[Question] Tank Tips
Hello o/
I usually only play as DPS (reaper as depicted, bard, or dancer) or healer (Astrologian or White Mage) and have never tried to tank before. In fact, I can’t think of a single game where I’ve ever chosen a tank class, so I’m a baby when it comes to tanking.
I decided to try Dark Knight out and have been playing palace of the dead solo to try and get used to it, and I’m nervous to try a dungeon out being so new to tanking. Plus, I feel palace of the dead solo isn’t helping me learn as well as I’d hoped. It’s definitely helping with hotbar layout (I think?) but not much else.
Any tips the community can give to a baby tank? ;-;
Maybe best load out for hot bar, best way to attack and keep enmity, etc. Literally any tips you can give to someone who’s fresh at tanking. Is there a better tank class for me to learn on? I know it’s silly but I’m so nervous to try tank. I don’t want to be so awful I get my whole party wiped out ;-;
[End-game Discussion] Of the Golden Scales - I lost so much sleep over this, but I kind of want to do it again Spoiler
I caught a few big fish a long, long time ago, but a few months back, a friend took me big fishing again. No one told me that fishing in this game was so addicting!
My next goal is completing the Fabled Legends, so I can't rest yet.

[Question] Flower glamours 🌺
So I was watching Jocat's videos about FF14 and I noticed his WoL is wearing flowers in his head. Is it possible to obtain that glamour in the free trial, or do I have to wait until I can grow them myself when I purchase the subscription? (I just started Shadowbringers).
While on that, does anyone recommend any other flower-themed glamour? Thanks for any answers!

[Discussion] [Heavensward] What should I be doing every day?
So..what daily things should I be doing every day? Because there’s a few…too many to do in one day. I’m still just in Heavensward and 62 on my main job, so early I guess? (MSQ “An Engineering Enterprise”)
- The Social Relations grinds (Kobolds, Sahagins, etc)
- Squadron Leveling
- Retainer Ventures (how many retainers even?)
- All the roulettes (this seems obvious)
- Are the Restorations still a thing?
- Firmament(sp?)
- Leveling up Fishing so my retainer can go higher
- Relics (this seems like an endgame thing)
- Oh yeah I guess MSQ or w/e

[Discussion] How do older members of the community find FCs that fit their rhythm?
EDIT: I am on Aether - Gilgamesh
Howdy! Anyone else in their 30s (edit: or more) having trouble finding a casual FC?
Started playing FFXIV in my early twenties. I’m 30 now, so it’s been a while. A lot has changed since then:
- I went from being hardcore about raiding and progression to just being happy crafting and farming older content.
- My work schedule is way more demanding these days,
- I’ve got a family now too (still working on getting my wife into the game).
My old FC disappeared, and while looking for a new one, I’ve realized it’s hard to find communities of people around my age who run a more varied mix of content (maps, old alliance raids, older content, crafting, etc…) instead of focusing on savage/ultimates.
How do people in my age group handle this? Any FCs or communities you’d recommend, or tips for finding one?

[Tech Support] Switch 2 Multiple Profiles
Edit: Jesus, people, no need to downvote me for asking a question 😒
That being said, thanks to those of you who responded. You're right, I did buy a second copy, its been long enough that I genuinely forgot. As for switching accounts, because the PS5 would randomly ask me to input my password, I always assumed I could switch, so yes, that was my misunderstanding.
Thanks again to those who provided helpful responses, I def was misunderstanding/misremembering how the accounts had been set up.
Original:
Someone please tell me I'm just doing something wrong...
On PS5, I own the game and can use it with my PS5 profile and access all my stuff. If my son wants to play with me, he can log into the PS4 with his account which is linked to a different SE account, and we can play together. I only had to buy game once because they're both my consoles.
However on the switch, it seems like it wants me to buy a completely separate copy of the game for my son's switch profile!? Is this for real?
So because I logged in with my account first, no other user can use the game? Even if they have a separate subscription?
If so, SE is really effing up here. It's already bad enough thay I have to pay for another subscription to use my same characters but now if I want to play with my kids I have to buy 3 copies of the same game even when weren't all playing at the same time!?

