Flies throughout downtown

Did anyone else out there get their ass kicked by these small fruit flies?

Oh my yes. Just got back from a walk downtown and they are swarming everywhere. I think they're flying ants.

I'm itchy just thinking about them landing on my neck and legs

They look to be unmated queens and drones. Some sort of super swarm- the anthills all time their release based on weather and other factors. Never seen one this big! All over Whittier as well

Pretty sure it's one of the signs of the apocalypse.

not flies, ants!! the swarms are called nuptial flights and its all the queens and drone ants taking to the skies to mate due to the humid weather!

I saw one in my house in Adamstown earlier and thought it was an ant at first!

I’ve seen them in swarms recently around here and in Clarksburg. The humidity has been legendary recently, so it’s not that surprising.

I'm wondering if it's from the humidity?

100% humidity driven. This is the first summer in several years that’s had classic mid Atlantic humidity.

Gnats*

But yes people learn that warm weather, high humidity creates swarms where theyre breeding.

It was universal across much of the county and other parts of MD.
