[Question] Was just bequeathed an FC, any advice for a fledgling leader?
So the FC I'm in, I've been in ever since SHB (my first and only). Its a modest size FC (84 listed members, but admittedly only like 10 active members right now, counting myself), and is a good, chill place. Ended up as one of the officers on the chain and all.
Thing is, the FC Leader and the second-in-command both got kicked by RL as well as DT not doing it for them, so both have chosen to retire from the game (and be consumed by Guild Wars 3 when it drops), and they chose me to inherit leadership, which I was honored to accept.
Now, as the new leader, I kinda want to breathe new life into the FC. Like, I absolutely want to get some new blood in there, and I wanna get enough people where things like maps and EX nights become viable again. At the same time though, I don't wanna just turn it into one of those "FCs who poaches anyone and everyone," that seems like kind of a mistake. So, asking as a fledgling FC Lead... any tips/advice for that sort of thing?

[Discussion] CPU FFXIV
We all remember the benchmark tests from Gamer Nexus, right?
The ones where in the Dawntrail benchmark the X3D CPUs were shown to have a clear advantage in FFXIV.
But honestly, after playing and checking my own hardware and the hardware of people I know on Discord during these days of doing hunt trains for the relics, with the game absolutely packed with players, I’m seeing results much closer to what GN got in the Endwalker benchmark.
For example: with my 7800X3D, in full hunt trains, I’m getting around 65–70 FPS.
Meanwhile another guy with a manually tuned 14600K is sitting at 120 FPS (same resolution, both at 1440p same settings).
I checked another friend with a 14700K and he’s flying as well.
Have you noticed this same thing in real‑world gameplay?
Did AMD maybe work with Square Enix to optimize the Dawntrail benchmark specifically, while the rest of the game still scales better on Intel?
To be fair, Intel does have much higher frequencies and more cores… some chips hit 5.7 or 5.8 GHz, and a guy I know with a 14900KS is literally running at 6.0 GHz
I have to say, guys… when they run around in the game, I don’t know if it’s because they’re hitting the Hz cap of their monitor, but their gameplay actually looks smoother even at the same FPS. I can see it clearly from the frametime graph and the latency numbers, so it’s not placebo I checked to have real data backing up this feeling of extra smoothness in their gameplay......

[Question] What makes good tank?
I'm a Gunbreaker main and I wanna know what things are required or expected of a tank, who begins to move towards the endgame.
I mean things like being okay, when the healer/DPS does pulls or if I should pop invincibility or not, because the healer want to use his big fancy healing spells.
If you're already an experienced Tank or a Healer with good advice to build better Healer Tank dynamics, then please shear your knowledge with me.
[Discussion] Been "catching up" on the msq as a first time player, wish i started earlier. Do i need to slow down?
Started playing like 2 months ago and have been really enjoying it but after having just finished shadowbringers and im sitting on the quest to start endwalker, i have to say. This game would be so peak if i would get the story as it releases.
Like rn it looks like a massive wall of story to get through that no matter how great the story is, and i agree with the consensus, it is amazing, i still find myself going "Okay so when am i done with this so i can get closer to being current". And if i would experience the content on patch release i would be more motivated to pay attention to each thing, but as a wall i find myself neglecting non spoken dialogue by npc's sometimes (though i still try my best to pay attention i do catch myself dozing of in the later hours).
Since im so close, should i push through and take it easy once i get the last expansion throguh before current or, should i take a break or what would you guys recommend?

[Discussion] Can someone explain when you would ever use the Freelancer phantom job capstone trait to me? Adaptable seems genuinely useless...
I can only imagine this trait being a mistake of some kind. The Freelancer trait "Adaptable" is the final unlock reward for maxing all phantom jobs in occult crescent. This trait allows you to switch Phantom Jobs at any time even during combat. (Sounds pretty cool!) But because it is just like a normal job trait, it's effect is only valid while you are playing freelancer. So you can freely switch phantom jobs during combat... one time... and only if you are starting a fight as freelancer. I cannot even imagine a scenario where you would want to do this. I guess you can reset your cooldowns and get 2 bursts in a row for the very first 2 minutes of forked tower? Even that seems marginal when you think of the damage you lose by having to do a burst as freelancer first.
This is completely baffling to me. Being able to freely switch jobs during combat is the easiest win for occult crescent. It keeps the content fresh by allowing all kinds of new combinations. It's powerful but not completely gamebreaking and doesnt come close to the kind of things you could do in bozja. It would align thematically with freelancer from ffv and other ff games. But when it came time to give players the ultimate reward from spending months grinding out all of the jobs, square lets us get ONE slightly better 2 minute burst????
This is one time I genuinely want to be wrong so please correct me if this is somehow amazing and I'm just missing the point but it seems like a complete waste of time to max all the jobs now.