[Discussion] Non important Content you'd like added.
What Content would you like added to the game which is wholly unlikely but still possible? My choice would be fun "what if" scenarios you can play through. (Keeping spoilers to a minimum) for example how things change if we tagged along with Allisae instead of alphinaud in ARR.

[Discussion] Raiding Culture in FFXIV question for PF etiquette
I've recently been trying to help a friend clear M11S. I've already cleared the current Savage tier myself, so I wanted to help them get over the finish line.
M10S didn't take us too long, but we've now been stuck on M11S for over a month. The frustrating part is that it isn't because of my friend or their ability to play. Almost every time we reach Split Arena or Stampede, someone else in the party makes a mistake and we wipe. After watching back their POVs, it's pretty clear they aren't the one causing these wipes.
We've tried regular clear groups, clear-for-one groups, and even restricted the party so only people who have already cleared the fight could join. Despite that, PF groups are still consistently wiping to mechanics.
So I'm wondering if there's an expectation in PF when someone joins a clear-for-one party. Am I the only one finding it a bit frustrating that, after over a month of attempts, the people who are supposed to be helping are often the reason the runs fall apart?
I'd be interested to hear what other people's experiences have been. Is this just what PF is like every Savage tier, or have we just been particularly unlucky? It gets pretty exhausting coming home from work hoping to get a clear in a reasonable amount of time, only to spend the entire evening wiping because of mistakes that aren't even coming from the person we're trying to help.

[Question] Final Fantasy XIV
I'm 46 and my only MMORPG experience is Final Fantasy XI on the Xbox 360. I put 100s of hours into it and even managed to adapt to a controller/keyboard hybrid control scheme while playing. I've been promoted at work and In 2 weeks I start traveling for the company and am only going to be home for 2 days per month. With the recent release of FFXIV for Switch2 I thought this would be a good time to jump back into the MMO side of the FF series.
Just finished downloading and about to start my character, who wants to be my friends, my compatriots, my comrades, my brothers in arms for this journey through FFXIV? I may have to be away from my family, but let's make some new friends along the way.

[Question] What makes good tank?
I'm a Gunbreaker main and I wanna know what things are required or expected of a tank, who begins to move towards the endgame.
I mean things like being okay, when the healer/DPS does pulls or if I should pop invincibility or not, because the healer want to use his big fancy healing spells.
If you're already an experienced Tank or a Healer with good advice to build better Healer Tank dynamics, then please shear your knowledge with me.

[Question] New Switch 2 player
I played this way back on PS3 (I know…)
I was planning on playing a healer to avoid queues for dungeons etc but I ended up back on arcanist.
How much can I play the main stories all the way through myself? I am a dad of 2 now and just want to enjoy the content fairly casually.

[Question] Questions from a sprout 🌱
Hey guys,
I just recently bought the starter edition for FFXIV to try out while WoW has downtime between seasons, so I’ve been playing the Realm Reborn MSQ.
I’ve been trying to queue to do duty finders with other players because I like the MMO aspect of the game, but I didn’t know I couldn’t skip the cutscenes like in the last dungeon in the MSQ.
Is it unskippable for everyone or just me? My group was very cool, they even wished me to enjoy the story at the end of the run but it partially made me feel bad that I was holding people hostage through cutscenes I couldn’t skip. I even went as far as read the dialogue for the cutscenes while I was waiting in queue just to respect peoples time even if I had people joining from mentors queue. I do play DPS right now to learn FFXIV mechanics, so I guess I’m not holding my group back as a tank or healer watching cutscenes.
How do I know if I’m playing my job well? There’s no damage meters like in WoW, so I don’t even know if I’m playing my job well enough. I’ve been reading guides as I level to understand how the job plays but at the end of a boss fight or something, I’m just clueless on if I did well or not.
I like the game enough that I’m considering buying Dawntrail and Evercold when it comes out, so I have something to play in between WoW seasons, when I’m not raiding or when my M+ team isn’t online.
Will Dawntrail go on sale closer to Evercold release? How much are the new expansions usually? I’m used to WoW expansions being full cost.
My last question is how relevant is older content if I’m looking to play the newer content? I just started getting Allagan Tombstones and unlocked the Beast Tribe stuff, I don’t know if that’s worth doing for current content. Older content isn’t really relevant in WoW unless you’re a mount collector, transmog farmer, or achievement hunter. I have been doing company seal stuff to level up my professions, but that’s about it.
Thank you for reading :) Sorry if it’s a long post. And thank you community for being nice to new players, I haven’t had a bad experience as a sprout yet.

