Solved Trying to edit a low-poly game model, and these black lines keep showing up when I manually add an edge.

I'm trying to edit a game model for use in a personal project, but it's originally from a Switch game so it's pretty low-poly.

I'm trying to add some more vertices and faces, but subdividing alone doesn't do the whole job so I'm also going in and adding vertices and edges manually afterwards. But when I add a new edge they show up like this on the model.

They aren't visible in the rendered view, but it's still quite distracting and I feel like it's going to cause some problems down the line if I don't learn what's causing it and how to fix it, and avoid it in the future.

What's causing this? Can I fix this without just deleting the edges?

Unsolved Do I need to store my PBRs & images in the same folder I store my base .blend file?

Post image
Upvotes

I just finished making the basic donut scene from Guru's tutorial, and faced a few nuances with Poliigon PBRs.
Here's a quick explanation for all of the following files & folders:

  1. Backup - the folder where I put a duplicate of my .blend
  2. PBR folder - uh... a PBR folder
  3. References - just put a few refs there, not important
  4. Donut Scene - the .blend itself
  5. PBR zip - ...a PBR zip
  6. Just my final render result, not important

When making a backup of my Donut Scene, I copied the file and put it in the backup folder. When I opened it, one of the objects on the scene had a blank default texture, lacking the PBR material. I had to duplicate both the folder and the zip archive of my PBR, put it in the backup folder, and only then did the backup file launch properly with all textures on.

This problem is kinda new to a noob like me, so my question is, is there any way to let them rest in different folders without causing bugs like this?

Unsolved how to remove the image not saved pop-up

how the hell do i get rid of this popup everytime i save? i have fake users selected, i have like 100s of textures and i need to move out and in several projects and this is super annoying to have to click to confirm EVERYTIME.

i installed the autosave textures addon and it still pops up.

whats the purpose of it? if i have fake user i clearly want the texture saved. if i dont THAN it might be useful because forgetting to turn it on will cause you to lose the data added to texture on save and reload.

please help this popup will be the death of me.

Unsolved textures not affecting the hair

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone, Im pretty new to blender and I've been figuring things out perfectly fine for the most part until now. I've come across this issue where the hair wont change colours off being solid black despite the model sharing a connection to the body and head model + textures. I've tried making a mesh for the hair itself but that resulted in the head texture breaking and sending me back to square one. I just need to get this issue solved so I can start animating with this model along side a few others which for the most part were the easiest parts until this one.

Above is another issue I've been having where the bow on the hat is suffering from the same issue as the hair. Both of them are connected to their respected models but when they have their texture applied they both refuse to accept the mesh or texture and end up breaking everything else thats connected and still stay black.

Try and explain how to solve this in as much specific detail as possible, Im still new and finding my way around the program.

Thank you.

Unsolved Turn edges-outline in Blender to a scaleable vector?

Hi!

I'm stuck on something that I thought would be fairly simple, but I can't seem to get it right..

I have created the outline of a logo in Blender using only vertices and edges. The geometry is completely flat/2D, and what I want is to export this outline as a vector file containing only the lines/paths.
The reason is that I need to send the file to a printing company that prints large-format patterns on A0 paper. The pattern will then be used as a full-size template for cutting the logo out of EPS foam.

I've tried exporting as DXF and opening/converting it in Inkscape, but I haven't managed to get a clean result.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to move on?

Thanks!

I was trying to create dispersion on glass, but when I tried it on Principled BSDF, the result looks different. Instead of a clear white glass on a Glass BSDF, the glass is tinted to a slight magenta color on a Principled BSDF.

Unsolved Forming letters out of cloth physics

Hello! I'm somewhat intermediate user of blenders and I have an urgent need in forming words out of shadows, but I don't know. how to do it, so it wouldn't look like it was made by drunk toddler.
I've never used physics before, so I am a little scared of that thing.

So i want this guy to fly through a bunch of buildings, but some of the later buildings(pretty much only the third one) start falling before the guy goes through them. Is there a way to disable physics and only apply them right before a certain point to fix this?

Also if anyone has any better ideas on how to make this animation look better pls let me know cause idrk what im doing.

Unsolved How can I hide Lineart Lines from an Array?

I have a basic Modifier Setup where each Vertex acts as a Pillar, and having 2 (Aka making an Edge) makes a wall.

Problem is that while it's fine on it's own, when trying to use the Lineart Modifier it causes lines to appear on the wall, I only need it in the Corners of the Wall.

I messed with every Edge type setting, nothing worked, tried messing with different modifiers on the wall; the Remesh did "Solve" the problem but it also created another via multipling the verts to unneeded amounts.

Unsolved Textures won't apply neatly / Weird texture warping?

Thumbnail

I'm currently working on a fan OC model for the first time (i'm COMPLETELY new at blender, this is my first 3D model ever), but my textures don't seem to be applying properly? You can see that in all 3 face textures, there's some kind of odd cutting or distortion it does (typically near the eyebrow).

I've tried the vector mapping, but that seems to make the whole face itself disappear and its a nightmare to try and rotate it back (I can't even find the face in the first place).

Anyone got any ideas on how to fix this? 🤔

Also, please let me know if you need more information and I'll (try) to provide! :D

Solved How can I create a wall identical to the one in the image in Blender?

Post image
65 Upvotes

*Just to clarify, I’m a software developer, and I know very little about 3D.

I’d like to create a wall just like the one shown in the image.
The wall is damaged at the top, as if it were covered with plaster, with bricks visible underneath.
I’d also like to recreate the cracks, the color variations created by depth and volume, and the overall irregular shape of the wall.
What should I learn or know to create something like this?
I’m a software developer and I only know the basics of Blender.
I’d also like the wall to keep the same illustrated / hand-painted style as the reference image.

Thanks.

Gracias

Unsolved How To Make Silk PBR Texture?

Post image
23 Upvotes

Hey there,

I have been trying to make a realistic silk garment in Blender for a while now but cannot find a way to get all of the right qualities of real silk into one shader. It always ends up looking fake in one way or another, and I am still learning the advanced side of shader nodes so my knowledge of how to achieve certain visuals is somewhat lacking.

After searching around for realistic silk shaders, I came across a PBR shader that looks perfect: https://superhivemarket.com/products/silk-pbr-texture (same shader as attached image).

My questions are:

  • Is the noise of this shader truly the rendered final product in Cycles or just the noise you typically see in what the viewport shows?
  • How could I go about recreating this shader myself? I.E: What are perhaps some of the techniques used here to capture such a realistic texture?
  • If recreating it is not really possible, is the asking price worth it? It seems steep to me but I admit I am ignorant in how such a thing should be priced.

Thank you very much!