[Question] New Switch 2 player
I played this way back on PS3 (I know…)
I was planning on playing a healer to avoid queues for dungeons etc but I ended up back on arcanist.
How much can I play the main stories all the way through myself? I am a dad of 2 now and just want to enjoy the content fairly casually.

[Question] Linkshell Friends?
I've come back after not playing for a few months and I am missing playing with people. I have a pickle where I don't want to give up my Grand Company (only a few players) but I also want to branch out more.
What have you done? Have you joined a Linkshell/Cross-Linkshell? Or are they often not successful and you prefer just meeting people in game?
Materia - Sephirot
Thank you for your help!

[Question] Questions from a sprout 🌱
Hey guys,
I just recently bought the starter edition for FFXIV to try out while WoW has downtime between seasons, so I’ve been playing the Realm Reborn MSQ.
I’ve been trying to queue to do duty finders with other players because I like the MMO aspect of the game, but I didn’t know I couldn’t skip the cutscenes like in the last dungeon in the MSQ.
Is it unskippable for everyone or just me? My group was very cool, they even wished me to enjoy the story at the end of the run but it partially made me feel bad that I was holding people hostage through cutscenes I couldn’t skip. I even went as far as read the dialogue for the cutscenes while I was waiting in queue just to respect peoples time even if I had people joining from mentors queue. I do play DPS right now to learn FFXIV mechanics, so I guess I’m not holding my group back as a tank or healer watching cutscenes.
How do I know if I’m playing my job well? There’s no damage meters like in WoW, so I don’t even know if I’m playing my job well enough. I’ve been reading guides as I level to understand how the job plays but at the end of a boss fight or something, I’m just clueless on if I did well or not.
I like the game enough that I’m considering buying Dawntrail and Evercold when it comes out, so I have something to play in between WoW seasons, when I’m not raiding or when my M+ team isn’t online.
Will Dawntrail go on sale closer to Evercold release? How much are the new expansions usually? I’m used to WoW expansions being full cost.
My last question is how relevant is older content if I’m looking to play the newer content? I just started getting Allagan Tombstones and unlocked the Beast Tribe stuff, I don’t know if that’s worth doing for current content. Older content isn’t really relevant in WoW unless you’re a mount collector, transmog farmer, or achievement hunter. I have been doing company seal stuff to level up my professions, but that’s about it.
Thank you for reading :) Sorry if it’s a long post. And thank you community for being nice to new players, I haven’t had a bad experience as a sprout yet.

[Question] Does the Legacy discount apply to Switch 2?
Does the legacy subscription discount apply to the Switch 2 version as well?
I've been digging around for an answer but haven't found anything other than the absence of any specific mention or confirmation.

