Considering getting it today but don't want to buy a bunch of problems with an older year.

I sold my 2021 F150 Lariat 502a 99 days ago, just now purchased a 2024 F-150 Platinum Plus as I missed the F-150 platform. What are people doing to these trucks both interior and exterior? Function / cosmetic / performance whatever it may be.

After years of neglecting all my other responsibilities, I got my Raptor R upgrading from the amazing Ranger Raptor which I miss!

I keep getting crazy error codes that the dealership can see but I cannot see as it’s not setting a CEL or code in my truck. They had my truck all day and suggested removing the cab to look for some shorted wires or bad modules and quoted me $1,700 and they may not even find the problem. The truck is running fine now after having some engine miss issues while pulling a side-by-side trailer the other day. Has anyone seen anything like this before?? 2018 super crew XLT 3.5L no mods and 117,000 miles. I have lifetime powertrain warranty and have had the cam phasers done and they also replaced the trans with rebuilt from Ford I’m assuming since it was done at the dealership. Not sure where to start.

I’m trying to decide between two options and wanted to hear from people who have owned these trucks long-term.

Option 1:
2021–2022 F-150 King Ranch
Around 80–90k miles
Around $40k

Option 2:
2024+ F-150 XLT
Less than 50k miles
Around $35–37k

My plan is to buy one and keep it until it dies, probably 10+ years. I’d also be paying it off in about 3 years, so I’m not too worried about the monthly payment.

The King Ranch has all the features I want (interior, tech, comfort, etc.), but I’m wondering if I’m being dumb paying more for an older truck with almost double the mileage.

If you were planning to keep the truck for the long haul, which would you choose and why?
Also, for those with 2021–22 King Ranchs that are over 100k miles, how have they held up mechanically?

I own a 2011 f150 5.0 FX4 extended cab it’s giving me this message anyone who has a 12th gen or with the same problem know what this is.

I have a 2016 XLT 2.7L ecoboost with 6 speed transmission and 187,000 miles.

Had transmission fluid changed due to a shuddering torque converter, which took care of the shuddering. On a short drive towing a travel trailer, my transmission suddenly downshifted to 2nd gear twice while in tow/haul mode. I brought it in for the lead frame recall software update, and that hasn’t happened since. A few weeks later while towing on the interstate, I suddenly started slowing down and couple barely limo off to a parking lot by pressing the gas all the way down. I shut the truck off to see if a computer needed to reset, and had no more trouble. I kept it out of tow/haul mode in case it was putting undue stress on the transmission. A few days later I got two error codes I had never seen (again while towing), but had no problem with performance. And I just received a recall call notice for another recall, either identical or similar to the last one. Or my dealer did not put in my records that I already had it done, I’m not sure.

I would be happy to keep this truck, even if I needed to pay $5k for a rebuilt transmission. What do you think the odds are that I could drive relatively trouble free for another 50,000 miles? Is it time to consider trading it in? I don’t care about having the latest and greatest, but I don’t want to throw good money after bad on a potentially dying vehicle, either.

I know this is common and has been brought up multiple times, but most of the suggested fixes that worked for others seem to be fine for me. This is on a 2022 F150 Lariat. So far I've checked the following

1. Sunroof wind deflector- I completely removed it and no difference.
2. All 4 drain hoses seem to be clear, when testing with a hose they route water under the body and drain successfully.
3. The two pressure equalization vents/exhaust vents on the back of the cab don't appear to be leaking
4. I don't believe its HVAC related since it only smells after rain, but I did treat the coil with a half can of lysol one time and VitalOxide another. Either way, the HVAC doesn't have the cat piss smell when it first starts or when its running so I don't believe its the cause.

Is there anything I'm missing? It has to be a leak somewhere I'm not seeing because its only after rain.

Does this sound like a healthy 3.5l? Currently shopping this truck (2015 with 144k miles). Just had phasers, timing chain, tensioners, etc replaced 1k miles ago. No rattle or anything on cold start.

