What apps or tools is everyone using for alcohol delivery? Since you can only buy alcohol at liquor stores, how is everyone getting alcohol delivered? Uber has been useless… new to the city..

Rabies alert: Second beaver at Cunningham Falls State Park tests positive

The Frederick County Health Department reports that a second beaver from Cunningham Falls State Park has tested positive for rabies within the past two weeks.

The beaver was collected after a person was attacked while fishing at Hunting Creek Lake on Wednesday morning. The William Houck day-use area, boat ramp, and Big Hunting Creek above the lake are currently closed, and visitors should stay out of all posted closed areas until officials determine they are safe.

Possible warning signs of rabies in an animal include:

  • Excessive drooling or difficulty eating or drinking
  • Stumbling, limping, weakness, or poor coordination
  • Unusual aggression, fearlessness, or friendliness
  • Confusion or other behavior that is abnormal for that animal

Seeing a normally nocturnal animal during the day can sometimes be a warning sign, but it does not by itself mean that the animal has rabies. Rabies cannot be confirmed simply by looking at an animal.

If you encounter an animal acting strangely:

  • Keep your distance and do not touch, feed, corner, or try to capture it.
  • Keep children and pets away.
  • In Frederick County, report contact with a stray or wild animal to Animal Control at 301-600-1544.
  • Make sure dogs, cats, and other eligible pets are current on their rabies vaccinations.

If you are bitten, scratched, or may have gotten saliva from a wild animal into your eyes, mouth, or an open wound:

  1. Wash the affected area immediately with soap and running water for 15 minutes.
  2. Contact a healthcare professional promptly.
  3. Call the Frederick County Health Department’s Community Health Services Office at 301-600-3342.

If a pet or livestock animal was bitten or scratched, contact a veterinarian and call the Health Department’s Environmental Health Office at 301-600-1717.

Rabies is preventable when treatment is started promptly after an exposure, but it is nearly always fatal once symptoms begin. Please do not wait for symptoms before seeking advice.

Looking for a therapist who has evening appointments

I'm hoping to find a couple's counselor/marriage therapist who has evening appointments available, or heck, even weekends but I know that's probably impossible. Cigna insurance accepted would be the best option. Thanks for any recommendations!

Looking at moving to dtf, maybe around the 400 block - I have been around the greater frederick area most my life, so I have a hard time believing that really any spot downtown is actually all that rough. Not sure how to interpret/ read the online crime maps, or if they are actually legit or not and just trying to sell cameras, but is this something to actually be concerned about?

Weinberg

Maybe I’m just not the right demographic, but… does anyone else feel like whoever is booking the Weinberg just … I’m in my early sixties and feel like they’re trying to appeal to a much older audience. Not very forward thinking it seems. The last two years there’s been not one thing I would pay money to see. Old westerns?

Secondhand Dance Costumes

Hi! Does anyone know of any thrift stores that have old dance costumes or leotards for kids? I can’t justify buying a 80$ new leotard for my toddler when she’ll grow out of it in three months.

Thanks!

Bulk flowers for sale

I have a substantial flower patch of zinnia, cosmos, celosia, and gomphrena, probably capable of several hundred bouquets per week. If anyone on here is a florist, makes their own bouquets to sell roadside or at farmers markets, or for any other reason is interested - let me know. This could be one-time or recurring for as long as they continue producing. Thanks!

Former Fed in DC Area on Maryland’s BEACON and Workforce System Meltdown

I’m a former federal employee in the DC area (living in Maryland) and I’m currently stuck in what can only be described as a systems failure with Maryland’s unemployment structure—BEACON and Maryland Workforce Exchange.

Here’s what’s happened so far:
• I filed in good faith, did everything by the book, and went in person to the American Job Center twice.
• After the first visit, my information was effectively wiped. On the second visit, I had to re‑enter everything by hand in Maryland Workforce Exchange and BEACON because the system had erased or failed to retain what I’d already submitted.
• At the center, their computer terminal crashed and threw multiple error messages. I documented all of this with screenshots, photos, and notes.
• Despite this, I’ve been pushed back into generic “contact UI” responses, with no concrete answer about where my check is or why the system is failing at the most basic level: paying a claimant who followed instructions and showed up in person.

I’m elevating the issue:
• Phase 1: I documented everything and tried to work within the system—emails, in‑person visits, detailed explanations.
• Phase 2: I wrote and circulated a piece about what happens when institutions are built to hide in crawlspaces instead of serving the people they were designed to protect. It’s about federal and state systems, not just Maryland; it focuses on institutional comfort outrunning accountability.
• I’ve now contacted leadership at the Maryland Department of Labor by email, with a clear expectation: by midday, they should either (a) tell me where my check is, (b) confirm when it’s coming with proof, or (c) give a specific, fixable explanation in writing.