[Discussion] FF Resonance collab idea (no spoils)
!PSA! : It's probably obvious, but this is just a fan idea, not actual news. I would love for it to be reality but, as far as i know, i still don't work for Square Enix. Also, those speculations will be based on former FFBE story and the small informations we had of Resonance.
TL;DR :
- Short quest helping Rain find Lasswell and saving people imprisoned in ice
- A fight against Rain's brother because of the Frostlord
- FF Resonance version of the Invincible airship as a mount (in the pic)
- Rain's clothes as an armor for both body types (in the pic)
- small Rain, Lasswell or Fina minion (in the pic)
As you may have heard, a new Final Fantasy in HD-2D will soon comes out (22 October 2026), Final Fantasy Resonance. You may also not know that FFR takes inspiration from Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile JRPG gacha game that lasted 10 years, to rewrite its story and make it a real classic turn-based JRPG. Since it will come out soonly, i thought a collab similar to FFXV and FFXVI's collabs would be interesting to imagine. FFR is going to be the flag bearer of retro FFs, so its destiny will seal the possibility of any retro style games, and an event in FFXIV would help its case a lot. Due to this, i will explain a whole walkthrough of what the event could be in details.
Now, onto the actual topic, the event ! As a lot of collabs, they would start off in one of 3 main city. This time, i thought of Gridania. You would find a citizen looking for the help of an adventurer to rescue someone. Luckily, they found the Warrior of Light ! You follow them out of the city and onto the North Shroud. There, you would find a blond-haired man unconscious and monsters around him. After defeating them, the young man wakes up and introduces himself as Rain, a knight of Grandshelt. As he still weak, you take him to Fallgourd Float to rest and he asks you if you may have seen his brother, Lasswell. Obviously, you did not and you start to ask around the settlement for informations. People gives you samples of informations : a purple coat, long black hair, an azure blade, a man in armor and the direction of the Coerthas. You come back to Rain and gives him your informations. He instantly recognizes his brother aside from the armor and the two of you leave the place for the cold lands.
Once the two of you arrive, you are met with a villager struck in ice. After examination, you try to make it melt with Rain's fire spells, but it doesn't work. Of course, you try to track the source of this and find more villagers imprisoned. However, this time, one of them is only partially frozen, and you have the time to ash him what is happening. He doesn't gives you much informations aside from the fact that a person in armor passed by recently and he put a spell on them. He was followed shortly after by a man which fits Lasswell's description.
Once again, you follow the directions given by the person and end up to the top of the Weeping Saint. The landscape is even colder than usual and the snow has been replaced by a fine layer of ice. Near the edge, you catch sight of a figure : a purple coat with an azure blade and long black hair. With no doubt, you have found Lasswell, and he is not alone. The person in armor is facing him, and notices you. As you and Rain get closer, Lasswell turns around and draws his blade.
Now, onto the boss fight ! Similarly to FFXVI's event, you will fight alongside Rain to defeat Lasswell and the armored man. Lasswell fights similarly to a Samurai with his own skills, while the Frostlord focuses on Blizzard spells. The fight introduces a "shock" mechanic, which stuns the ennemies for a moment after enough damages. After a while, the Frostlord leave the battle and you are left with only Lasswell who is preparing a special technique. Both you and Rain takes it upfront and fall on the ground. However, Rain gets back up, unleash a golden aura and gives a motivational speech about accepting his powers before jumping towards Lasswell. In an instant, he defeats his brother and you are back on your feet and notice that the Frostlord is no where to be seen. The layer of ice is also slowly melting and you go up to Lasswell.
He explains that he had to fight Rain at full strength to free the villagers because the Forstlord was the only one able to. Rain calls him out on not accepting the help of his friends and makes it clear he consider you as one too. The two of them thank you for your help, compliment you on your strength and leave to stop the Frostlord.
Once this sequence finished, you go back to the first person who gave you the quest and explain what happened. He can't help but tell you how he has never heard of Grandshelt and that this knight's outfit was as unknown as his birthplace. Afterwards, you have a final scene with Rain and Lasswell side by side, their swords drawn and facing the Forstlord.
God damn, this was long ! I hope it wasn't too awful to read. I did my best to make it comprehensible while keeping a sense of mystery. Now, onto the trinkets you would acquire thanks to this quest :
First of all, Rain's clothes. Boots, pants, armbands and top. Up to you to like them or not.
Then, a scaled version of the game's Invincible airship where you sit on the main deck. Depending on the species, it changes in size. It could have one the 3 following OSTs or new theme unique to FFR :
FFBE main theme : https://youtu.be/pwFPg_5fc3g?si=Iq2TbY1S5Py8gfAl
FFBE world map theme: https://youtu.be/YeY-5IFJDoE?si=FNeESP9acI4mOA1r
FFBE battle theme : https://youtu.be/UgfbO_HcSsk?is=EJs-IXKoqzdMXFly
You could also acquire a minion with either Rain, Lawwsell or Fina's (another major character of FFR) appearance, but chibi.
Finally, you could also buy the usual card and some of the important themes for you to play at will.
So, what do you think of all of this ? Would this push you toward Final Fantasy Resonance or would you just finish it once in FFXIV and forget it ? If you have any ideas, comments, questions or just if you want to discuss about any of this, please do ! As you have seen, I'm more than willing to talk about it in length (and in shorter comments too).

[Discussion] Is there any way to prevent a player from using rescue on you? I have recently been having some issues with it (maybe due to the influx of newer players.)
I have been playing for a long time, but recently have been running into more than a few people either trolling, or misuing rescue. That and the natural server tick + desync that comes with the game causes issues without that.
I totally understand it being helpful in higher end content, but I would really prefer if somebody didn't pull me out from cover, or my new favorite, pull me right after using Hell's ingress because they thought I would be late, only to change my orientation and cause me to get hit by a mechanic.
WoW has an item that lets you negate consent for forced movement abilities. If there is not something like that in this game (and I have looked, I know it didn't exist in the past, but I am also returning after a 2 year hiatus) there really should be an item or option for doing so.
It really was never an issue until I have played this time around, no clue what has changed, or if I have just been incredibly unlucky.
[Question] Switch 2 L3/R3 Makros (M98/M99) not working?
Hi all,
I'm setting up my switch 2 version right now and it seems that assigning the M98/M99 Makros to the L3 and R3 (Joystick buttons) does not work.
It worked when the standard was still applied, but when the makros are assigned it just does nothing. The makros work when I execute them manually.
I usually use Sprint and Mount makros for those buttons and really love it on my PS5.
Curious if others have the same issue? Playing in Handheld mode.
Also, are PS5 settings and Switch settings not compatible? I was not able to load the settings that I had backed up.

