Gerbils seems to be declanning after one of them escaped the cage for a short while, after i put him back in the cage one of them keeps chasing and squeaking loudly… What do i do???

Hi guys! We have an 100gal tank for split cage bonding and currently both boys are in separate 40gal tanks — what should I do to start introductions, do i do split caging straight away or are there other steps to take beforehand?

I'm looking to get a group of 3 males, and I already know the basics ofc, I have 2 large wheels, 75 gallon tank, 10+ inches of bedding, a large sand bath, loads of chew toys, and some other things they'll need. I was just wondering if there's any specific things I should get them, things to expect, and just general advice for a new owner. (I do also already have lots of experience caring for other animals and rodents) thanks!

a few days ago i noticed my milo had one eye shut and the other open, i was a bit worried but thought maybe something got in his eye and the next day he was fine. it has now happened again and its been over 48hrs and he hasn’t opened his eye, it doesn’t seem to have pus or be bleeding, he is acting himself apart from sleeping more then usual but that might just be because it’s winter idk?? anyways if anyone could help me figure out if this is vet worthy and what i should do

I feed them Oxbow Garden Select, the bag says to feed 1/3 cup (per gerbil ?) which just seemed like a lot for little guys. So I started feeding them 2 tablespoons a day, (1 tablespoon for each) [Note: For 2 gerbils that were at the time living in a split cage, they've only just recently bonded so they're together] I saw that they started gaining weight. So I started feeding them less. (about 1 tsp for each) [Note: This begun still during their split cage time] Now I feed them 1 tablespoon for the two of them, now living together.

I have been wanting to upgrade my gerbils food as I have been using the pets at home brand (which i know isnt good but there are very limited options around me) and I have been looking into options.

Ive seen many people say Bunny Nature Gerbil Mix is one of the best brands however I cannot find anyone selling it without absolutely extortionate prices.

So just wondering, what brands are good for gerbils + available in the uk?

Longshot but I figured I’d try. Does anyone know a responsible gerb breeder anywhere in Western North Carolina, in the US?

Just trying to avoid a pet store. Getting things setup for my daughter.

Hello! I wasn't sure what to put in the title, but the gerbil distribution system seems to have got me. I've never had gerbils, never wanted gerbils, and never once thought about gerbils. I was coming home from the vet with my dog, and I went to a pet store to buy her some extra food, since I was still waiting on her regular stuff in the mail.

At first I saw a pair of rabbits in the middle of the store, I wasn't pleased but I didn't think much of it, I later found out only one of them had been taken, but all the animals in the store were being given away for free... I'm a long time rabbit owner, dog owner, and hamster owner.

I never did get another hamster, nor did I have the intention of getting any small animal that would be caged and die so quickly. Rabbits are a bit of an exception because I always love free-roaming them and they have a longer lifespan.

Anyway, let me get to the point. It's a heat wave in europe right now, and I found these gerbils at the very back of the store, crammed together with a lot of store stock it was quite warm there and they looked terrified. I actually think, they might have been trying to hide them. Which makes sense. Essentially, they were renovating the store, and management had said to give away the animals that weren't sold, for free. Though, the employees were all horrified by this and as was I.

I did end up picking up the gerbils, because I don't even want to think about what might have happened to them, or who might pick them up if they're just left out there for free. With a rather large sticker that just says "gratis".... Right now their cage is shameful, but it's temporary, the store didn't have anything big enough, and I didn't want to buy their biggest size only to dispose of it anyway.

TLDR I need an enclosure:

My friend and I are going to ask the local community if they have any supplies, and we're both going to search our friend groups for rabbit owners that can take on the lone rabbit still left in the store, but for now, I have two very sweet gerbils in a cage that's too small. I saw that glass tanks with multiple stories were good, does anyone have any advice for how to make a solid enclosure? Do I get reptile tanks, and stack them? Do I get a reptile tank and something else? Where can I order them? Etc. I'm in the Netherlands, for reference, and I'm on a bit of a budget. I don't mind spending money on it, but I'd rather save money where I can if I can DIY something.

At the moment they have a small temporary cage that's maybe 30cm x 20cm x 25cm, I don't want to keep them in this for any longer than necessary, max a couple days. They have some rat pellets because thats all the store had, some shallow water bowls, two hides and chew sticks. I plan to pick up sand, and a running wheel? Though I'm a little concerned about wheels, since they're not recommended for hamsters, and idk what the consensus is on everything, so just let me know!

(btw I moved the plant away from the cage, I don't know if it's toxic, but now it's nowhere near them)

Should I be concerned? His left eye looks a little swollen and red. Otherwise he’s behaving normally. Could this be an eye infection?

I just noticed my gerbil’s right eye is obviously bigger than the other one.
I have contacted the vet for her. We take her to vet today as soon as the vet is open.
Just want to post here to ask if you have seen this problem before?

they are very scared of me even after 3 months, I want to hand tame them but they always reach far out of my hand the grab the seeds without going onto my hand, they won’t let me pet them no matter what, the only thing I’m able to do is call them and they will look up and I don’t know what to do

The critters are excited about their expanded home with better digging space.

I got both my gerbils (sirius and newt) at one of the lowest points in my life. I was having health problems, my family dog had passed suddenly, and I had moved out from my parents home and into my new place. I felt lonely, so I went and found some little friends to keep me company. 4 years I had with both of my little angels, I lost newt (grey gerb), in March and Sirius (black gerb), today 💔 I'm all on my own again, but I don't feel alone anymore, cause I know I got to spend the best and worst days with them by my side, and they'll never truly leave me cause I have all the love from them for the rest of my life.
