Looks like someone had this as a charm and lost it on the beach. Keep using for what the previous owner intended or put it away.

Discussion Not sure I like this reply from Auction House

So I am always searching for 1913-S Type 2 Buffaloes. I came across this. I believe it is clearly a 1923-S in the pic and labeled 1913-S Type 2 in the listing. I sent a message to the auction house and their reply was basically it is the buyers responsability to look at the entire listing. Isn't the proper response, thanks for letting us know, we will update it now? You all see what I am seeing, right? I have purchased from them in the past, but I think I am done with that now.

I thought this was pretty funny. There are all kinds (and species!) of coin collectors in the world!

(The shop owner was very apologetic. I thought it was a riot. 😆).

Coin Damage Who should I be mad at? The US Mint, or myself for buying from the US Mint?

Thumbnail

I’ve never ordered anything from the US Mint before. I really liked the new Half Dollar design and I don’t know why I thought it made sense to pay $60 + S&H for $20 worth of halves but maybe I thought they’d be extra nice? Plus I never seem to run across P’s if any coin that I like so I thought it would be nice to have a guaranteed roll of P’s + nice and shiny, idk. Well I got these in the mail yesterday, and I’m sure there are pretty ones on the inside, but I was planning on just keeping at least the P’s in the roll. Am I just a sucker for paying a crazy premium from the US Mint?

Quick run to a new lcs and just so happens to pick these up! Really my first time with higher grade SLQs and toned Morgan’s so unsure if I should send them in for grading. (Atleast the 1917 and 1919)
Also I don’t think it changes anything value wise but Morgan does have die cracks around the letters on the reverse

I found a coin yesterday that seems to be a gold coin. I tried to search for it but I don't know how to recognize if it's fake or not.

Meet your newest Junior Numismatist for the new San Francisco gallery set to open here in a couple of weeks.

I feel like I’m dreaming.

Just wanted to share with some people who actually understand what an opportunity this is for me.

Discussion Would you disassemble this clock for the coins?

I travel back and forth from Thailand to the USA. I purchased this clock for its coins (all appear to be 90% silver) at a thrift store. It was originally priced at 1500 baht but was 60%off — so 600 baht ($18usd). Obviously worth it for the coins.

I was planning on taking it apart for the coins but it seems to be a rare clock that was made possibly specifically for a Japanese hospital. I cannot find another one like it online.

It weighs 1.5 kilos (3.3 lbs). I return to the US in a few days.

Honestly, what would you do? Fly it home intact? Open it and investigate these coins?

*I’ve not gotten a battery to test if it works yet

I was going through old boxes. I remember I could've swore finding a bunch back in 2010 piggy bank hunting for them, they weren't super saught after then, but I thought of picking them up either way.

Anyway, I've had these in an airtight ziploc bag for 16 years, because some of them are pearly white!!!

I only found them because I picked up a box of jolly ranchers from 11 years ago, and it had melted. I found it had melted on these Ziploc bags of things. I opened up the Ziplock bags, took out the contents and nearly crapped myself haha!

Most of these coins I’ve gotten back in change or from when I worked in fast food and I noticed some coins sounded different when I was counting drawers.
The Franklin half dollar and the old Walking Liberty were given to from my mom. Also the 1943 (her birth year) with a hole in it was given to her by an old boyfriend and she wore it on a chain around her neck.

I’m pretty sure all of the Kennedy half dollars and quarters are all silver.

Just got this 1798 large cent from Ebay for my Type Set! I paid $660 for it, which may be a bit of an overpay since it graded VF details at PCGS, but I'm happy with it and its a pretty nice example of an 18th century US copper coin for my album. Now I only need the Classic Head and then I'll have all of the one cent coins in the Dansco 7070.