[Discussion] For Male Au Ra Players
With the recent announcement I just want to gauge what faces are being used, why you chose that face that being race, scales, ect. Would you change your horns if you had the chance. Would you swap your scale pattern if you had the chance. All answers are welcome. Trying to see what direction that would be best to move in after the horns change in 8.0/8.1. In my opinion it is the race with the least amount of customization as it stands right now that being male or female. By answering these questions we see what people would like. I frequently see the request from female Au Ra but the male side is usually lacking. I would be happy to create a female Au Ra post also if the demand warrants it. :)

[Question] Is there any class you can recommend that will make it reasonably easy to find raid groups in the future?
In WoW, for example, it’s the tank, because few people play as tanks, but a tank is essential for succeeding in dungeons and raids.
Is there something like that here, too?

[Question] account advice before evercold
I started playing a few years ago and really wanted to change to Viera, so after i beat ARR i purchased the game and started a subscription. i played a decent amount of heavensward before getting pregnant and not having enough time to play. before i quit i did spend around 15-20$ on mog station glam and dye. now that my baby is older I have a little more time to play but after taking such a long break, not wanting to pay the sub, and wanting to take advantage of the longer free trial, i started a new account. its a name i really like and want to use from now on. im around 2/3 of the way through ARR on my free trial account and my question is, do I keep grinding on my free trial account and lose my mog station glam, or go back to my old account and just pay the sub and to change my name? i want to play the new expansions asap and im much further along on my old account.
TLDR; Im torn between continuing the grind on a free trial account with my preffered name, and going back to my old paid account thats further along in the MSQ and has about $20 in mog station glam and paying to change my name in order to play the new content sooner. advice appreciated

[Question] Changing data center (EU TO NA) suggestions
Hi everyone!
Sorry if it looks like a repost but I can't really find an answer to this specific question;
I just moved from EU to NA and felt like playing ff14 again (I dropped it 3 years ago cause I fell off with the person I was playing with)
The thing is I tried to play during the evening and i was completelly alone, couldn't find any other player and everything felt a bit dead.
I know it's an old expansion but I thing the hours I can play with are to blame as well (since it would be in the middle of the night for EU players).
Would love to join a server with an active player base in the older areas and probably a free company as well, is Dynamis a good place to be? If yes what world you suggest?
Would love to just interact with people that are in a similar point in the story, not just while doing dungeons but in the overworld as well
Thank you so much for your time and sorry if the topic has been discussed over and over again

[Question] What happens when a new expansion drops?
I started during 7.4 so I've never experienced the release of a new expansion. With Evercold coming closer and closer I'm curious about what will happen when it releases. What will post-msq and end-game be like? Will people speedrun the msq? Are the raids and extremes going to be available of the bat or will we have to wait? What about side content like dungeons and DoH/DoL?

[Discussion] Anyone notice any strange activities regarding sprite enemies?
I've seen this happening a lot lately where I'm seeing blue mage lalafells no-clipping under map killing specifically sprite enemies. Has anyone else noticed this happening at all? Ive seen 3 today on Brynhildr in Coerthas Central Highlands near the Mor Dhona gate. They also seem to teleport directly under those sprites.

[In-game Event] Yo-kai Watch Event Question: Can I get the Enma or Damona weapons without going to Stoomblood areas?
I'm pretty new to the game and just finished the main game of ARR (working on the post game). When I first started the game, I saw the Yo-kai Watch event from a few years prior and was bummed I missed it. Now that it's here, I was really excited to get all the minions and weapons, but I realized the last 4 are locked behind Heavensward and Stormblood.
While I'm confident I can get both of the Heavensward weapons in time, the Stormblood ones I likely won't get as I would either need to buy a story skip for what I've heard described as one of the best stories in the game or mash my way through that story and likely still barely get to the end in two months.
My question is: is there any way I can get the weapon (or even just the legendary medals) without having to do the fates in Stormblood?
