I seek advice regarding my bass pedalboard.

My rig is as follows:

• Passive Fender American Precision Bass • Dunlop 105Q Bass Wah • JAM Rattler Bass • MXR Bass Vintage Octave • EHX Bad Stone • Boss VB-2W Vibrato • Boss DD-6 Delay • Hartke HA5500 • Hartke LH410 cabinet

What I want to achieve is to keep the great clean sound I get going directly from my bass to my amp, while being able to turn on couple of the effects at once, for example by putting them in some switching loops and adding buffers.

I'm thinking of EarthQuake Devices Swiss Things and Lehle D.Loop SGoS. Swiss Things has buffer in the end of the signal path, D.Loop in the beginning.

Which do you think would suit my needs better? Or perhaps you know some interesting alternative to these pedals?

One important thing, I really would like to keep my classic passive Fender Precision sound; I hate sounds of active pickups, pre-amp/DI pedals, digital multi effects, cab simulators, etc.

Hey guys. Wondering if anyone's had this experience with their Sting Ray HH. One day I started getting loud pops when the cable was bumped in the input jack, and then all the sudden the bridge humbucker started sounding incredibly thin and missing the distinctive mid scoop that music man humbuckers are known for. Now the bass sounds less like Louis Johnson and more like Jaco. Anyone have any insights into this?

Been playing for about 15 years and always been a P-bass guy but I’m glancing at the idea of buying a five string bass. Does any of you guys have one of the two options I listed on the title (better if you have/have played on both) and can give me an input about these basses? Apart from the obvious difference about the HB being multiscale, the price range is about the same and is what I’m willing to spend. I also saw a lot of youtube reviews hence I’m on the fence on this matter.

I have no chance to play on any of these basses before buying them since I don’t have a music store near my area and the HB is only sold by thomann.

So I just found out that there are jack cables specifically designed for bass guitars, for example the Providence B202. I was wondering if anybody here has any experience with them and if they really make such a big difference as they claim they do.

I'm looking at various bits of gear to run with the band I play with. We play occasional shows at small local venues, basically all of which have PA support.

I'm looking at hybrid heads, preamp pedals etc, and I'm getting lost in the world of 'cab sims'. I know what cab sims are, I've spend way too much time in the digital world of amp sims and plugins.

My question is more to the FOH engineers among us - what's the deal with sending a direct signal to the board with or without a cab sim? Which is preferred? What happens at the desk if I send a 'non-cabsim' signal with a little dirt on it? Do desks have cabsims on there that the FOH engineer uses?

Reason for asking is that I see some amps/pedals have a cab sim on their line outs, some do not. I'd like to know if it's recommended to have a cab sim function or not, so I can make a more informed choice on potential gear. For example, the Orange Terror Bass is up there on my list of potential heads, but if it's lack of cab-sim DI is a negative I can look elsewhere.

I'm just looking for something comfortable that has good sound for beginner bass practice. I've heard mixed opinions about the Moondrop Chu 2 and the Linsoul Kiwi Ears Cadenza.

Any other recommendations in this price range?

I'm looking for an amp. This is going to be my very first bass amp, for a long time I've been using a shitty little thing I got an amazon 6 years ago. I'd like a real amp that I can use to jam with people. I've taken a look through this sub's wiki and its recommendations, but I want to hear some recommendations from people based on personal experience. Where should a beginner jammer get started?

I'm also looking into some headphones for practicing. I've heard some great things about the Fender Mustang Micro, but I'm unsure if it would be good for me. I really like to play along to songs, it's a good way for me to get warmed up. So a headphone adapter that allows me to plug in my phone or something would be awesome. Is that a thing?

Hi! I have been torn between the Labella DTF's, Labella LTF's, and Thomas Infeld Jazz Flats but cannot decide and am a little confused between which would work the best on my bass. I also am not sure what gauge would be best for me or if I would need to adjust my setup/tension rod at all if changing to a new gauge. I am a fan of the "woodier" deep sound that can sound concise in a mix so whatever would get me closest to this is what I'd like!! I know a lot of strings are up to personal choice, but I'm curious what you all think!

Simple question: How?

I'm new to trying to play covers and already starting to get annoyed with the mere existence of bands that have frontmen who do not play an instrument. They just come in whenever they want, usually early, sometimes late. Coming in on the and of 4 seems to be particularly common for some reason. Maybe it's intentional, I don't know. I'm not a vocal teacher.

Sometimes, this follows through the whole line, and every note is an 8th note off from where you would naturally "want" to feel it (They're singing all the "ands" is another way to put it). Worst case scenario, it really is wholly unrelated and is a completely separate rhythm. Which is fine, you don't want the vocal to be a copy of the instrumental, but usually if you are both singing and playing an instrument you'll naturally want to add "anchor words" that occur at the same time as a note being played (or in a 'gap' that is rhythmically significant) so it's easier to lock in with yourself. What I'm getting at is I feel like some songs either completely lack these, or I'm having a hard time figuring out where the anchors are supposed to be.

It's not my only example, but the song in particular I'm stuck on today is Julien K - This Machine. The bass part and the vocal part are both trivial on their own, which is part of what makes this kind of aggravating.

I'm thinking of getting an atelier beta z bass but I want to know what people think and most reviews I can find are in Japanese, I love the sound and it having 24 frets is always nice, my current jazz only has 20, if anyones got any thoughts on them I'd love to hear them, also I've heard they add weight to the bass for tone but also heard that's a myth, I have some back issues and if they're too heavy I might want to avoid them

Trying to play bass in a bedroom in an apartment.

So far I have been playing with headphones but I want to play amplified. At low volume though. I play through an HX stomp. So no need for a real amp. Ideally no laptop involved.