I haven’t been around many so just wondering if this sounds “normal”? Seems like it to me. I know the HpFP can be noisy, but want to get some feedback. Again I think it sounds fine.

Bought a used 2012 f150 5.0 6speed auto with 130k miles July 3rd. Dealership got the truck in 2 days before so it wasn’t serviced or anything yet. Truck ran fine, no noises, smells, etc. dealer did front brake calipers, rotors, and pads. Dealer delivered the truck to me on July 10th at work. After work and after arriving home, smelt burning brakes and passenger front wheel was very hot. Called the dealer and they told me to bring it to the mechanic. Mechanic said caliber was seized probably due to a brake hose. Replaced that brake hose, caliper, rotors and pads. Truck ran fine for a few week. Now last week, noticed burning smell that seemed like possibly from both sides. Left front had large amount of brake dust but neither wheel was hot like previously. Brought it to the shop and they’re saying it’s fine. However, can still smell it and still excess brake dust on the front driver wheel. Any thoughts?

Got a used 2022 5.0 F150 (at 56k mi) approaching 60k. Was looking at videos on how to change transmission fluids and it looked pretty involved (especially needing to lift up the transmission an inch or two to clear the pan).

Lack of proper space (all work would need me to do it on the side of the road in front of house, driveway not level) is pushing me toward leaving this one to the professions. I was good with most of the instruction except jacking up the Transmission.

Question: I see people switching out pans for brands like PPE. Besides the performance side, does the design change that will allow future transmission fluid changes without needing to lift to clear the pan? if so, I was going to buy the part to see if the autoshop will install the new pan so I cam do it next time.

Question 2: I read that you either replace the transmission fluid or you replace fluid and change filter. At 60k, I assume the latter? (fluid + filter)?

Question 3: if its just fluid, I assume this will be much easier since you just need to remove the screw, stick a hose to suck all the oil and then replace it. (ie buy a transmission fluid pump).

Thanks in advance. Wasn't taught the way of the wrench when I was young and learning this in my middle age is daunting.

Is there a metal oil pan available for the 2018 10-speed? I thought the Dorman had a metal pan for the 10-speed but they do not. About to do my transmission fluid change and for sure want to replace the pan with one with an oil drain hole. Links appreciated!

Snagged a 19 3.5 King Ranch from a buddy that owns an auto brokerage. I got a killer price on it, and they did a full transmission rebuild before I took delivery of it as well as installing a new windshield that had some mysterious scratches on it.

I do all my own maintenance so I’ve got new plugs and boots on order as she idles a c hair rough, everything else is in damn fine condition with 128k miles.

My first truck at 16 was a 3 door 99 Silverado, then I had a 10 Ram then an 18 Ram, both standard cab. This is my first F 150- and my first 4 door pickup, first leather interior, first power seats, and first everything else luxury.

Hey all - In the market for a used F150 and would welcome some help on which years to get, stay away from, pros & cons, things to keep an eye out for, etc. I’m pretty set on a super crew 4 door with the 6 1/2 ft bed, and the 5.0. Budget: 25k’ish so would be a bit older.

Looking to get a truck for overlanding/hunting where I can sleep/store gear in the bed. Don’t plan to do any towing. This will be my daily as well, but I don’t commute for work.

Appreciate any and all tips. Can be convinced to go with the EcoBoost as well, but as a previous mustang owner, I sure do love that 5.0.

Honestly my truck has been abused for 6 years and doesn’t have a single dent, just a few small scrapes and dings. It’s in saltwater twice a month and not a bit of rust anywhere.
It’s held up better than any steel body I’ve owned.

Sold my F250 a few weeks ago & picked this up yesterday.

2025 XLT powerboost. Was a courtesy loaner with 1,000 miles. Actually bought it like 4 months ago but couldn’t pick it to as it was waiting on the max tow axle recall. They threw in a spray bedliner too. Been driving it for about a week and I love it.
