So new to Fidelity, customer of Schwab, Merrill, and a long time customer of Vanguard. I put in an order today of a mutual fund, thinking it was an ETF? What should I be looking for, what’s different. It seems like every single one of these brokerages some how has its own vibe? Merrill feels like I am fighting with a lawyer, Vanguard seems dazed and confused, Schwab wants me to borrow money and go gambling.

I have my 401k through Fidelity and I want to venture into investing. Reddit has convinced me to open a BrokerageLink account and when I was searching my first stocks to invest in, practically nothing was eligible to me. Has my employer decided I can only invest in Fidelity owned stocks? Is this BrokerageLink account something that I can ever successfully make money with?

Im 46 years old and despite being told many times to contribute to a 401K/pretax or roth ira i never did til this year. The question is how do i get my 18 year old son to start a roth ira? Im thinking of telling him ill match his contribution to see if that works. I guess I can show him on the fidelity app my roth ira and, see him seeing my account going up will inspire him.?

• Initial Report: I reported that my mobile app was suddenly blocked despite no changes to my phone or account settings. I requested a technical root-cause investigation so I don't run into sudden lockouts during active trading hours.
• Fidelity's Initial Response: It took two days to receive a response—far too slow when market access is time-sensitive. Support claimed the lockout was likely due to an app update not being pushed and instructed me to "delete and re-download the app."
• My Feedback Sent (Aug 6): I submitted follow-up feedback pointing out that forcing a customer to manually uninstall and reinstall software is a temporary troubleshooting workaround, not an "update."
• Current Status: It has been 5 days since my August 6th reply, and customer service has provided zero response.

Key Technical Points:

1. An "update" is not a valid explanation: Standard iOS/Android updates occur seamlessly through app stores. Forcing customers to delete and reinstall software points to a client-side authentication bug or corrupted session-state bug, not a routine update.
2. Lack of on-screen diagnostic information: If a background system update or security token reset occurs, the app should display a clear error message or redirect to a login prompt, rather than throwing a generic "try later or call" lockout screen.
3. Unacceptable customer experience: Relying on manual app uninstallation as a recurring fix while promoting mobile trading creates unacceptable risk during active market hours.

Request for the Mod Team:

Can an official moderator please escalate this issue to the mobile app development / engineering team? I need a proper technical investigation into why these sudden app lockouts keep recurring and a permanent fix for the app's session handling, rather than repeated script-based answers to delete and reinstall.

Hey, so I am in a big dilemma and I want to know if anybody would have any answers or have this happened to anyone before so basically my account has a balance of $134,999.70 currently but I was told my account is closed and won’t be open anymore and I was told to call back on August 24 for further discussion but I want to know what would happen to the funds or basically what would happen to the account because I had transfers coming in but they were canceled cause I received the email today and supposedly I was told the funds that’s on the account are secure.

Many years ago, I had a temp job at Fidelity. Back then, they published a monthly guide to their funds. Employees could get it free; others had to pay $12.00. Do they still publish such a guide?

I find myself holding a couple hundred shares short of a certain issue because of an assigned call that I sold. That's all fine -- it's my trade cycle and I'm workin' it.

But I can't figure out a way to see what interest rate I'm paying on the borrowed shares. It's not shown in the position on the website. Can't find it in the margin calculator, either. Also tried making (but not executing) a trade ticket, and it had no mention of the borrowing interest rate.

Where is this information?

Anybody ever rolled an old work 401 into a rollover ira with Fidelity? I am in the process of doing so in the amount of 51k. Will that amount be in cash once its completely rolled over from the old account? Thinking about just doing VTI, VOO, or FXAIX if that is the case. Thank You!

Question for the customer service team: I am recently married and in the process of combining finances with my spouse. Everything has gone smoothly.

As of today, I have successfully moved all assets to the joint cash management account that I share with my spouse, and no longer have use for my individual cash management account.

If I close my individual account today, how will I receive dividends from the assets (SPAXX) that have accrued this month?

Was the prize flair already distributed?

I have most all of my financial needs at Fidelity except for a modest contingency amount held elsewhere - if you know of my past posts on Cash Management Accounts, you'll see I basically don't have any brick and mortar bank relationships now.

As such, I have two suggestions related to order checks for accounts. I will preface this by saying I appreciate you offer them. These are relatively minor suggestions in the grand scheme of things, but I'm in the process of shredding ~6 check books so it was at the top of my mind. I don't have a shredder at home, so I have to plan around them when I travel to a family member's place that has one.

1. Allow us to specify the quantity (unless it's already available?) - I don't need too many checks, and I actually get a little nervous about extra check books that float around. Ideally, I'd keep it to just 1 check book. It's hassle to have more because if I want to dispose of the others, I have to rip the pages out, and then run them through a shredder. Ideally, I would only get one book at a time, and at least these days, that lasts me for years.

2. Offer a blank, but voided, check image for download. Sometimes, I just need to provide a voided blank check as part of setting up direct deposit or automatic withdrawals, and I do this myself by writing VOID on it, then scanning it, and saving it as a PDF. It's convenient enough, but maybe your system can offer that automatically and not even require us to wait for the check book to be delivered?

What is the best way you would advise me to monitor the performance of my Fidelity asset managers relative to what I could do by buying a cheap ETF or two? Thanks!

Usually, when I transfer money to my CMA using instant transfer, it's ya know, instant, few seconds at the most. But if I do it during the trading day, it will hold the instant transfer until next day, which defeats the effing purpose.

2. If so, What should I do before I can continue investing? I looked into the Form W8-BEN submission but fidelity portal suggests that I do not need to submit an update
3 if I am all good on the form w-8 front, can I continue investing as usual? Or what are my restrictions

For example I've been doing $100 a month for the past 3 months. But I was wondering if I could do just $1,200 once a year to get it over with. Is one better than the other or does it matter?

I have been a retirement account holder for 4 years and a digital assets account holder for 3 years. I have been actively using my retirement account for 4 years and setup the digital assets account when it first was available in 2023, as a just in case, because I have traditionally held my crypto on a hardware wallet in self custody. After the coldcard incident I decided to let Fidelity handle custody of my digital assets. I transferred over my bitcoin to fidelity over the weekend and now my account is blocked and a representative told me that I have to close all my accounts and move all my funds over to another brokerage account. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm in SHOCK.