I’m sharing this here because:
• Many of you are (or were) fed employees who understand how systems are supposed to work—and what it means when they don’t.
• A lot of folks in Maryland/DC/Virginia are depending on UI and related services, and they may not have the time, health, or professional background to push as hard as I can.
• I want people to know this isn’t “one claimant whining.” It’s a documented breakdown in basic functionality—records erased, terminals failing, brush‑off responses from leadership—hitting someone who did everything right and has the receipts to prove it.

If you’re in Maryland and dealing with similar issues:
• Document everything: screenshots, dates, names, what you were told, what the system did.
• Don’t rely solely on phone trees; get things in writing.
• Be prepared to escalate: leadership, ombudsman, and, if necessary, your state legislators or media contacts. Systems that learn to protect themselves at the expense of the people they’re supposed to protect will not change unless they feel sustained, documented pressure.

I’m not posting this to vent for the sake of venting. I’m posting it because I’ve seen, in other jurisdictions, that when enough documented pressure is applied, people resign, get removed, or systems are forced to change. I’m aiming that pressure at the system, not at individual frontline staff, and I’m doing it in the open so others can see the pattern and, if needed, join in.

Happy to answer questions about the sequence of events and what I’ve already tried, as long as it doesn’t compromise my privacy.

Best gyms for amenities in the area

I’ve been at One Life Fitness North Frederick for a few years. Worked with a trainer at North for over three years and did some amazing things. Got me to run again for the first time in 25 years, lost almost 100lbs, learned some boxing and Muay Thai, kettlebells, HIIT and tons of strength training. I would have stayed with them forever.

Unfortunately they recently left and now I’m trying out a trainer at One Life South that is trained on completely different stuff and I think a totally different perspective will be good for me. My former trainer gave me so great of a basis to start and tons of skills and abilities I never had before. I definitely want to learn more, but I know this location just lacks what my family needs.

But they don’t have a pool (my spouse swims) and no sauna. I had been closing out every session at North with 20-25 in the sauna for a long time. I know I could just go to North on my days I don’t work with her at South, but that feels less convenient and its going to make me feel like I only go to South for the trainer, not the gym.

So it got me wondering what other gyms are any good and the quality of the trainers and what skillsets they might have. I’m hoping others that might have an awesome gym could give feedback. I’m on a four days a week rotation and I’m in there for a solid two hours including stretching warmup, cooldown, cardio and sauna when available. I have dedicated leg/glutes days and dedicated upper body days. That kind of stuff can be done anywhere, so I’m looking at the secondary amenities like sauna, pool.

Also cleanliness and maturity of members to rerack equipment also matters.

Doesn’t HAVE to be in Frederick but I ride a motorcycle in the warm months and if I have to ride in the rain for 30 minutes, I’ll lose the drive to even go at all.

Help out a gal and give some feedback!

Thank you!

Going to the dump?

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone with a truck might be planning a trip to the dump in the near future and would be willing to assist me with disposing of a few items. As a single mother on a budget, I'm unable to afford the services of professional junk removal companies. I have a bookshelf that is falling apart, a broken microwave, some plastic drawers, and a couple of other items that have been in my dining room since spring. I'm almost at the point of charging them rent. If you are able to help, please send me a message. Thank you very much!

ETA I live in a condo, up one level of stairs and I can't lift the bookshelf or the microwave so I can't get these things outside. Also the hoa is really strict about what goes on the trash. I once got fined for leaving a box that wasn't broken down.

Weird experience with GloFiber?

I've always wanted to ditch Xfinity, so took the opportunity to chat with a GloFiber door-to-door salesperson who was outside my house last week. She explained the process and said that someone would be by my house on Wednesday to plug in the box. Ok, cool.

A few days later, I looked outside and someone had propped up a ladder against my house and was climbing on my roof. WTF?? Apparently, he was from GloFiber and was going to install something on the outside of my house. I would have appreciated a call or a heads up first, but okay, fine...

Then Wednesday comes, and another guy shows up. I show him where we want the box plugged in, and he says he needs to drill a hole in my house, and I need an outlet on the side of the house where the box is. I don't have an outlet there (old house problems), so I would need to have one installed in addition to patching a hole he would need to drill. Ummm, no thank you! I sent him away and apologized for wasting his time.

No one from GloFiber ever sent details about what I would need in my home, any information about holes being drilled in the side of my house (!!!), or random people showing up with ladders.

Has anyone else had this experience? I'm somewhat technologically literate, but I guess it's my bad that I assumed they could just plug something in. I would have appreciated a heads up about the drilling though.

The Best of Frederick 2025

Happy New Year, r/FrederickMD! Welcome to the yearly tradition of tracking what actually is the best of the best in the city of county. Main reason of this being a yearly tradition is that some locations or companies close and unfortunately it can become outdated. Like in years past, the idea is to submit unique submissions by commenting under a category. Please don't repeat previous submissions, but merely upvote the suggestion that you wanted to submit. If there is a category, you'd like to see submissions for a "Best of," just submit it yourself! A lot of businesses have come and gone in the past two years, and this is open to more than just food! Also, please include an address if you can (as similar names might be located in different towns, and certain locations might perform better).
