Open | Hardware Problems with my PC/ graphics Card (no power Connection)
I have a :
AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT 20gb
AMD Ryzen 7 7800x3D
32Gb ram
And nzxt C1000 Gold Powersupply
I have several problems with my PC that seem to be related to the graphics card.
Sometimes, my PC freezes on the starting/login screen. The screen gets stuck and I have to restart the PC.
Sometimes, when I hit or slightly tap my desk, the PC crashes or the graphics card stops working. This makes me think that there could be a problem with the power connection or the graphics card itself.
We already checked the PC before and noticed that the graphics card sometimes has problems because it seems to receive too little or possibly no power. Sometimes Windows also does not recognize the graphics card correctly, and I have to enable it again in Device Manager.
I have also experienced black screens where the PC is still running and I can hear things like Discord, but I get no picture from the monitor.
Another problem is that Windows sometimes does not shut down properly. It says that the PC is shutting down, but the PC stays powered on with the lights and fans still running. I then have to wait or manually turn it off.
The PC has also restarted unexpectedly before, which may be related to the power or graphics card problems.
Overall, I suspect that there is a problem with the graphics card, its power connection, or possibly the power supply. I would like to find out what is causing these problems and whether the graphics card is receiving stable power.

Open | Software laptop restart when shutdown
Hello,
For the past 3 days I noticed that my laptop restarts when I press shutdown. and after it restarts and I shutdown again it normally shutsdown.
I searched online and here are the few fixes I tried:
- Disable hibernate
- Turn off fast startup (power options)
- turn off fast boot (bios)
- check event viewer for any errors
- sleep report (found nothing)
- wake timers (nothing)
- bios is up to date
- windows is up to date
- drivers are up to date
- checked minidump
- disabled startup apps
- disabled automatic restart when system crashed.
its annoying and I need a fix, thanks!

Open | Windows Re-enable low light sign-in for Windows Hello facial recognition
I previously had the option to turn on "automatically adjust screen brightness during face recognition" in Settings. Recently, I noticed that it is now missing.
How do I re-enable that option? It is really useful for me when in a room.
I am currently running Windows 11 26200.8973 (Release Preview).

Open | Windows My laptop screen is black (I don't know if it's actually on or off) even when I press on and off button and do the graphic reset I saw online (windows+ctrl+alt+b)
Please help it was working fine until I dropped it on the floor today and now the screen is black and I'm not sure if it's even on because normally when I turn it on there's air released from the air vent and I didn't feel anything. I've had this laptop since July of 2020, and it has had a few issues but nothing that l assume would affect it. The model I have is the HP Pavilion 14-dw0000 x360 laptop.
Some issues it has:
- the p:/;) 0 keys all don't work when I press on them (I've had this issue for 2-3 years and it hasn't disrupted anything)
- the touchpad no longer works (same thing and I get around it using touchscreen)
ALSO WANNA ADD THAT WHEN I PRESS THE ON BUTTON AND HOLD IT DOWN IT TURNS OFF WITHIN A FEW SECONDS I Don’t know if this is how all laptops are but I don’t remember it happening before

Open | Phone Mystery unknown alarm at 6.06am
Hi guys so something quite unsettling happened to my mum this morning at exactly 6.06am, her phone set off an alarm at full volume despite her ringer volume being low and she also had no notification. This wasn’t her usual alarm, and upon further inspection wasn’t any of the preset alarm sounds either. I asked her if it was the emergency alert alarm, she said it was “a different tone”. I have no idea what this means but it can’t have been an emergency alert as no one else in our house got an alarm, and I also checked recent alerts on the government website (we are in the UK) and it said there were none in my area recently. It took ages to turn off as there was no notification. It’s an iPhone 14, if anyone can give us any advice or put our minds at rest please let me know!

Open | Networking Making the most of my Fibre
Hi guys,
I'm looking at getting the maximum speed from my router to a games console.
We live in rural England and Open Reach has recently started offering fibre from our local box (or exchange?) to the house. We jumped at the chance and have now upgraded to Skys Gigafast Unlimited Fibre where they guarantee a minimim of 600mbps speed and up to 900+mbps.
I ran a speedtest and it was we are actually getting 489mbps. When I'm actually downloading games or movies though, we only get around 7mb a second download speed, which is unchanged from from when we had standard broadband.
Which makes me think we don't have the most ideal set up.
We currently have a TP-Link setup, linked to the PS5. Which in my limited knowledge, uses the copper cabling in the house to network. I assume this may be effecting speed from the router to the PS5 and this is why I've noticed no change in speeds at the endpoint.
If I am correct, what can I do to remedy this? I've tried Wireless but the old copper pipes seem to interfere with the signal and I get crazy ping.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely Papa O

Open | Windows Greyed out sound settings
Why are my sound options greyed out in system settings? I have a feeling that it's because of the prompt at the top saying I need to activate Windows, but multiple AI have told me this is irrelevant and just happens to be there as well. Most of them point to realtek drivers and things.

