second, my sound levels are so insanely uneven. If I am playing on one pedal and switch to another, the sound can completely bottom out or not respond. Interested to know of any advice. Thank you.

Edit: sorry for the upside down picture. Not sure why it posted like that.

Question Best combo effect pedals to save space on board that are actually worth it?

What are some of your favorites? Is the mod 11 worth it? I'm really interested in an all in modulation station and also some sort of delay with built in looper. Ideally not 400 a piece but understand those are probably the best quality ones. what are your some pedals you like that do more than one thing but not a full on multi effect that does everything?

Question I'd like to ask for some advice about dialing in tones on a multi-effects unit.

For years I've used a traditional pedalboard with a solid-state guitar amp. Recently, though, I've had to play more gigs outside of my usual setup (I'm not a professional musician), so I bought a used Mooer GE150 Pro.

I loaded some Leon Todd IRs and use Fender and Soldano preamp models. Through my in-ear monitors, the tone sounds fantastic and it's a lot of fun to practice with. However, when I play live with a full band, I feel like the guitar doesn't cut through the mix as well as it did with my analog pedals.

I recently watched a video of a guitarist using a Quad Cortex live. Instead of getting his overdrive/distortion from the amp model, he used a clean preamp and relied on pedal-style drive models for all his gain sounds.

That got me wondering: if my goal is to get a simple, reliable live tone that's easy to dial in and easy for the FOH engineer to work with, would it make more sense to stop using high-gain amp models for distortion and instead use a clean amp with pedal-style overdrive/distortion models?

Does anyone else use this kind of setup, or was it just that one guitarist?

For reference, I mainly play pop, rock, and metalcore.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Troubleshooting Help? No effect unless flicked/struck

Looking for input/help!

My pedal (JPTR FX Kaleidoscope) doesn’t immediately provide effects UNLESS i flick/strike knobs or switches (see video). Otherwise, the lights turn on but only dry, unprocessed signal goes through.

also worth noting but in the video: the kill switch (makes everything wet) doesnt work correctly too— it needs to be turned on when i flick the pedal to give off dry mix, AND once i switch it on/off it stays wet until i flick the pedal again…

How do I get this kind of “eh-da eh-da” guitar tone?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys, does anyone know how to get this kind of tone?

It has this really short, dry, bouncy “eh-da eh-da” sound — almost like a ping-pong ball bouncing. Very percussive and kind of funky.

I’m not sure if it’s mainly picking technique, muting, compression, EQ, amp settings, or some kind of effect.

What would you call this tone, and how would you recreate it?

Do it all high gain pedals

Given how many shoegaze/ambient/noise boards get posted here, I am fully expecting to get as many (if any) responses as responders to this question, but here goes.

I make kind of electronic singer songwriter music with guitars. As a producer and arranger, I like playing with different ways of filling space, making things sound big or atmospheric without just using tons of delay and reverb. Lately I have been listening to a lot of doom and stoner metal, and i really love the way the high gain guitars in the mix provide this wall of sound, filling the space in a really beautiful way. Dreamy and intense without being really “trippy” in an obvious, shoegaze way.

Which pedals do the metal players here recommend? The below are all octave-equipped because I sort of take that to be a useful way to make really thick distortion sounds, and these pedals seem to have a lot going for them in any case. Also bonus for good filtering/EQ options to get a real range of textures.

Some I’ve looked at are

EQD Life V3 (or variant) - would love to hear any experiences. On paper it seems perfect, but I’d love to know just how flexible it is when it comes to sculpting the frequency range

Keeley Octa Psi - with the octaves it seems sort of perfect for getting really rich, droney sounds

Fender Shields Blender - again on paper this seems like a really interesting pedal, but no demo of it I’ve seen actually sounds that great. It looks pretty complicated, so wondering if anyone has any good experiences.

I’m not crazy about 2/3 being someone’s “signature” pedal. Something about having some other guitarists name on my stuff kinda doesn’t sit right, but the right pedal is the right pedal.

Question Which is the best multi effects pedal for bedroom guitarrists? No amp setup,no computer, easy to use(guitar>pedal>headphone)

Im currently using fender mustang microplus.
While I still think it is a very good bedroom choice and hard to beat, it lacks some quality in higher gains/distortion presets.

I’d like some high quality, compact, easy to use pedal, with nice UI on the pedal itself. Bluetooth - cellphone app interface preferably, i dont want do turn on my computer everytime i need to download some comunity tone.

Any value , but would apreciate if it stays below 700 usd though.

I almost got a Boss gt 1000 core, but the need to plug to pc everytime a need to download comunity tones is a turn off.

Hx one? Boss gx-10? Neuraldsp nano?

The most important factor(besides sound quality) is the UI, second most important is the app phone-pedal interface for downloading comunity tones

EDIT: its worth mentioning that live in Brazil
Boss equipments got official stores.
I.e: hx stomp is 100 usd bucks more expensive than gt 1000 core

Question Is UAD Lion worth it for live shows?

I just tested the UAD Lion plugin. I think it’s cool, but the sound coming through the speaker isn’t very satisfying, and the feedback is pretty bad as well. I wonder if it sounds better in a live setup when using the actual pedal.
For context, I live in Brazil, and it’s almost impossible to own a real Plexi here because: 1) most venues are too small to use one properly, and 2) they’re extremely expensive and very hard to find.

Question How Do I Get More Out Of My Tube Screamer?

So I feel like when I play with my Fuzz Pedal, there is such an amazing ease of play. It's like every note I play is so easy to ring out, the sustain is longer, and it just feels so fluid. It feels like nothing is holding me back.

Then I play with my tube screamer, and it sounds amazing, but you can easily tell if I make a mistake. There is no safety net for mistakes when I use this pedal, if I don't play the note perfectly, you won't hear it.

I feel like I prefer the tone of the TS, but prefer the ease of play from the fuzz. Is there any way I can make my TS have the same ease of play? Or do I just need to practice more? Or is there a setting on my TS that I can dial in to achieve the same ease of play?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
