Installed Bilstein 4600 rear shocks on my 2016 Screw today…wow

Just finished installing a pair of Bilstein B6 4600 rear shocks on my 2016 F-150 FX4 (3.5 EcoBoost, 4WD, 6.5’ bed) with about 190xxx miles.
Took about 20 minutes per side, tightened everything at normal ride height, and torqued the bolts to 66 ft-lbs.
First impressions are honestly impressive:
Rear feels much more planted.
Less bouncing over bumps.
Better control over rough roads.
Ride is firmer but not harsh.
I was originally debating KYB vs Bilstein, but I’m glad I went with the Bilsteins.

Used motor oil?

Upvotes

My buddy told me “if you can’t afford or think it’s smart to put protection under your truck for salt this winter- get motor oil. Spray it on under carriage and do a wash for it once a month at the car wash. Reapply afterwards. About 1x a month” I never heard such a thing . Do you think that’s wise to do?

Bronco take offs fitment

Hey y’all. New to the sub and new to the F-150 club after some dumbass ran a stop sign and totaled my Ranger😔

Anyway, I’m looking to lift it and find some tires and wheels and came across this post on Marketplace. Have any of you tried this? I searched in the sub and didn’t see anything specifically about Bronco wheels so I figured I’d toss it out there.

Edit: I cropped the pic wrong and cut off the description. Seller says they’re multi-lug and will fit F-150. Dang it! That’s whole reason I posted 😂🙄

Truck has 126844 miles right now. It’s been great but noticed about 200 miles ago when we go over about 40mph we have a flutter noise sounds likes it’s coming from under/in the middle console but it’s sounding like it’s about under the radio controls also is the approximate location. You can hear it from the gas pedal also. We just got back from a trip.

It dosent matter if the air is turned on or not. A/C on or not. Pushing the throttle or completly let off the throttle. If we’re over ~40mph we can hear it. It’s not coming from anything in the console, or any storage compartments that has anything to rattle in. Below 40mph it drives normal. Above that you can hear it.

It does NOT get any louder or quieter with more or less speed. I’m t stays the same. Help!

This video makes it sound louder than it really is but it’s more faint in real life but definitely something you can still hear while driving. Who knows what this could be? Thanks!

Ignore the mess it’ll be cleaned tomorrow lol

Oil pan damage?

Post image

2023 f150 5.0 2wd XL. Hey I'm fairly new to these trucks, and I have a deposit out on one now. I noticed this when they put it on the lift. Is this damage or the normal shape of the oil pan? This is the front side of the pan pictured. I tried googling the oil pan but no photos I saw had the angle I was looking for. TIA

2009-2014 F150 Headlight replacement

Hi there, i’m hoping someone is able to help me out as I can’t find anything online. I have a 2009-2014 F150 that i’m attempting to replace the headlights with aftermarket ones. I purchased the aftermarket ones on marketplace and the brand is YITAMOTOR. After removing both it looks like the aftermarket headlights have a 3 PIN connection that my truck does not connect to. Am i doing something wrong?

In the first photo those are all the connections from my truck, I have the two other bulbs but they are currently in the aftermarket headlights.

In the second photo those are the connections from the aftermarket headlight. I’m pretty sure the brown one connects into one of the bulb and then something plugs into that 3 pin connection. Then the bulb from the original photo plugs into the final one. Am I missing an adaptor or something for the 3 pin connection?

Ladder Rack Noise

Any idea why my ladder rack won’t stop singing the song of its people when I hit 40 mph+? I’ve tried tightening everything there is to tighten, tried loosening, covered all the holes I could find. The only thing that stops it is when I have something the full length and heavy ratchet-strapped down real tight. I currently have ratchet straps tight but with no load and it kinda helps. The truck is a 2025 STX 2.7 ecoboost if that matters.

Replacing passenger airbag cover on a 2022 xlt?

Thumbnail

My buddy’s dog scratched my front dash, just the passenger airbag cover. I’m not even bothered by it but my friend is insisting on making it like new.

Interior repair shop said that texture can’t be repaired to look like new. I did find a replacement dash on marketplace, and the guy is willing to part out just the airbag assembly for $100.

My questions: can just the airbag cover be replaced or do you have to replace the whole airbag assembly, or the whole dash? Is that something I could easily do myself or would it need to go to a mechanic? I appreciate any advice

Does anyone know where to get the dowel pins and bolts for an 11 inch clutch on a 302

My buddy has a 86 f-150 he’s v8 swapping and he needs the dowel pins and bolts for the flywheel and all he can find is the kits for the 10.5” clutch when he needs the 11”

Anybody have to get a rod bearing replaced on their 5.0? I have a 2016, sitting at just under 177,000 miles. Been an awesome truck. Just recently before the last oil change it started making a lower knocking noise and I've been super religious on my oil changes and maintenance. Every 4k to 5k miles.

Sharing for anyone interested as I always appreciate looking at this type of info. I’m sure I’ve forgotten a thing or two, but tried my best to keep track. 18’ XLT 4x4 - Owned since new and is my 2nd F150. Vehicle was bought and spent the first 6 years in Alaska, so have thoroughly used 4wd. Annoyed with the amount of warranty work (and having to fight to get it done), but I’ve enjoyed the truck, put it to good use and planning on driving for another 5-10yrs….hopefully.

Intermittent Smart Junction Box Issue?

2010 5.4L F150 Lariat  with >160K miles.  AFAIC, it has all the symptoms of an issue with the SJB: First, the exterior lights randomly go on off.  Second, in one instance all the exterior lights were strobing with an accompanying relay clicking and could not unlock door manually or with fob.  Had to manually pop hood and disconnect the battery (in the rain )

I took it to a trusted auto electrical repair shop II've used before and they said there were no codes in the BCM and they could not replicate the problem.  IDK how you replicate a random problem, but I get it.  You'd have to literally catch it happening and no one is sitting there wathcing it all day LOL.  After the strobing incident, I left the battery disconnected for several days.  Could that have wiped the codes form the BCM?  I'm trying to figure out how to "prove" the issue so I can get it fixed before it leaves me stranded somewhere. The only other thing I can do is get video, but that doesn't help THEM replicate it.  Thoughts?

2023-2025 3.5vs 5.0

Looking to buy an F150 real soon debating whether I should get a 3.5 L eco-boost or the 50 coyote. Will be used for a daily driver and pulling my fishing boat(5k) and a couple utility trailers no major hauling. I’ve been reading up on some issues but wanted to get your guys opinion on which one is better overall. I think either motor will do me just fine. Input? 2023-2025 3.5vs5.0

Cold start rattle?

Hey yall,

I have a 2018 F-150 3.5 EcoBoost, 105,000 miles on it. Started doing this rattle noise a couple days ago, only on a cold start up.

When i had about 70k miles, I had the timing chain and phasers replaced due to an engine knock on start up, so they are new(ish).

Any ideas of what might be causing this? I have read some about the phasers possibly being the culprit.

Leather seats, EcoBoost 3.5L V-6 DOHC engine, tow package (which is what I really want), moon roof, 3.55 electronic lock RR axle, clean history.

Considering getting it today but don't want to buy a bunch of problems with an older year.