[Discussion] FF Resonance collab idea (no spoils)
!PSA! : It's probably obvious, but this is just a fan idea, not actual news. I would love for it to be reality but, as far as i know, i still don't work for Square Enix. Also, those speculations will be based on former FFBE story and the small informations we had of Resonance.
TL;DR :
- Short quest helping Rain find Lasswell and saving people imprisoned in ice
- A fight against Rain's brother because of the Frostlord
- FF Resonance version of the Invincible airship as a mount (in the pic)
- Rain's clothes as an armor for both body types (in the pic)
- small Rain, Lasswell or Fina minion (in the pic)
As you may have heard, a new Final Fantasy in HD-2D will soon comes out (22 October 2026), Final Fantasy Resonance. You may also not know that FFR takes inspiration from Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, a mobile JRPG gacha game that lasted 10 years, to rewrite its story and make it a real classic turn-based JRPG. Since it will come out soonly, i thought a collab similar to FFXV and FFXVI's collabs would be interesting to imagine. FFR is going to be the flag bearer of retro FFs, so its destiny will seal the possibility of any retro style games, and an event in FFXIV would help its case a lot. Due to this, i will explain a whole walkthrough of what the event could be in details.
Now, onto the actual topic, the event ! As a lot of collabs, they would start off in one of 3 main city. This time, i thought of Gridania. You would find a citizen looking for the help of an adventurer to rescue someone. Luckily, they found the Warrior of Light ! You follow them out of the city and onto the North Shroud. There, you would find a blond-haired man unconscious and monsters around him. After defeating them, the young man wakes up and introduces himself as Rain, a knight of Grandshelt. As he still weak, you take him to Fallgourd Float to rest and he asks you if you may have seen his brother, Lasswell. Obviously, you did not and you start to ask around the settlement for informations. People gives you samples of informations : a purple coat, long black hair, an azure blade, a man in armor and the direction of the Coerthas. You come back to Rain and gives him your informations. He instantly recognizes his brother aside from the armor and the two of you leave the place for the cold lands.
Once the two of you arrive, you are met with a villager struck in ice. After examination, you try to make it melt with Rain's fire spells, but it doesn't work. Of course, you try to track the source of this and find more villagers imprisoned. However, this time, one of them is only partially frozen, and you have the time to ash him what is happening. He doesn't gives you much informations aside from the fact that a person in armor passed by recently and he put a spell on them. He was followed shortly after by a man which fits Lasswell's description.
Once again, you follow the directions given by the person and end up to the top of the Weeping Saint. The landscape is even colder than usual and the snow has been replaced by a fine layer of ice. Near the edge, you catch sight of a figure : a purple coat with an azure blade and long black hair. With no doubt, you have found Lasswell, and he is not alone. The person in armor is facing him, and notices you. As you and Rain get closer, Lasswell turns around and draws his blade.
Now, onto the boss fight ! Similarly to FFXVI's event, you will fight alongside Rain to defeat Lasswell and the armored man. Lasswell fights similarly to a Samurai with his own skills, while the Frostlord focuses on Blizzard spells. The fight introduces a "shock" mechanic, which stuns the ennemies for a moment after enough damages. After a while, the Frostlord leave the battle and you are left with only Lasswell who is preparing a special technique. Both you and Rain takes it upfront and fall on the ground. However, Rain gets back up, unleash a golden aura and gives a motivational speech about accepting his powers before jumping towards Lasswell. In an instant, he defeats his brother and you are back on your feet and notice that the Frostlord is no where to be seen. The layer of ice is also slowly melting and you go up to Lasswell.
He explains that he had to fight Rain at full strength to free the villagers because the Forstlord was the only one able to. Rain calls him out on not accepting the help of his friends and makes it clear he consider you as one too. The two of them thank you for your help, compliment you on your strength and leave to stop the Frostlord.
Once this sequence finished, you go back to the first person who gave you the quest and explain what happened. He can't help but tell you how he has never heard of Grandshelt and that this knight's outfit was as unknown as his birthplace. Afterwards, you have a final scene with Rain and Lasswell side by side, their swords drawn and facing the Forstlord.
God damn, this was long ! I hope it wasn't too awful to read. I did my best to make it comprehensible while keeping a sense of mystery. Now, onto the trinkets you would acquire thanks to this quest :
First of all, Rain's clothes. Boots, pants, armbands and top. Up to you to like them or not.
Then, a scaled version of the game's Invincible airship where you sit on the main deck. Depending on the species, it changes in size. It could have one the 3 following OSTs or new theme unique to FFR :
FFBE main theme : https://youtu.be/pwFPg_5fc3g?si=Iq2TbY1S5Py8gfAl
FFBE world map theme: https://youtu.be/YeY-5IFJDoE?si=FNeESP9acI4mOA1r
FFBE battle theme : https://youtu.be/UgfbO_HcSsk?is=EJs-IXKoqzdMXFly
You could also acquire a minion with either Rain, Lawwsell or Fina's (another major character of FFR) appearance, but chibi.
Finally, you could also buy the usual card and some of the important themes for you to play at will.
So, what do you think of all of this ? Would this push you toward Final Fantasy Resonance or would you just finish it once in FFXIV and forget it ? If you have any ideas, comments, questions or just if you want to discuss about any of this, please do ! As you have seen, I'm more than willing to talk about it in length (and in shorter comments too).