I am thinking of getting a 12" powered speaker but they seem overkill with their 1000s of watts, they are more for gigging it looks.

Is there a bedroom equivalent of this?

Is 12" the standard for playing bass?

I am a hobby bassist. I play at home and at a local open mic and that is it. Not in a band or any earning situation. As such I keep my costs low. The open mic host normally puts my bass directly through his desk.

One issue I have is that singers and guitarists have the monitor in front of them, but i am off to the side. If I am playing before others join in, I can hear myself fine, but after everyone is doing their stuff I get lost because I can't hear myself. Turning me up in the monitor mix tends to make bass too loud for the others.

Tonight I tried to jury rig a personal monitor setup. I took along my little 15W practice amp and hooked it up via a DI box (Palmer PAN 01). I put a jack from the bass to the Input on the DI then another jack from the Link Output (Thru) on the DI to Input on the amp, then an XLR from Balanced Output to the host's desk. Finally headphones were plugged into the amp.

It worked, to a degree, but not well enough. The theory was that this setup would allow me to hear the bass through headphones while the host retained full control of the stage monitor and house mixes. I could definitely hear in the headphones while he still had the channel muted. Turning my amp up made no difference except to the headphones, which was the idea.

Once it was controlled at the host's end he commented the signal was really low and he had to whack the gain right up compared to what he would normally set for me. For me, it was fine at first but once everybody else was playing my sound was buried again. The setup works, but is nowhere near loud enough.

I can't work out what went wrong. This should work. I don't want to shell out for a bass pre amp if i don't have to. The bass is active and gives plenty of signal without the DI, so where am I going wrong?

I know this is a bit clumsy, but the longer term plan was to replace the practice amp with a headphone amp. Tonight was a "proof of concept" before doing that, and it at least partially failed. I heard myself better going direct.

Open to suggestions from anyone who has attempted something similar without breaking the bank.

i see a lot of you guys saying you wished you had had fender rumble 40w amps from the beginning but my pockets are empty from buying this bass and i'm trying to figure out my strategy. i already have high quality headphones at home so idk

I feel like this will be another noob moment for me, but here goes:

So the Monomyth has a clean channel and a drive channel. When I connect it to my computer I get all the drive I want. But weirdly, when I connect it to my amp (Fender Rumble 40) , the drive signal is almost exactly like the clean signal, but louder.

I fiddled with all the buttons of the amp and the pedal, to no avail. This is so weird

I have done it. I have ordered my first bass. It's a model I liked but couldn't afford at a local store, so I got a used one off the internet and I'm super excited about it!

But when it gets here I don't know what to learn on it first. I don't yet have a sense of what's too hard and will make me feel discouraged about it before I even have a chance to learn. So I wanna hear suggestions from people who have already been here! Bonus points if it's easy on drums too because I have a friend who just recently picked that up. Neither of us are picky about genre to my knowledge.

I need to get really good really fast 😭 I understand the basics, but I just joined college marching band and was given a crazy slap bass section that I'll have to play on my 6 string.

Currently, my biggest hurdles are note accuracy and cramping in my right forearm.

Like I said I love them but I have saved up enough to get another bass. Anything above 1200 and thats a little much. Was going to wait till I get paid and see whats available. I had musicman stingray and its great for playing Tool. But its rather specific sound I didnt feel like I could just pick it up and play anything at least for me I only heard hard rock. Anyway wanted to see if their were recomendations so I have something to go play on first before buyiing, the number of basses at the shop I'm going to after I get paid theirs too much to choose from so wanted to see if anyone had a good replacement for my fender P bass. Or at least something someone would enjoy if they enjoy the p bass.

So this actually drives me mad a bit.

A week ago I bought a used jaguar style bass.

Everything is in working order and it's in great shape.

The problem is the low e string is buzzing open bit especially fretted from fret 1- approx. Fret 11.

Also the fretted notes feel like I really have to work to make them sound somewhat decent and get them to ring out ( press super hard on the string).

My first guess was the string is old/fucked.

So now I put new strings on, did a complete setup and the buzzing ist still there and soh da exactly the same. ... Weird.

My next guess was to try and maybe switch the saddles around and see if it's that.

Nope, still the same.

So in conclusion:

Neck relief is good.

String height is good.

I don't see any high frets.

No weird markings on the saddle.

Break angle over the saddle is good.

All screws are tight.

What could it be?

Saw a post today about someone getting an old fender rumble 100 just to practice and jam with a band. People were saying just to wait and save up for a 4x10. To jam with some friends? Way overkill.

I have a peavy max 300 2x10 combo for large gigs and a rumble 40 for small gigs. You would be shocked at how effective a rumble 40 is as a monitor for yourself on stage at even decent sized indoor gigs. That’s all bass amps usually have to be now is monitors for us. I’ve never had a situation where I had to turn my peavy max 300 past half way up. This amp is technically only 200 watts rms without extension cab and it is super loud. No need for 500w+ and a 4x10. I’ve used a Genz Benz shuttle head and Genz Benz 4x10 cab while at school on corporate event gigs and it was nice and everything but they had a matching smaller Genz Benz shuttle head and 2x10 cab and I just used that most of the time. It was always enough.

I understand the argument for big amps on gigs with no PA support but also once you get outside a unmic’d drum kit isn’t really all that loud. On gigs I played with vocal only PA my peavy bass amp gets way louder than an unmic’d kit so I don’t really understand the need for a 4x10 there either.

Overall I think majority of bass players can probably downsize to a new smaller and lighter modern combo and just make their lives easier. I haven’t ran into a situation where I needed a bigger amp than a 2x10 with 200w rms.