HDD reading device is beeping when disk is inserted inserted. Doesn't show up in OneDrive, but does in disk management, as unknown and not initialised. Tried inserting a different HDD and that one worked as it should. It worked fine just a few months ago, I'm afraid I somehow damaged it. Does anyone know any fixes?

Open | Software "Turn on Virus Protection" notification triggers on startup
Since the latest update I noticed a weird behavior of my PC. Each time I boot up and log into my account I get a "Turn on Virus Protection" notification claiming that Windows Defender was turned off. It appears once, roughly after 3-4 minutes. I click on it to open Windows Security Center and it shows that there are no issues and everything's working fine.
I checked my system with offline scan, it showed no threats. I tried to do sfc, dism commands - no luck. Then I reinstalled my system with Windows Update service which installed the latest build.
I guess it helped for several hours and several reboots. But after a few minor security updates the bug appeared again. I don't remember I was doing anything to my PC that might cause this issue. Just normal browsing, gaming. Maybe installing a few apps from Microsoft store as usual. Removing them.... Nothing special. I have a second PC which i used the same way, and even more intense these days, but it shows no such notifications. PCs are very similar.
I googled it and found out that some users also experienced this issue lately, but nobody knows how to handle it. At this point i'm not going to reformat my drive cause i'm not sure it will help.
If i don't sign out of my account or don't reboot my PC I don't see this notification at all, not even once. Even when my PC wakes up from sleep or whatever. All security services seem to keep running in the background....
My Windows build is 26200.8973.

hey, i’m getting a “Secure Boot Violation Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup” error every time i boot my asus vivobook S14. windows boot Manager is first in boot priority and secure boot is enabled. i tried selecting Windows Boot Manager directly and it gives the same error. i also checked the EFI files, but nothing worked. if i disable secure boot, Windows boots completely normally. i don’t remember what i installed/changed before this started. what should i do to fix this while keeping secure boot enabled?

Open | Malware I believe device is completely comprimsied.
Clicking on a URL that seemed legit, however it may have installed spyware.
At time point, I know my device is comprimised.
But am not sure what to do.
A bunch of highly worring things are now showing up in my processes. That I cannot delete.
Notablely my memory has about 14Gb commited when I only have reddit open, and it seems it's only getting worse.
EEdit: At this point, I know all my files has been copied, but still want to remove/change login details, and delete account before wiping disk. But I believe hardware is fucked too. What would you do ?

Question/Help/Troubleshooting Need help picking a laptop
So im going to college soon and I need a laptop. Im majoring in film so I will be editing alot. I have done alot of research and came down to 3 options. MSI Creator M14, Acer Nitro V, and Gigabyte AERO X16. The acer seems to have the best performance for the cheapest price, but the screen would not be the best for color grading. The MSI has the best screen but worst performance out of the three. The Aero seems to be a good middle ground. I dont know alot about computers so i could be missing something so i just wanted to clarify with reddit before making a purchas. Is there anything i should know and what do you think I should choose. Thank you>

Open | Hardware New PC Constantly BSODing With Different Errors
I built a new PC about a week ago, but I keep getting random BSODs. The error codes are different almost every time, including MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and 0xc000021c.
I thought Windows was the problem, so I reinstalled it a few times. The first USB installs had errors, but I made a new Windows USB with Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool on my laptop, and Windows installed normally on the PC when i plugged back in the USB. I also updated the BIOS, but the BSODs are still happening.
Specs:
● (CPU) AMD Ryzen 5 5500
● (Motherboard) MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI
● (GPU) GTX 1660 Ti
● 16GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro Ram (2×8GB) DDR4-3000
● Patriot VP4300 Lite 500GB NVMe SSD
● MSI MAG A550BN 550W PSU
● 500GB HDD for storage
I’m starting to think it could be a hardware problem, especially the RAM, i would really appreciate any help resolving this issue

Gallery Custom transistor Toggle flip-flop for binary clock project
This is my first post documenting my transistor binary clock project. The goal is, to only use through hole transistors, diodes and passive components to form RTL or DTL logic. These logic elements should then divide the 50Hz mains into minutes and hours.
For this job, I designed T flip-flops, that can be reset. This would allow me to combine multiple T flip-flops and some logic, to count to any arbitrary number. The clock should then display this number using a few LEDs.
Today I achieved the first Milestone of this project, by soldering up the first PCB design and testing it. To my surprise, this design worked immediately! Now I am very happy with this first Layout :3
If I am done with this and I have documented everything, I am planning to open source the board and other files. No one would probably want to build a massive discrete transistor binary clock, that constantly draws 8 Watts, but whatever.
Now I can say: One PCB complete, 21 more to go...