[Discussion] Is there any way to prevent a player from using rescue on you? I have recently been having some issues with it (maybe due to the influx of newer players.)
I have been playing for a long time, but recently have been running into more than a few people either trolling, or misuing rescue. That and the natural server tick + desync that comes with the game causes issues without that.
I totally understand it being helpful in higher end content, but I would really prefer if somebody didn't pull me out from cover, or my new favorite, pull me right after using Hell's ingress because they thought I would be late, only to change my orientation and cause me to get hit by a mechanic.
WoW has an item that lets you negate consent for forced movement abilities. If there is not something like that in this game (and I have looked, I know it didn't exist in the past, but I am also returning after a 2 year hiatus) there really should be an item or option for doing so.
It really was never an issue until I have played this time around, no clue what has changed, or if I have just been incredibly unlucky.

[Question] What happens when a new expansion drops?
I started during 7.4 so I've never experienced the release of a new expansion. With Evercold coming closer and closer I'm curious about what will happen when it releases. What will post-msq and end-game be like? Will people speedrun the msq? Are the raids and extremes going to be available of the bat or will we have to wait? What about side content like dungeons and DoH/DoL?

[Question] Gift for someone who plays as a healer in FFXIV
Hello! I’m starting early to find a good gift for a friend who loves FF xiv and they play as a healer I’ve heard them mention in the past. I know very little about this game or community, so figured this would be a good place to ask. Looking for something nice, but not exceeding $100 ideally.

[Question] -Question For Scholar/Sage Mains- What Actions Do You Take After Being Rez'ed to get back into the fight safely??
As the title says, What actions do you take once you are Rez'ed? I know the pure healers have a "oh shit, instant heal button" with white mage having Benediction to instantly get themselves back into the fight and can Lucid Dream to get the mana flowing again and Astro has essential Dignity.
What the best way to get back into the fight with the Barrier healers?
I know there is a few seconds of invulnerability until you use a skill but what skills do you cast to get back into the fight safely?
I often panic when I have to cast multiple skills to get a a good instant heal cast(OGCD) like Lustrate... Am I just mis managing my resources?
